    Sure glad I discovered your videos! New to Tucson gardening so this has been helpful. Question..can I add the dripper line method to my exsiting underground landscape system by tying into the exisiting header that is currently underground? Distance from my raised beds to "end of line" current underground header is about 20 ft. Thanks in advance...love the videos!!!

    • @SouthwestVictoryGardens
      @SouthwestVictoryGardens  3 роки тому

      Yes you can hook up dripper line anywhere in your landscape. If your main line is further from where you want to use the dripper line then you can run straight 1/4" spaghetti tube from the main header line and then connect to dripper line at your raised bed using a barbed fitting or barbed valve, good luck!

    Your videos have been so helpful and I have a question: what if you don't have any room to install the pressure regulator, filter, etc. after you install your timer? Thanks in advance!

    • @SouthwestVictoryGardens
      @SouthwestVictoryGardens  Рік тому

      While I do like all the components I use in the video, you can most definitely substitute any of the parts and pieces with smaller versions that can fit your space better. I often use a "T" shaped filter rather than the one I use in this video that helps fit into tighter spaces, they probably make timers that are more compact as well. You could also try adding a "Y" Fitting to your hose bibb adjust it until it points in a direction that give you more space. Good Luck!

    • @SouthwestVictoryGardens
      @SouthwestVictoryGardens  3 роки тому +2

      There are PVC fittings not shown in this video you can purchase that would allow you to come right off of the pressure regulator and into a 1/4" spaghetti line, but you wouldn't be able to run that line very far before you would start to loose pressure. It's best to come off a main line as close as possible to your garden or planted area.

    Instead of connecting the timer directly to the faucet, would there be a problem with first connecting a short garden hose or something flexible to the faucet (before the timer) so that I can orient the direction of the timer down the line?

    • @SouthwestVictoryGardens
      @SouthwestVictoryGardens  2 роки тому +1

      Yes certainly, i've seen these timers installed permanently into PVC with fittings so you can for sure do that. as long as the components after the timer are in the right order (filter then pressure regulator) you'll be good to go. Good luck!

      @SouthwestVictoryGardens  3 роки тому +1

      @@CatalpaCreekFarm that is a "compression adapter" for poly line. It's basically the piece that allows you to connect black poly tubing to traditional plumbing fittings like PVC. Compression refers to the way that these types of fittings work, by forming a water tight seal through compression. You could use other types of adapters as well, for example the "power loc" adapter. Compression is the most common type fitting for poly tube.

    I found your product list and ordered from Sprinkler World. I installed my first bib-timer microsprinkler line without any incident. On my second hose bib timer line, however, I have a leak between my backflow and my filter. I checked to make sure everything is connected as you¨have in your video. I made sure there is a rubber washer in the filter, I tried replacing first the filter and then the backflow, and every time it leaks. I'm using Teflon tape. The filter I'm using is a t-filter per your product list, as I could not find the straight filter like in your video. The leak is coming from beneath the filter's top screw attachment where it attaches to the backflow. Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong?

    • @SouthwestVictoryGardens
      @SouthwestVictoryGardens  3 роки тому

      Hey Kate! I'm sorry you're having some trouble with leaks, first I would make sure that there is no physical damage to the filter, sometimes the plastic can crack which will cause a leak. If there's no cracking, try hooking everything up without the backflow preventer and see if there is still leaks. i've experienced with some combinations of backflow preventers and filters you have to really tighten down and even then they sometimes just don't seal up properly. If you're still getting leaks check the threads on all of the plastic pieces, including the timer and see if any of the threads are stripped. Last thing I would try is to replace the pieces, I was at sprinkler world here in tucson last week and they had the long filters you see here in the video in stock, so you might try and see if swapping them out works, good luck!

    If I want to run a hose across my yard to the garden area instead of 30 ft of poly tubing, where in the order of things (timer, vacuum breaker, filter, pressure regulator, powerlock fitting, 1/2 inch polytube) would the hose come in? And would that require another part/adapter of some kind? I need to be able to easily disconnect so I can mow the lawn.

    • @SouthwestVictoryGardens
      @SouthwestVictoryGardens  3 роки тому +2

      I'll give you two options. The first is to do just like you see in the video but instead of connecting the timer to a hose bib or hose faucet you can just connect it to the end of your hose. all the pieces you see and timer can just lay on the ground if that works for you.
      Another option would be to set it up with poly and unscrew the compression fitting from the pressure regulator when you need to mow the lawn and just pull the poly tube out of the way. It isn't necessary to bury the poly tube, you can leave it on the surface. If it's easier, on the other end near your garden use a straight power lock connector coupling so you can disconnect on both ends and reconnect when you are done with yard work. Hope that helps!

