"You can't take breaks in the shaft." - Dr. Mike Israetel All of this info is super helpful as I'm in the middle of maintenance as I type this! Thanks for the awesome interview!
Your intro has improved in the sense that the volume contrast between the intro and the actual interview has leveled off a bit. Your old intro (the one with the loud sound of the chromosomes replicating) was super loud in comparison to the interviews. Thanks for all that you do!
I didn't even notice the scratching until you mentioned it. Btw, nobody cares about the quality of the sound. The content is what we care about and your content is superb so don't worry about sound quality.
Awesome podcast, loved it, actualy going from 16/17% to contest ready Ahah , ↑ been doing 5 weeks the same crap, wasn't seeing anything, right now dropped 2 kgs over 3 days.
I'm at a crossroads with this fat loss thing, I'm 50 pounds overweight, I have about a year of training with weights and as a consequence I have made some muscle and strength gains in the gym; sometimes I do a little cardio during the week, but I'm just sick tired of being fat. The matter is: I don't know if I should drop the weights and focus on really intense ;ong cardio sessions in order to shed these pounds quickly, take a diet break and then lift again to improve my aesthetics or keep weight lifting and lower my calories dramatically. I have been getting better at dieting and now I think that I've got the hang of calories and macros completely, currently just maintaining my actual weight. I'm 5'7", 214 pounds 27 years old male; trying to get the more aesthetic kinda bodybuilder lean physique, I don't take hard PED's only creatine (nothing against them, but they're so expensive and I would not know how to do them properly without really messing my system). If the english is not very good, my aplogies, not a native speaker.
Keep resistance training and eating at a slight deficit. It'll take time, maybe a year of consistency but do NOT stop training weights and replace with cardio. That is the worst option for the physique you want. Stay the course. Its a long journey. Be patient and the results will come.
Dropping the weight training is a horrible idea, weight training will increase fat loss and prevent muscle loss. If you don't lift weights in a calorie deficit, you just lose muscle
18:15 - 18:30 One important question pls: What to do between these mastercycles? Kind of a one week deload with isocaloric eating? Isn't a drop in volume otherwise unfavourable during a cut? Please help!! 😊
So usually a mesocycle* lasts only one week. Mike usually does a 4 to 1 paradigm, which means 4 weeks of accumulating volume, and one week a deload. The first week you start out with the number of sets equal to your MEV, and during these 4 weeks increase volume until you reach your MRV. By then you would be extremely fatigued, hence the deload week. And also the amount of calories should be in accordance to your goals, caloric deficit if you want to lose body fat etc. You can find out more about these concepts if you want, just google Mike Israetel volume landmarks.
@@JuliusCaesar103 Thanks a lot, mate. I think I already found the answer in another video of revive stronger, too. There it was said during cutting it is a one week of maintenance instead of deloading. Makes sense to me as you dont try to overreach while you are cutting
Great interview! In contrast to what you both seem to be advocating here, Michael Matthews and a number of other (drug-free) trainers would strongly disagree with the idea that one should switch to higher reps/lower weight when dieting, arguing that taking weight off the bar when in a caloric deficit is a recipe for muscle loss. What does the actual evidence say about this? I'm currently dieting, so any information on this topic would be most appreciated!
Actually, not entirely. Eric Helms talks about punishing leg workouts being reduced for naturals into a show. I think in this conversation it’s a little exaggerated. It’s not to mean light weights high reps in how you may imagine it. It’s really still training close to failure but with less weights. Which according to a lot of experts produces the same results for hypertrophy. See Brad schoenfelds work.
Ok next level question. What about heavy load body weight weighted basic exercise like in strength wars they we're doing +185 lb weighted dips. I don't remember how many they had to do but if you're training like that how is this not beneficial for everything talked about all around as all together????? I started doing weighted body weight stuff and when I do isolated lifts or focus on 1 area I feel as if I'm just stronger all around and gain extra reps by a lot maybe even due to a stronger core enabling a little sturdier and maybe heavier deadlift ??
@@TheFatSteez trying maintain weight while increasing strength, I want to fight at 155 but I put on so much weight when I lift heavy I can get 175lbs with 10% or under body fat... So my next goal is to get to 5% body fat while trying to maintain my muscle mass and/or just shed fat and rebuild from there... I'm starting to feel like a scientist with my body I've been working out with weights for about a year as going hard. I've always been an athlete into wrestling since a kid plus others, but for wrestling you know the weight cutting is an issue especially for kids it messes up with their development when their coach or dad is like "you can't put on 5lbs!!!" I'm reaching my boiling point here, I'm about to go get something to "Winnie" my competitions .. FINAL NOTE: I can drop to 155 even 145 dropping 20-30 lbs by not eating and doing cario .. and that's awful. Why can't I just be shredded and jacked 165 then when I need to cut 10lbs I should be able to restrict calories do my weigh-in and get my weight back up and rehydrate. Idk ... I'm in a weird spot
I was shocked he actually talked about DNP. IMO DNP is where it's at for fat loss nothing else comes close. The problem with it lies in that there is an incentive to keep upping the dose because people get greedy and just want more results. So theoretically this in itself can fuck people up. Even if you don't die, you can still make your life miserable by taking too much and basically make yourself incapacitated from the things you need to do in your everyday life, including hitting workouts.
One thing Mike says wrong that I find applies to many people is that just eating low fat foods can drive your hunger and cravings crazy. Fats satiate and calm me at night for less calories than stuffing myself with bunch of fruits and vegetables
Going above 12% bodyfat in a gaining phase/bulk is a bad idea if your main goal is bodybuilding. So losing 6-8% bodyfat is a reasonable goal in 3 months like most contest bodybuilders do without having a diet break or something. Introducing high and low carb/calorie day might help if the bodyfat is below 8%. I agree with the training volume on a cut! I have made several mistakes in the past by lowering total volume with the result of losing muscle and tons of strenght 😐
Not hating on the guy, but he had a poor conditioning on his first bodybuilding show. I would rather listen to a less scientific person with a solid track record, like Chris Aceto, John Meadows or Hany Rambod.
Legend has it every blink Mike grows another lb of muscle
His blinking pattern spells out D-O-Y-O-U-E-V-E-N-L-I-F-T-? in Morse code.
He's making sure tha he blinks both eyes at the same time to prevent muscle imbalances. Jeff Cavalier approves.
I lost over 17 pounds last month with this method here: HootFat. com
It works really well and I highly recommend it. . .
Thank you so much for bringing our favorite Mike Israetel 😊😊😊

amazing content, very informative!
God bless you Mike
New to this podcast. I love the knowledge. Where can I buy one of the shirts.
Interesting and reasonable hypothesis on why favoring high reps on a cut/contest prep might be a good idea.
indeed
