As an Aussie, the Milat name still strikes fear especially as his nephew followed in his uncle’s murderous footsteps. Thank you Chris for covering this story and showing your usual compassion and respect for the victims of their families.
As a country that relies a lot on tourism & a people that love to welcome overseas visitors, this was such a horrifying & sad time for us. The Peter Falconio case in 2001, was also another case that I think would have made a few young people very cautious about coming here as backpackers too. It's heartbreaking to think of someone coming to your country, expecting to have a fantastic time, & then one of your own citizens being the reason they don't leave alive.
I was living in Wollongong not that far from Belangalo Forest when Ivan Milat was committing his heinous crimes. Hitch-hiking had been an easy way to get around before that, I had done it many times before with my friends but after Milat nobody I knew ever hitch-hiked again. Thanks for another great True Crime Recap, I always click straight on the notification for a new Crime to hear about from the two nicest people on UA-cam. Take care and have a happy Easter 🐣 😊 🇦🇺

@@TheOriginalFoxtrotCharlie hi from the middle of nowhere NSW. I lived in Canberra in the 80s and loved it! The only reason we left was my Dad died and as an only child I thought my Mum needed me in Wollongong, I was very wrong. My only regret in my life is leaving Canberra. Have a lovely Easter and enjoy Canberra's many charms. BTW we lived in Holt. It's awesome to meet another crazy cat lady like me, I've got over 30 cats and kittens and I love them all dearly even though they drive me bonkers quite often 😆 😻😽😺😸

I’m 34 and have lived in Australia my whole life, and really cant see myself ever backpacking alone, let alone in another country! So weird that young people do that alone! Eek!
My neighbour and another friend had an encounter with Milat. My neighbour was walking with his wife at the Belango state forest. Out of nowhere appears a dude following them. He told his wife to hurry up and just in time a bus load of tourists existed. The man disappeared. Russell also found it odd that in the carpark, it was only his car and the boss. The second one was hitching a ride outside of Sydney, Camden area. He caught a ride with this fellow. He stated clearly that he phoned a friend just before he left and when to roughly expect him at his next destination. He felt very uncomfortable around this man's presence and requested to be dropped off sooner. Reluctantly, the man did. Both parties realised whom it was when on the news his truck appeared (hitchiker recognised this truck) and my neighbour recognised his face. Both parties felt fortunate to still be Earthside. It rattled the hitchiker for years afterwards. He said he thinks the backpackers made the mistake of being too trusting, not having anyone expect them, so hence when they go missing it took awhile to get reported. I'm certain Ivan is responsible for more disappearances given that I know of two parties that came across him. Russell's story is pretty eerie, sent chills down my spine.

The Wolf Creek killer, if anybody seen the movie Wolf Creek (2005) you’ll understand what I’m talking about because the movie is base on Ivan Milat crimes.
This reminds me of the serial killer Charles Sobhraj - comely, charismatic and charming but a cold-blooded criminal without conscience. He murdered many backpackers and tourists in Southeast Asia and India. His crime sprees took place in Thailand, Nepal, India, Malaysia, France, Afghanistan, Turkey and Greece, at least in what is known about him. He served jail time and is apparently alive and well today and believed to be in France, where he was deported to after his release from jail in 2022.

Please do a recap of the case involving Invan Milats' nephew.
He said all there was to say really in this video. There wasn't much else to it
So not only are the snakes, crocodiles, and other animals aren't bad enough now you have to be concerned with this crazy man. Excellent presentation.
Thankfully you've only got to worry about the wildlife now .. he's long gone. Thank God.
@@TheOriginalFoxtrotCharlie I have always wanted to visit the land down under.
@@davidneidel436 You should!! It's a lovely place. Spring 🌼🌱🌸 is probably the best time to come. Summer gets far too hot these days
@@TheOriginalFoxtrotCharlie Do you live there? When I was in Vietnam, I saved time up and was going to put in for Rest and Recuperation in Australia but when I submitted my paperwork it was turned down because they US military just closed it as a site to visit. So went 31.5 months I served to try to go. I still may go some time. After all, I am still working. Thanks for your response.
@@davidneidel436 I do live here in Australia 🇦🇺 Born and bred Aussie 😊 Sorry your attempt to come here before didn't work out. Hopefully one day you can make it. You'll obviously have to try Vegemite when you get here 😂 Yum!
He even cut one of his fingers off with a plastic knife and sent it to the magistrate

Hitchhiking used to be a way of life in the States. It is no longer safe and hasn't been for some time.

The Wolf Creek killer, if anybody seen the movie Wolf Creek (2005) you’ll understand what I’m talking about because the movie is base on Ivan Milat crimes.
PLEASE cover Natalie Holloway
We have done that one....Heres a link:

I am assuming this guy was used as an inspiration for the Australian horror movie "wolf creek"?!
Yeah 😱😱😱 that movie scared the crap out of me
Can you do the john hill murder case ? Blood and money in Texas. Thanks
Why at first did I think he said Paul Bunyan🤣
Wasn't the movie Wolf Creek loosely based on the Ivan Milat case?
Loosely yes...
@@TrueCrimeRecaps Thanks 😊👍
Absolutely yes
Yikes!!
Ruined tourism in Australia for a while but this GREAT COUNTRY is back on track NOW and marching on
Very disturbing recap!
If it wasn’t for that one person getting away he wouldn’t have been caught
Please cover Christian Andreacchio 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
Will do! Thanks Ash & Emi!
@@TrueCrimeRecaps thank you! 🥺
Did he mean to say, “Make hot air cold and cold air hot,” or was he trying to make a joke?
Sadly this could've happened to anyone
Here's a comment is to help keep the algorithm monster fed.
It feeds on comments, replies and likes to both.

You're amazing Shirleeknott!
@@TrueCrimeRecaps surely not! you guys are!
just a heads up, yard work season is almost here and have put dibs on a bernese mountain pup not yet born so won't be around much till the snow flys again.
Every time he says Paul Onions, I hear Paul Bunyan
Check out "The Boy in a Box" murdered in Philadelphia, PA USA in the 50's
Has anyone ever suggested Ronald Fisher from Rhode Island? No murder involved but it’s a crazy story and he is still missing and wanted.
didn't they make a movie about this guy?
The guy in the movie Wolf Creek is meant to be loosely based on him apparently
❤❤❤
Terrifying.