    Beginner here...living in the desert of Yuma AZ and needing to conserve water. What is the most ominous part of doing this is the beginning!! Where do I start. I have tons of supplies but worried I'm not going to know how to get a poly drip hose with no end caps or connectors is very scary! A video would be great to see how you take a blank poly drip hose and connect it to the faucet...what connector you use; femal/male...jesus this is overwhelming! Its keeping me from doing it.

    • @SouthwestVictoryGardens
      @SouthwestVictoryGardens  2 роки тому +1

      Hi MeLin, I am from Yuma! All of this irrigation stuff is confusing at first, but eventually you'll get the hang of it. The hardest part is figuring out how long and how often to water your plants, second hardest thing is learning how to program the irrigation timer, third hardest thing is actually trying to insert the emitters into the tubing, but eventually it all becomes easier. I recommend you watch all of the videos in the description from part 1 all the way through, it will help to give you an overall understanding of all of the components in the system and how you set it up from scratch. Please feel free to reach out again with specific questions if you're having trouble with anything. Good luck!

    Can you place the backflow and regulator before the timer?

    • @SouthwestVictoryGardens
      @SouthwestVictoryGardens  3 роки тому

      Good question. It's best to have the backflow and regulator after the timer. If the backflow is under constant water pressure over time it can fail. Some timers won't kick on properly if the pressure is too low, some are designed for lower pressure so you just have to check around. Good luck!

    Hi, great video. I have a 250 gallon water tank that collects rain water. It is hooked up now to use a hose with it. I was wanting to add a electric water pump. Is there a pump you can recommend that would work well for a system to water 12 raised garden beds? Also would you hook it up the same way you did in this video but just add the electric pump in? Thank you so much.

    • @SouthwestVictoryGardens
      @SouthwestVictoryGardens  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Kelly, thanks for your questions! You should be able to rig something up to your water tank that will work. One thing I would check is what kind of effect the pressure regulator will have on whatever pump you use. Sometimes when you restrict the flow of pumps it can lead to them overheating and breaking down, so you'll want something designed to work with low water pressure. Depending on the set up, you might also need to find a timer that works with low pressure as well. You'll just have to experiment and find out which product work best for your set up. The way I would set it up would be rain barrel-->pump-->timer-->filter-->pressure regulator-->compression adapter-->poly line-->emitter tubing. Because you are using rain barrels a backflow preventer is unnecessary. Good luck!

    OK so does it have to run directly from the spiket?
    Or can I set up The timer filter set up where my race bed start and have a quick connect from the water hose- into system?

    • @SouthwestVictoryGardens
      @SouthwestVictoryGardens  2 роки тому

      I get this question quite a bit, certianly you don't need to connect it right to the spigot, you can run a hose from the spigot over to your timer somewhere else like raised beds or whatever. I've seen these timers installed to PVC underground or in a variety of different ways. Once you get the hang of how all the components work, you can get creative for how you design your system. Good luck!

Can I attach the poly tubing onto that instead of buying extra poly tubing to come from the water outlet or do I have to use the poly tubing from the water outlet all the way back to the garden. Hey Francisco, thanks for checking out the video. I'm not sure I have a good answer unfortunately, I have not seen timers that have built in backflow preventers so I don't have any experience with what you describe. If you are unable to replace the anti-siphon valve to keep it from leaking you might need to replace the timer. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, wish you the best of luck!

      @@SouthwestVictoryGardens wow I'm so happy you at least gave me the time of day. You got my subscription. But i worded it wrong , I meant the anti syphon on the spigot. It leaks maybe from the pressure I suppose then I have to take the cap off and push the gasket back then, then it stops for maybe 20 mins and it happens again.

    • @SouthwestVictoryGardens
      @SouthwestVictoryGardens  3 роки тому +1

      @@franciscobueno6589 It's possible that the anti-syphon has gone bad, which can happen if it is under constant water pressure. The backflow preventer or anti-syphon should always be attached after the hose spigot so it is not constantly under pressure. If you have a 3 station timer, you might have to get an anti-siphon for each of the ports on the timer. You have options, you can buy 3 new anti-syphons and attach them to the timer ports, or you can just by a new one and install it as is understanding that it may need to be replaced from time to time, whatever works best for you. Hope that helps! :)
