Thanks for putting this out..for free. Loved seeing the way Mark thinks about polarity/phase of the drums. The band is awesome as well. Just picked up some of their music. Looking forward to the next videos.
I love to see when these kinds of things use Chicago studios. I tend to use my home studio for most of my work but when my clients want to use a commercial studio, the crc is one of the three that I use
Great series!! Can't wait to see the rest of them. Everyone involved is top notch. I've known Marc a long time and he is brilliant engineer who goes to great lengths for tone and at the same time, he's entirely pragmatic about gear. This demonstrates something else that's important in tracking and mixing- Fantastic musicians, performances and ARRANGEMENT. The War on Peace guys are all badasses! Keep it up dudes!
Great video, find the performance direction really interesting on this... rather than looking at manipulating vowel sounds and rising the soft palette, he asks the singer to raise eyebrows. I understand what he is getting at but perhaps the sense of a more open mouth sound by raising the soft palette would be useful to access the upper register. Difficult though to get across.. might try this.....We all are all always learning. Am a big fan of stacked compressors each contributing some control and density. Great video, thanks!!
Hi Angelo, I believe the 251 wasn't used for the tracking part of the drum session. As I wanted to showcase the Towsend Labs mics on the OH of the drums.
those drums!!! everything sounds great!

One of the coolest videos to watch. Loved the commentary/explanation. Nice work everyone.

Loving pretty much everything about this video! Can't wait for Part II :)

Great stuff, thanks for putting this together. Looking forward to part II
Absolutely brilliant. This just confirms that with a full Apollo system you can just do anything.
Yeah, tens of thousands sat in the racks not even switched on!
Thanks for this. Looking forward to P3 the mastering.
All I can say is this video inspired me to another level, so amazing to watch Geniuses work with Elite equipment
Must be nice to be able to use a vintage 47 for a 'trash mic'... lol. Seriously. Great video! You guys rock!
haha, just thought the same!
Awesome video.. more of that, plz!
Nice video! WTH is that moving in bkg in 25:24???
This is THE best tutorial video I've seen on tracking - even engineering in general! Thank you! :)
Patiently waiting for the other episodes
Amazing!
Still did a harmony on the background :D Love the video!
What was the contraption that was used on the snare?

What's that 251(?) doing behind the kit? Also, it would be awesome if these multitracks become available for download!

What mic on the kick?
Hi Petitehand, The mic used on the session was a vintage D12
Hey Marc, seen you record with a pretty hot signal. Don't you go for a -18db recording?
Great Thx!
No amp plugin for the GTR part?
Flaw Taaarm!
where the hell is part 2 its been a week already :D
Hey Ralph, should be dropping by the end of the week. Thanks!
exelente
+1000 for using OBS :]
A silly question. What’s the sample rate of the session?
I thought the same, looking at the Apollo 8P in the last frames, it shows it's at 44.1kHz... I thought they'd at least do 48?
Where’s part 2
Part Two is coming soon! Stay Tuned!
Cool runnings :D
Shuffle mode on! Careful dude...
Sounds good and everything but it looks like he EQed some of the tracks without actually turning the EQ button on (toms) lol
Is the 47 trash mic in figure 8 or cardioid?
Hi Noah, The 47 was in cardioid.
Does the dog have shoes?
Road to vinyl but tracking at 44.1khz lol
TRACKING KIND OF HOT AINTCHA?
