    Thanks for the breakdown! I’m looking for a daily driver to compliment my powder ski (Rustler 11) that I love. Rustler 10 would be the obvious choice, but from this reading, seems like they aren’t all that similar due to the different constructions and such. Looked into the MB 99ti, Enforcer 104 Free, and DPS Koala 103 but still not quite sure. Love the light but sturdy nature of the Rustler and would love to carry that through for days spent in the trees searching for remaining powder stashes. Tried the m free but didn’t find the tail supportive enough. But also worried the Enforcer would be too sluggish.

      People certainly have both the 11 and the 10, so it's not outlandish, mainly because it's a predictable feel. The Enforcer is very sturdy, and while you do have to work a bit harder to get the energy, I would say similar things about both the K2 and the DPS on your list. If you're looking for a bit lighter of a ski in the ~100 mm range, I'd check out the Armada Declivity 102 or the Head Kore 99.

    I'm looking for a do-it-all ski, and I'm stuck between the Rustler 10, the Bent 100, and the ARV 100. I ski an equal amount of groomers and soft snow tree runs out west and am looking to venture into the park this season. Which would you recommend for an advanced level skier? I really like a playful and maneuverable ski, and I would prioritize that over high speed stability.
    Loving the review dump!

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  9 місяців тому +3

      I think you're in a good spot, with three skis that are different enough. The Rustler is on one end, with more priority in softer snow, high-performance, and greater stability at speed. The Bent is on the other, being lighter, more floaty, and more maneuverable. Some park stuff here, but not a ton. The ARV 100 slips right in the middle--great energy, good freestyle performance, and very maneuverable. I think the new 100 is a great option for what you're looking to do.

    I’m looking for a slightly wider ski to alternate with my Ripstick 96 Blacks. The easy solution would be to just pick up a pair of the Rip 106 Blacks. For sake of variety, I would rather go with a different maker. Kudos to Blizzard for replacing the blue top sheet on the 2023 in favor of the black/orange top sheet on the 2024. I’m 6’3” 175lbs and my sweet spot for length is 188-189cm. The Rustler 10 is definitely “over-kill” for skiing groomers at my home hill, Afton Alps, here in Minnesota. I want it for trips to the PNW to ski at Timberline or Mt Bachelor. I’m also considering the Black Crows Atris & Salomon QST 106. Am I on the right track with the Rustler 10’s? Keep up the good work on these reviews. I’m always amazed how the cameraman is able to keep up with the tester… especially in a bump field or in the trees.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  8 місяців тому +1

      Thanks!
      Yes, the 106 is the easy answer. Keep in mind that the new Rustler 10 is 102 mm underfoot, so going from a 96 to a 102 isn't a huge leap. Sure, there's more rocker and a more playful multi-directional personality in the Rustler, but overall, those skis fit pretty similar applications. If you move up to the QST 106, you're getting quite a bit more flotation and soft snow benefits. The Atris is a nice mix of the two in that it fits in the middle when it comes to width, and has more of the build of the QST versus the metallic laminates of the Rustler. Basically, it depends if you're looking for more difference or more similar, and how much soft snow acumen you wish to incorporate.

      Thanks for the feedback. I have also considered a number of other options in this All Mountain category. Fischer Ranger 108, Icelantic Nomad 105, Nordica Enforcer 110 Free, etc. Seems like they jump from 185cm to 191cm or 192cm. No options for 187-189. I know I could make a 192cm work for me, but when you ski more than 80 visits a season, that takes a toll. Hope to be on the slopes again in 5 weeks if it’s cold enough to fire the canons. I came up short by 136K to enter the Million Vert Club last season @ Afton Alps.

    Currently ski a Blizzard Brahma in 166, but want something more versatile now that I have relocated out West. I am 5' 7" and 160 lbs. The 2 sheets of metal and 88 underfoot aren't ideal for my preferred terrain of bumps and back bowls. I favor maneuverability and playfulness, but would still like some stability on the occasional hard pack. For the Rustler 10, would you size up to 174, or should I stay at 168 if I am primarily seeking out bumps?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  9 місяців тому

      I'd go 168. The Rustler is still pretty stable with its metal, so there's no real need to upsize to access performance, especially if you still have a focus on bumps or more technical terrain.

    Hi! I ski in the alps and am looking for a freeride/off-piste ski for the days I am staying reasonably close to a lift (and not going for a light touring setup). It would be used searching for powder, but will proabably end up spending half the time on a mix of crud, groomers, heavy snow and occasional icy couloirs. When there is powder, it will probably not be more than knee deep. Am considering this, the Salomon QST 106 or the BC Atris. Are these even good options for my needs? And would the Rustler make sense for me as a more intermediate skier? (I rarely venture into steeper terrain than 40 degrees and tend to slow down a fair bit when it gets really rough.)

