  • The goal for this 1997 Toyota Celsior aka Lexus LS400 is to get it back to as close as OEM factory fresh as possible.
While I’m waiting on a slew of other parts, I got the transmission mount bushing from my local dealer.
I decided to speed run putting it on and was blown away at the difference it made.
Join me on this restoration project!

I have a 95 Celsior with that clunk when going into D. Looking forward to seeing the full suspension refresh to see if it improves the clunk.

Awesome, got my fingers tightly crossed for us both now! It’s such a terrible feeling, as I’m sure you know. Front suspension coming soon, then rear is shortly after that

It's going to be very expensive for all OEM parts from Toyota (even more expensive than some Mercedes). Why not aftermarket ones but good OEM quality?

Gotta do it right! I want to experience the car like it was off the assembly line, even if it’s more costly. Plus I expect OEM will last longer than aftermarket parts

also had to do this on my 99 as when you drive the whole car would vibrate around 3k rpms it was very bad when you would cruise at 80, also got oem part as it was cheaper than aftermarket surprisingly that clunk could be your diff bushing as that also happens to me just have someone look under the rear end to see the movement

OEM and GENUINE.... You have a GENUINE TOYOTA/LEXUS mount there. OEM means made by the same original equipment manufacturer, but not necessarily to the same specification.
The clunk comes from the Bushes on the diff which have become hard or cracked or can even be MISSING!!!
Resonance you hear in the engine are fluidless (worn -out) engine mounts. The LS400 has fluid filled engine mounts, when the oil slowly leaks and evaporates from the mounts... you will feel the throbbing from the engine. You will NOT feel the engine when ALL mounts are re-newed.
Remember that ALL rubber parts on a LS400 are SUPER SOFT and need regular replacement. You should check the front castor rods...bushes crack in those after only 25k kms. yes KILOMETRES!
Cheers from Hunter Valley Wine Country Australia.

When I learned they were fluid filled, I thought that was so cool. Changing the motor mounts I did in a different video and it made a massive difference, as you mention. Seems like diff bushings are definitely in my future

OK. Great videos. Your videos made me get up and go install the mounts from Partsouq I've been carrying around in the trunk for a couple years. At 6:55 you say you have to go look up the torque spec. I've looked through the repair manual and cannot find the torque spec anywhere. Found the front crossmember (72 ft-lb) but cannot find it for the crossmember under the transmission mount. Little help?

Where are you getting oem parts? I have a hard time finding parts. Most things are discontinued

Amayama is where I got the entire front suspension from, which will be in a video soon. They only had a few parts for the rear that I also bought, but my Lexus of Mobile is where I’m getting the rest from. Also Partsouq is where I got the motor mounts from
