BIGGEST INFLUENCERS IN THE CSGO SCENE TRY TO UNDERSTAND A COI CHALLENGE (IMPOSSIBLE!!) (FAILED!)

You'd never see so many people making these braindead arguments if the team in question wasn't a prominent North American team. I'm so sick of NA being treated like the Make-A-Wish kid of CS and handled with kid gloves whenever it comes to stuff like this, because it's NA and they apparently deserve separate privileges.

That striker thread is depressingly representative of disagreements in the online era.

Being a fan of Party Astronauts I really wanted to see them play Carpe Diem because rivalry and fun haha, but you are right, this never should have been allowed to happen, when you brought up when people said "IBP would never throw" and that guy who wanted to control the scene it kicked me back to reality because I don't want Counter-Strike to be like this and I can see it happening with how little Valve care. I've seen people make fun of you that you were constantly retiring but I'm glad you make videos like these because you are right, if people like RyanAtDust2 and Striker lead the scene and fool people like me who thought "It's just fragadelphia and we all want to see PA play CD in an official" than I guess thats how it all spirals out of control. Thanks for kicking sense into me.

You can frame it like, if you remove the possibility of conflict of interest, that prevents people from questioning whether you deserve a victory. If you win a tournament legitimately where another team in your org also participated your opponents can still plausibly claim that you cheated. It's the same for employees of a company, you want to remove all possibility of liability, whether that means transferring departments so you don't have direct power over someone you have an out of work relationship with.

Thanks for explaining conflict of interest in your previous video. Up until now I've thought of it as a term specifically for two teams, owned by the same party, facing each other. If I've understood it correctly it simply refers to conflicting or contrasting interests of a single party, which in all honesty makes sense based only on the wording. I guess I just got stuck in thinking of it as a term and not words.

I work for a company for which I'm also a customer and I can't even use the company's software to look at my own private account even though I can do so with other people. That's how you avoid conflicts, by making sure you only do what your job requires you to do and avoiding personal connections.

    "Ye, but what if you do 2 * 100 * 5 / 25 / 100 / 5 * 25 + 2?"
"That's actually still 4, you just blew up the term and confused yourself. Just because you're confused by the thing you made up doesn't mean it's more nuanced than it actually is."

Is there any other topic in the space that not only breeds such a lack of understanding of the term itself, but then allows all the culprits to willingly expose themselves thinking they've gone big brain on the topic?
Most of those hot takers didn't surprise me.....

Strikers takes are so arbitrary it makes my brain hurt. He basically states that some orgs should be allowed to have COI “because they will not do something bad and/or act on it”. Amazing, not even considering the org is but one stakeholder in the whole thing. As said the theoretical probability alone is reason enough to mitigate. This is not a hard thing to grasp, it’s common sense. And typically, IF something would happen, it’s the same people that would cry wolf and quickly change their stance.

  • @invalidusername6809

Something people often miss in these debates is that when a potential conflict of interest exists it may lead to issues even if the people involved have no intention to act unfairly and may in fact not realise that they have. If you’re settling a dispute involving your partner you’re likely to subconsciously lean in favour of your partner without ever noticing you’re doing it and without coming in with any malicious intention and thereby give an unfair verdict despite trying to put aside your bias.

Stupid question but why would a bookie even put a potentially compromised game on their pages? Isn't the whole point of matchfixing to exploit the odds? Meaning the bookie can only lose? What's for them to gain having these matches on?

Sadly the trend of valve not caring about stuff like this going on in their own game's competitive scene continues. Unless player count drops dramatically or they stop making profit (directly/indirectly) from skins, valve will just never care about any of it since they probably adopt the mentality that "the best solution to most problems/controversies is to ignore it until it dies down". I'm not too sure if they do this with their other games but with csgo it certainly seems like the case so far