    • @SkiEssentials

      I'd lean to the easier turning and driftier Atris for your application. Great in softer snow but still has a higher performance capability.

    Looking for a ski to replace my J Vacations for next year. Considering these and the QST 106, amongst others. I do one trip out west per season. Primarily ski Cannon/Jay/Sugarloaf. Note that I also have the Kendo’s as my dedicated ice/groomer ski. Want something more stable and less chattery than the Vacations as they are super soft. Thanks

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  3 місяці тому

      The metal of the Rustler 10 definitely does a good job at smoothing out bumps and inconsistencies. I do like the slightly heftier feel of the Salomon, though, but if you're looking for a bit more pivoty and smeary characteristics, I'd say the Rustler is the top option here.

  • @Nullerjoe

    Super review!
    How would you compare it to the lighter ski, Atomic Backland 107.
    Which would perform better in moderate angle (40 degree) faces with powder.
    And how close are the backland performance on firm snow to the Rustler 10?
    This is in the context of a ski only used for touring in Europe (the weight difference of 200g is not a problem for me up hill)

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  5 місяців тому

      I kind of like the Backland in more technical terrain and spaces. The flat tail allows it to grip quite firm to the steeper zones. The Rustler will hold up at higher speeds in more chunky snow, but that's really the only advantage here.

    Hey Guys - I’m curious what your thoughts are between the new Rustler 10 and the Declivity 102ti? I was able to demo both of them recently, and really liked them both, but there was only one short run open and the snow wasn’t great so I was only able to gather limited information. A little compare and contrast would be awesome. I live in Colorado, strong advanced skier, probably something like 60/40 on off piste, like to ski back bowls, trees, etc when I’m not ripping groomers with my family. Need something relatively stable, somewhat playful, good in funky snow, and lighter and a little easier than Enforcers, which I currently have. Thanks!!!

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  7 місяців тому +1

      I'd give the off-piste nod to the Rustler with greater rocker and increased splay in both tips and tails. Declivity is such a strong turning ski that it's tough to dismiss, especially if you're still skiing more on-trail. The Rustler is more versatile and has better flotation, so that'll line up better with what you're looking to do, especially with family.

    Very nice review! Would you compare it to the ripstick 106 and to maverick 100 in a new video?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  9 місяців тому +1

      Within our comparison series, the Rustler and the Maverick will end up on the same wall while the Ripstick fits better into the mid-100 freeride range. That said, the Rustler 10 is more bent and bowed than either the Maverick or the Ripstick, so the overall shape of the Rustler leans a bit more freeride.

  • @TigerNash21

    With the new constructions of the Rustler line, how would you compare the Rustler 10 to the Black Crows Justis? It seems in previous years, the Rustler was consider more accessible at slower speeds and more playful while the Justis was stiffer and a better carver. But now with the new constructions, these 2 skis seem to be extremely similar. Maybe the Rustler 10's tail is still not as stiff as the Justis (?) so easier to break the tails loose but not as strong of a carver as the Justis still?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  7 місяців тому

      Constructions do appear similar but that's kind of where it ends. The Rustler has a lot more tip splay than the Justis, so it doesn't hook into the turn nearly as precisely or enthusiastically as the Justis. Overall, the Rustler is more flexible and lighter so it will do a nice job being playful in softer snow, but on firm snow and in a carved turn, the Justis is a very special ski.

    Ive been skiing mantras for some time but as I get older I’m finding them a little less manageable off piste in bumps and 8-10” of unpredictable snow. (They’re still awesome on groomers for me). So anyway I’m thinking of getting something a little more playful. I’ve been looking at the volkl blaze. How would that compare to these rustlers?
    My goal is something that is all mountain but playful and fun, little slower speeds that I might also be able to use touring. I’ll keep my mantras for groom days, and I do have powder skis for those rare deep days.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  6 місяців тому +1

      Blaze is considerably lighter and more mobile while the Rustler is going to feel more substantial and smooth, especially through rough, cruddy, and choppy terrain. In fresh and un-broken snow, I'd rather ski the lighter blaze, but for anything that's firmer or if you're looking for a cleaner carve, the Rustler has more upside.

    Hustler 10 or Rustler 10 for a 70/30 touring/resort ski? Thinking of putting kingpin bindings on as a ski for the east coast scene with some solid downhill capabilities and moderate uphill performance.
    I am an advanced/expert skier with Bonafide 97’s as my current resort driver looking to add to that with some touring capabilities. Fast turns, skiing hard through the trees with some small cliffs/drops.

