Oh sweet, an instrument that can actually play better in front of an audience when you're nervous! Sweaty fingers means you won't have to dip them in water as much.
i dont think it works if you have sweaty hands because you have to clean your hands very thoroughly before playing but im not really sure still funny though
@@captainwithers I spent the last five years teaching myself how to play the glass harp and was just about to go on stage for my first live performance when I got a ding on my phone notifying me of your comment. Can you imagine how embarassing it would've been to find that out on stage? I immediately canceled the show and repurposed the harp for my new hobby of chucking wine glasses at complete strangers on the street while shouting incoherently about the time I wasted. You saved my life!
My God this is incredible. I can only imagine how long it must have taken him to practice this...Infinite respect to Roberto for such a wonderful rendition of this. Thank you.
I could bet money that someone who only heard the audio of this video would never guess what the music was being played on. It sounds so elegant and not just in tune, he keeps the tone soft unlike others who get that sheer sound. This guy is probably the best at it. Thanks so much for sharing!
Just envision these stunted little egos crouched over their computers in their mothers’ basements, one hand continually shuttling to their maw whatever dreck is their Walmart gorge of choice, while the other clicks through a video every five seconds, demonstrating their innate superiority to mere talent by frenziedly clicking on the Dislike icon
hard to imagine anyone disliking this, but imagine if someone is Hearing badly in the upper notes, this must Sound HORRIBLE. But then they would know the Problem was on their side. so Needle Noddle-noo is probably right.
This is the most amazing skill I can imagine. This is nuts to play on my guitar. Robert does not merely touch each glass- as of a piano key. He must glide over some segment of the glass circumference as the duration of contact controls quarter, half or whole notes. I cannot imagine how this is possible- yet I see with mine own eyes. " for the Glory of God " as Bach himself would say.
Not to mention the length of time it must take to "tune" each glass of different sizes with different amounts of water. It's not as if he can pack his instrument up once tuned properly! I presume he must have a record of how many milliliters of water in each glass will cause it to issue a particular note!
An almost angelic stream of pure notes issue forth...and the skill with which to create such ethereal vibrations; the resonance created enhances the music flowing out this instrument. An instrument truly of man and element.
It's incredible to see how much potential the human being has and how creative it can be. Fantastic. Thanks for sharing... Bach sounds spectacular. Well done!
i can't even play this on the Armonica. ): This guy is an absolute *master* \m/ Not sure if the playing wine glasses fad was around in Bach's time, but i gotta believe even he would be blown away and mesmerized by this.
Crystal Glasses have been invented in 1673 by George Ravenscroft, but regular glasses were used for making music since the Middle Ages. The first musical instrument made of upright wine glasses was called the glass harp and was invented around 1750, around same time of Bach . About 10 years later, Benjamin Franklin invented a mechanical version of the glass harp, called the glass harmonica.
Это невозможно! Но как же это прекрасно! Чистейшие звуки, неземное звучание, ангельское... Хоть я и не слышала ангелов... Здоровья, счастья, благополучия, творческих успехов... Благодарю за подаренный праздник души...
Thinking of the setup alone for this... making sure each individual glass is tuned correctly... then all the practice to memorize where each note is. Then having a steady enough hand to unerringly get each and every note on the first try. Very impressive!
Haunting minor scale symphonic movement. The attack, bell tone the crystal makes is truly titillating. And, the low, deep resonance and incredible sustain the crystal creates with water ~ is utterly entrancing........
Found it again!! Toccata and fuge in D minor played in glasses :3 Even though the song has an eerie and misterious feeling, this preformance makes me feel very happy x3
This really gives the seminal Toccata and Fugue an eerie quality, which is what listeners have always felt when listening to the piece. An innovative performance, proving how relevant and versatile Bach is for every age.
Can't understand how this song got any dislikes. He did a great job and it was excellent song. I would like to see just one who didn't like it play as well as he did.
The left half of his table (the High Notes) play Sharp as opposed to the Low notes. It hurts my ears to listen to it. His mastery of the 'keyboard' is good, but the notes need to be in tune to each other.
Luis Santos It has been common and customary for many years to refer to music from the late Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods as "classical music." If you find this displeasing, you might sent a threatening letter to your local classical music radio station, which plays music from all periods.
Arvid Deusenberg And not only is that all kinds of music from the Baroque down falls of Ancient Music so it is completely wrong to call Classical Music. Here in my country, Portugal, know well distinguish the types of music.
Amazing musicianship. Benjamin Franklin invented a musical instrument with rotating glass disks of varying diameter and thickness to achieve different pitches. Franklin called his instrument the glass harmonica. There are,a few dozen glass harmonica performers and the performances are ewually amazing.
@@joermnyc I'm originally from Philadelphia and in my youth took physics courses at the Franklin Institute. Next time I get back to Philly and the Franklin Institute, I'll take a look at the instrument. By the way, during the 1830s, the Franklin Institute printed their own currency that could be used in commerce. I have one in the strange denomination of 12.5 cents. Thank you for your interesting and useful comment.
Although I find this hauntingly beautiful -- it makes me envision old "horror" movies -- some of the higher tones actually hurt my ears with their piercing resonance. Love it!
I agree; I'm impressed with the attack, being able to sound the notes so quickly. When I've tried this, it takes me some time, to get the glass to produce a solid sound. I could never get a glass to start to sound quickly enough, to play a complex piece like this.
Amazing! This is the first time I've heard Toccata and Fugue in D minor and liked it. The first time I heard this was we played it in my high school band. I was 14 and of course, had limited knowledge in music, but it was also a blessing, because I heard more from Bach and found out that I like most of Bach.
I play this on organ and synthesizer. This is an amazing performance. Did you know ta this is the only American invented instrument....Ben Franklin invented it! While you don't hear it as much today, it was very popular with classical orchestras years ago.
Just an idea: This would be excellent as the background music for a "Phantom of the Opera" adaptation in animation somewhat akin to Burton's "The Nightmare Before Christmas".
Wow, I didn't even know that that instrument existed! That was Great!A funny thought came to mind...what if he needed an assistant, and the glasses where filled with wine...and the assistant had a drinking problem?...probably have to tune the thing a lot!
There’s nothing like a nice bit of glassical music…
That pun was crystal clear.
That was a ringing endorsement right there.

Lmao
And every 2 hours top up with water.
The glass is always half full with this guy.

Actually half empty
I mean it's like varying degrees of half full or empty

This is a really nice instrument, not just a gimmick. Maybe they should add some fishbowls for bass notes!
I'm imagining aquariums being used as sub woofers lmfao
Not sure if that's how it works with that logic you could use a bathtub
Unfortunately you need high quality leaded crystal for this to work, a fishbowl won't cut it.
