Hi Olexa! We're the developer of Grow the Seed. Thanks for taking the time to explore our demo on Steam. Hope you enjoyed it, and we look forward to having you try it once more when the full release is launched. Your coverage means a lot to us!
You got some cool idea game there sir/ma'am great job! I have an idea about the spawn food thingy because its so broken lmao. please make it that it requires a charge on the amount of pest that has been killed for it to be balanced and kinda realistic since its some sort of fertilizer from the decayed matyer and also add some thorns trait and even better, a sac feature like those in the African plants who bribe the ants for their delicious sap to protect them, it would be educational if its kinda grounded in reality. Godspeed on this game!
Note to Dev: 0 cost draw 1 card does nothing, it lets you replace itself which is the same as not having the card. If the goal is a free draw 1 more card this hand it needs to be a draw 2 cards; first card replaces the draw card and the second is the bonus card. You probably want 1 more draw on all your draw cards to replace the draw card.
@@Spikeba11What it does is keep your deck consistent. Let's say you get 2 options you don't like and this, you take this so you technically keeping only cards you really want in your deck.
@@OlexaYT they put in decent work, but this demo suffers from an unbalanced difficulty curve. I was silently screaming the whole time in the beginning. Brother was not paying attention to food and even when the realization that he was probably going to lose if he kept playing the way he did he continued... 😭😭
@@wroughtwithrat well, they do need those nutrients, same as we need vitamins, but the majority of the mass in plants comes from the photosyntheses process, i.e. the CO2 in the air.

This game looks to be inspired by Mito, a free itch game with similar premise. However, it's much more advanced in terms of strategy an actual simulation, but lacks in graphics. You can develop your own singular cells with different functions and create working cellular system to automate resource transfer.
Thats extreeemely counter intuitive. My impression of this game continues to be kinda bleh, as you seem to be drowned in cards of dubious value with zero way to thin your deck in sight, however.
There was an old flash game that was kinda like the base concept of this game. I can't remember the name, but basically you had to grow a plant either in the wild or in a farm, and regulate your energy and growth to maximize your chances of either the farmer choosing to plant you again next year, or spreading enough fruits in the wild to grow more offspring for the next year. It was one of my favorite old games and I'm glad it's spirit lived on in newer games like this
I remember I've played a flash game just like this on Kongregate years ago, which you can choose to be wild plants or farmed crops. Forgot its name though.
I played an educational game like this but it was all real time click on the bees click on worms grow the flower, dead simple. It's nice to see the idea spring into a proper game, even if it's not for me.
I'm missing a fighting farming game and a strategy farming game, maybe a music farming game? Since it seems we are doing all genres mixed with farming (PD: I love it)
Rhythm fighting farming rogue like game Fuck it Mix it all You have to walk, plant, punch, collect on the beat, and the plants and fruits you grow are weapons to fight better and the drops of the monsters and pests give you more seeds and resources (so it's also a resource management game) You also get unique items on the end of certain checkpoints that change the pace of the beat, so you could get more beats to do more, or you could slow down your beats to get a huge increase in power, or even a double edged sword where if you keep your beat you get super powerful but losing it makes you extremely weak
On the first run, there's food under the ground. You grew a straight root in to nothing instead of food right before you lost... Because you ran out of food.
It's an interesting idea, but several problems. So little explanation, like what the stuff underground means. It's not too hard to figure it out, but it would be helpful to know stuff like how much water you absorb, the difference between water and the water with dirt, how much health each plant parts have during the invasions. Then there's the pest defense part. It's buggy and very one sided from my experience. Birds sometimes fall to the ground when sprayed and get stunned, sometimes they teleport. But the worms just have a massive health pool and chow through everything unless you have scarabs down there. It's crazy. The cards don't feel all that balanced, and you can be pretty screwed by the opening hand. And my god was the volume so loud for me, with the option to adjust it not working well enough to save my ears, had to manually turn it down with sound manager outside the game. But at least the demo is free.
Good concept, but it needs to be refined more. The "defense" doesn't do anything. Also, while deck builders require luck, this is insane. You get one specific card, and then you win, if you don't get that one card, you might as well just restart.
I suspect things will change as the game progresses. Remember: this game is in development and comments like yours are super important to improving it.
Most deckbuilders also give you stuff like rerolls or ways to thin your deck and get rid of useless cards. This game seemingly DROWNS you in nearly useless cards with zero recourse or way to get rid of unwanted cards that i can see so far. I can't say i approve of it in my impressions so far.
🤦♀️ Why did you put a root in water, when you need food? Here's a good tip, grow 1 stem, decorate it, then grow another stem. But don't do more than 3 stems until you have over 20+ of each resource. You keep growing too big before creating a steady supply of food/water/sunlight. I imagine eventually you can ban cards or find more food cards to increase your odds of having useful things to do during your turn, then you can grow as big as you want. If you aren't producing, or decorating, I would just skip turn.
20 minutes in the video. Okay, okay, kind hard to a farming game, but it's reasonable 40 minutes in the video, laughing my ass off because the game became a fucking hardcore tower defense against't whole swarm of worms and murder of crows
its interesting how a misconception of a tree root system is depicted in books, that people make games like this.... making more people have even more misconceptions about the said theme.
Starts with: That is how trees work! Middle: How do I get food without Photosynthesis?! Me: Wait... You just said you know how it works, but then you just fail at the basics of plants? XD (maybe the roots can absorb the minerals from the ground, like plants do? ;) ) End game: ROOTS SOLVES EVERYTHING! Me: Yeah... They do! XD
Olexa constantly making stupid decisions and then complaining when his own actions bite him in the ass is so infuriating. this game has a lot of cool potential so i’m still glad Olexa made the vid
This game seems so unbalanced. Like there seems to only be one actually good strategy since fertile ground costs the same as both sun absorb and photosynthesize and only takes one card rather than 2 it is significantly more effective to use that for food than what should be the primary expected method of food production. Also the birds attacking above ground pretty much forces you to take caterpillar or wasp cards since that’s the only way to get more defence than the weak af spray bottle. Then there’s the miracles that just permanently give you more mana which also seem almost entirely necessary in order to grow enough to win. Also fruits seem relatively weak since they accomplish a similar effect to fertile ground but take multiple cards over multiple rounds which is the same problem as photosynthesize, and in the demo there doesn’t appear to be any benefit to harvesting fruits either so having that card even exist in the game further unbalances it. Balance isn’t super necessary if their goal is to just be funny but it looks like they want to make a serious game rather than a meme, so I hope they rebalance it as it progresses because it looks like it could be interesting if properly balanced.
