Note to the rookies here. These were built as standard SD40s. I am old enough to remember when these were in their original paint and numbers. I remember a day back in Cincinnati(stockyards) in 1979 when on the turntable was a red/black WM SD40. Just after it went through the wash rack. The water made the colors pop like the loco was brand new. Unfortunately after 5 minutes and the water dries, the faded paint shows again. Yes, chessie sent locos through the wash rack. I even remember seeing an ALCO S2 go through the wash there.
Same here Jeff as a matter of fact the WM took pretty good care of their engines until the WM mains were being abandoned the consolidation……loved those old alco switch engines…

SD40-2 (in general) the best and versatile and endurable locomotive model ever built in the world 🌎 EMD of GM were building so reliable engines far above any other manufacturers have come even close to! Illinois from 1977 onwards. like most fans I just could not get out as much as I wanted. someone I know quit (for the most part)taking rr photos when the B&O scrapped their f units,,this was 1974! As for me, I have not been photoing since 1996. really. today, photoing trains is such a generic exercise. if not down right boring adventure. but the memories remain.

I heard they may be doing cab tours, then we will spend the day at the small junction of the spur line that is located behind the Fredericksburg Field House. You are welcome to join!

It goes right by the spot that Lincoln gave his famous speech..along the way it interchanges with Gettysburg Northern (pioneer lines) in gettysburg and in Blue Ridge Summit interchanges with Maryland Midland (G&W)...track and grade crossings have all been upgraded the last few months probably increasing speed limits now to 35 to 40 mph.
Right, it's now the end of November, so I'm gonna start watching for the SBVR grain express again. They should be running again, (or at least back on their normal running times) within the next week. Happy Thanksgiving to you!

Saw this set of sd40s in Hagerstown on the 14th
Note, all former WM SD40s were built as standard SD40s.
As was the GP40s.
