Just thought I'd share my experience as someone who picked up blading in March. I'm 25, skateboarded since i was like 10. My first exposure to wheel sports though was through Jet Set Radio Future, probably one of the first video games I played. Seeing bladers in real life was so cool to me, but i always felt like they were rare. and where I'm from plus being a kid, skateboards were a lot easier to access. so i became a skateboarder, but always loved seeing people on rollerblades. This past year my gf decided she wanted to pick up some rec skates to learn. My immediate thought was "Yo. Jet Set Radio? might as well pick up aggressive skates and get good enough to switch between board and blade at the skatepark" I do hope that more people would pick it up as im usually the only blader at my local skateparks. would be nice to learn with people. and i hope being inspired by a video game isnt too cringe haha
How many people picked up boards due to THPS? MIllions. Don't be embarrassed that you became interested in blading because of JSRF. Cool story, hope you're having fun with the blades!
Yoo I'm in the same boat! About to turn 26 and first picked up a skateboard when I was like 11. I always loved watching aggressive inline skating on UA-cam but there were no bladers where I lived. Skateboards were easier to get cause of the price. But recently I just ordered my first pair of blades to start learning on! Bless up!
Imagine a video featuring Joey, Todd, Leon and Shaun wizarding through the streets of Canada filmed by Alex and edited in the classic MB style. Damn I’d be hyped for that! 🔥 Great Interview, guys!
I think 80% of the "new" skaters are old skaters coming back. The good thing about that is they're getting their kids interested in it and its getting more visibility on social media. I think it will continue to grow organically
Joey has always been able to put into words (and on film) so much that I've always felt about blading. I remember trying to hard to be part of the "look how serious we are!" era in the same way I tried hard to be other things I wasn't at that time. Got a lot of feelings listening to this, great interview fellas.
Great podcast! Enjoying Joey's history in rollerblading. I''d love to see Antony Pottier in this show someday. Another creative, inventive skater who experiments with a lot of different setups.
Returning skater here.. A hand injury recently forced me off the bmx. After not having skated in 10+ years, I busted out the dusty salomons. Now, 4 months later, I'm hooked. Skating evolved, matured and became more attractive.
Awesome podcast, Austin and Billy! Joey you're the man, I really enjoyed hearing you speak. MB8 is one of my top 3 edits, its got me trying to channel my inner mushroom. PS, can't wait to skate my new Mesmer skates, hope they ship soon, haha!
When you said "he has said his last words" I thought he was gonna be put in front of a firing squad or something. Great video with some fascinating insights. Oh and poor Billy trying to get involved.
On the air notes - there is an aspect for UA-cam called over the shoulder factor. Big airs definitely are cool to watch even if you are watching behind somebody.
Love the intro to SuckItAggressive when Joey climbs in and out of the shopping cart then top souls the bench with so much MEANING.. stomping the F out of the landing!!. What did that cart do Joey? LETS GO!!!
Riding flat you have a narrower window for errors on h block grinds, torqes, such that compared to anti it would have an illusion of appearing wrong, but it does require more effort than doing the same tourqe with anti setup if not impossible. Unless you wax your rockers and cover the ledge, unless it's weather beaten and basically impossible to slide.
Think that “serious” era of rollerblading was a necessary defining part of the sport. I have a strong admiration for people that are hungry to achieve or prove something, whether it be in sports or music.
Thanks for watching/listening! I believe you are somebody who enjoys hate watching our commentaries on the MB channel and there should hopefully be more coming soon for you🇨🇦

I started because of JSRF too! No shame

I'd like to see Andy Paz and Billy too, along with Michelle Steilen on quads.
@@MsJbs05 just dreaming but Nicola Torelli and Greg Mirzoyan in that group would be crazy 😃
We can always dream, mate. It's for free 😌
Merry Christmas!
Austin Paz, not Andy. Sorry.
Mb8 is my favourite video this year. Its so much fun and doesn’t take itself too serious
I completely forgot to say Kazu would be in the Wizard video too. Also Louis from EXPRESS.
Packham 4 Prez 👑
Harry Abel too
Would like to see rollerbalding in there too 😎
@@Daniel_Scarano another great choice
I'm skating because of meny reasons, but I'm staying humble and crediting everyone who deserves it because of Joey
2 hours 53 minutes? Of pure joy! 🤗

Haven’t skated in 10 years and it’s so good to be back. It definitely feels like it’s growing again!
Yes, I'm back too. And now I have a partner with my my daughter and it's a good thing take off the internet for a 4 hrs. Or more

Wow Joey was so serious coming in to the podcast! Hilarious
very interesting points. ive been thinking about hightech bionic knees, hips, etc for a while, i wish...
Great interview, always love the conversations with Joey & Todd!
Wool socks are the best for skating. Wicks moisture and no blisters. No stink either. Get some
love the story at 36 mins - so interesting to hear how and where it all started..

Billy McGarry and Joey O’Neill 😅👌🏻 1:31:10
I think that there is so much more to discover in the art of rolling is still so new and there is much to learn and establish as truth.
Thanks for still working 💪 Austin and Billy O'Neil
Love this podcast
I've skated anti since 96. Skating freestyle now. 4 wheels is an experience

Funny how you related those two sentences to each other. Almost like it’s not possible to be hungry or achieve anything without being ‘serious’ 😂
“We’re all groms for life” yeaaaaa I dunno about that. 🤣🤣
Dopest interview tho, love this dude. Most creative skater for sure.
I love how billy defended the anti rockers, Hero.
1:08:28 Billy looks suspicious after words about drug-testing
Love to you too Joey
Dominic Castelli is the right foot mizu Joey was talking about! Jaggers and Petty´s cousin that also surfs!
Get Dave Kollasch on the poscast
He's been asked, and respectfully declined (source: interview from Jan Welch with Billy O'Neill).
last words should been: "Go skating or something!"
We need wizard games of B.L.A.D.E!!!
That would be sooo hard to follow but cool tho
Interview Travis Rhodes.
Joey looks like he is full of suppressed aggression in this video.
My resting face is usually suppressed aggression especially during Winter.