    • @SkiEssentials

      Tough to argue against the Rustler for this application. The blend of "solid" downhill capabilities and "moderate" uphill performance lean more to the Rustler side of the spectrum.

    I'm trying to decide between the R9 and R10. I demo'd a Rustler 9 last week in poor (icy) conditions and I was blown away by how fun and easy it is to ski - turned a crappy day into an awesome one. How's the powder performance? I live in BC, advanced skier, and I'm looking for an all rounder. I'd say I ski 50/50 on/off piste.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  6 місяців тому

      I'd say the powder performance of the 9 is decent. There's a lot of tip splay, so it rises up out of the snow very effectively. At 96 mm underfoot, it's got some width, too. If you're looking for a 50/50 ski, you're in the right zone for sure, especially with the 9. The 10 tips the scale more to 70/30 in favor of soft snow and off-trail activities.

    Currently choosing between this and faction dancer 2. I’m 6’2 215lbs and intermediate to advanced. I enjoy doing bowls, some trees, and groomers in between. I currently have a pair of bent chetler 120s but looking for more of a daily driver that has play while maintaining stability. Any input between the two?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  7 місяців тому

      The main difference is the energy. Dancer has more of it since it has more camber--it's a very poppy and snappy ski and we've had testers just enamored with the rebound and feedback. Rustler is great, and a smoother overall floater in softer snow, but it's just not quite as lively or engaging as the Dancer. If you're looking for something that has more life to it, I'd go Dancer, but for more power and a smoother feel, the Rustler is a fantastic option.

    I was quite surprised that my pair weighed in at 1865 & 1878 grams @ 180cms. That's a fair bit lighter than the info I had, maybe I should put a heavy binding on to help with dampness?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  9 місяців тому

      I don't think that's going to help all that much, the skis are still pretty damp due to the longer metal in the ski, especially when compared to the previous model that had the metal in the middle.

    I'm torn here. I'm a Colorado skier, male, 5'9 155lbs. I want a ski for off piste, glades, bowls on days in between snowfall where trails are rutted, lines are more packed down.
    I've been told Nordica Enforcer 94 is probably what I'm looking for, but I'm also considering the Umleashed 98 and Rustler 9 or 10 for more playfulness and since I'm more light weight.
    Thoughts?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  8 місяців тому +1

      The Enforcer will certainly take a more direct path down the fall line as it's heavier, stiffer, and more directional than the other skis on your list. For your off-piste application, I'd say the Rustlers make more sense, and if you're looking to add in versatility and playfulness, the 9 is more nimble and energetic than the 10. The 10 is a better choice if you're more aggressive in softer snow, but it's more of a handful than the 9 in trees and bumps. Unleashed is great, but has more of a groomer mentality.

I’d like skis lighter and more playfull than my k2 mind 108ti but don’t want to loose all the stability, so don’t know if the hustle is a good choice ? What do you think of it ? We had a lot of fun on the Hustle, and while it does lose a bit of composure on steeper and firmer trails, it's not too bad for how light it is. The Rustler definitely has more stability and dampness, but if you're looking for something more different than the K2, I'd go Hustle in the 188.

      I would think the 174 is a better option overall unless you feel you prefer slightly longer skis. I don't think the mount point will make much of a difference, and since the mount point is centered on the underfoot metal plate, we generally feel the ski should be mounted on the line.

      The Rustler is more of a known quantity, so if you know you like your 9, then the 10 isn't a far cry, even with the new build. How would you compare them with the Line optic blade 104 in term of versatility?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  9 місяців тому

      That's a good comparison. We generally feel that the Rustler is a bit more consistent from tip to tail, and that gives it an edge when it comes to on-trail performance while the more flexible and rockered tips and tails of the Line make it a slightly better floater that's more manageable in the trees and other technical zones. Since the metal of the Rustler is along the edges, it's slightly more competent and comfortable when it comes to high speeds and more direct fall-line skiing. Versatility kind of depends on what you're looking for--I'd say the Line has more of a range in terms of being floatier than the Rustler, while also biting pretty firmly on-trail, but only in the center of the ski. That said, the Rustler feels more composed overall.

      Justis operates at a higher level in a carved turn, but the Rustler is more compliant when it comes to crud and chop. I'd rather ski the Rustler in variable conditions and terrain, but for groomer crushing, the Justis turns way better than the Rustler and most other skis at that width range.

      @SkiEssentials  7 місяців тому

      The Enforcer still feels like a denser overall ski, but that does equate to stability and power, so it kind of depends on what you're looking to do overall. There's a broader range of application in the Rustler, and more skiers will find more success here. It's slightly more forgiving than the Enforcer 104, so it's more likeable in soft snow, crud, and chop.

      I think the splay in the tips and tails is one of the biggest differences. In the Rustler, there's a lot of splay. The line is flatter overall from a rocker height perspective, and this makes it a bit smoother and more stable in longer turns and at higher speeds. The Rustler is more poppy as a floater in deeper and softer snow.

    Hi Jeff!
    How would you say this rustler is compare to the Ranger 102?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  4 місяці тому +1

      Despite the Rustler's relatively light weight, the metal frame works better to stabilize the ski. Ranger is a bit floatier and easier start a turn, but the Rustler pivots very easily in tighter spaces, especially for how sturdy it is when you want to open it up. I haven't really found the same stability in the Ranger at higher speeds and in a carved turn.

      I personally prefer the turning capabilities and consistency of the Unleashed 108. The Rustler is lovely, but the Nordica simply outperforms it in all phases.

    Hey, which pair will be more versatile for an aggressive skier who loves speed and want playfull ski this one or maybe playmaker/ripstick or head core 93 ?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  4 місяці тому

      The Rustler is likely the best option here for aggressive and fast skiing. The Kore can stand up, but the metal of the Rustler keeps it more damp. The Elan's fall lighter on the spectrum, so for aggressive skiing they're not quite as powerful.

    • @SkiEssentials

      Not particularly thick. If it was on the thick side, the metal would make it pretty rough. The Enforcer feels more composed in a high-performance setting than the Rustler, but it's pretty close.

    Is this a lot harder to ski off piste and in tight spots compared to qst 98?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  9 місяців тому

      I wouldn't say it's a whole lot harder. The shorter radius of the QST does make it easier to get into and out of turns in technical spots, but the metal of the Rustler gives it more confidence and stability. In softer snow, the QST is considerably easier and more maneuverable while in cut up crud, chop, windblown, and firmer snow, the Rustler has better grip and will allow for more predictable turn shapes and styles.

    what would say the differences between the russler 9 and 10 what type of skier should use 9 what type 10

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  9 місяців тому +1

      They type of skier is roughly the same as the skis have the same build. The application is a bit different, though. Rustler 10 is happier in softer snow, deeper snow, and in longer/straighter turns. The Rustler 9 is more versatile for all-mountain conditions and terrain and makes some great short to medium turns. Both are great for advanced and expert all-mountain skiers who are on the aggressive side of the spectrum, and that's slightly more true with the Rustler 10.

    How does this ski compare to the Dynastar M free 99?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  8 місяців тому

      The M-Free 99 is a lot more flexible and freestyle-focused while the Rustler has more power and stability in adverse snow conditions and terrain. If you're looking to spend most of your time in softer snow and at higher speeds in a more aggressive format, the Rustler is amazing. For more nimble and agile skiing, with creativity at the forefront, the M-Free is about as clean a ski as we get.

    I Mostly sky groomers, some tree runs.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  7 місяців тому +1

      The Rustler 9 is a slightly better option with a narrower waist and wider metal in the forebody and through the tail. This opens up groomer performance and keeps it cool in the trees. The 10 is heavier and slightly more lumbering rather than the more energetic and engaging Rustler 9.

    How does this ski compare to the Dynastar 90 Mpro

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  8 місяців тому +1

      it's a lot closer to the M-Pro 99 than the 90 due to the width. In that comparison, the tail of the Dynastar is a lot more responsive and energetic. M-Pro feels like a more traditional ski in that it has a longer turn shape and style as well as providing classic tip to tail edge feel. The rocker in the Rustler keeps it more in the modern freeride category versus the M-Pro which still falls mainly in the all-mountain realm with stronger on-trail performance.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  28 днів тому +1

      In our demo fleet over the past season we've seen normal chipping and peeling, but not much in the way of total topsheet delamination. Certainly not considerably more than other popular skis. Since the Rustlers get used a lot, they may appear more susceptible than a less popular ski that doesn't go out quite as much.

    How about compared to an Enforcer 104 Free?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  6 місяців тому +1

      It's a good comparison--one which we talk about a lot, especially if you're in the 186 length and they pretty closely match sidecut measurements. Enforcer still takes the cake when it comes to pure stability, power, and strength. It also has a bit lower of a profile height, especially in terms of tip and tail splay, so that adds to the smoothness of the Enforcer. You do pay for it a bit when it comes to stiffness and weight, so if you're looking for that top-end of performance, it does come at a cost. This puts the Rustler into the more accessible and friendly side of the spectrum, so if you're not full-out charging all the time, the Rustler is more fun and playful.
