Yes...that is whipped butter to spread about, and then douse it in syrup. In my 62 yrs, I've never taken a bite of pancake w/o syrup. I now don't care for maple syrup so I use corn syrup. But I had Maple or maple flavored syrup throughout my early years.
Would depend on if you have some fresh fruit/like that sort of thing to begin with but i'll normally just clean some berries and throw them in a bowl covered in sugar overnight in the fridge to macerate. Then In the morning throw that in a sauce pan to boil and thicken up for about 10 minutes. Now you've got a homemade berry syrup to drizzle on pancakes. Strawberries and blackberries work great, but you can use what you like, or mix multiple berries.
Did they not give you multiple syrups? There should be maple, blueberry, strawberry, and butter pecan. Eating pancakes dry without syrup is mad. The only cream should be in the coffee or whipped on top.

I'm so glad you enjoyed it! That chicken dish looked fantastic! Those are American hashbrowns (fried shredded potatoes). British hashbrowns are called hashbrown patties here. You would usually get patties in a fast food breakfast like McDonalds or Carl's Jr. You usually get standard hashbrowns in restaurants and diners. I'm surprised you only tried the maple syrup. There should have been a syrup caddy on your table with maple, blueberry, strawberry, and butter pecan. My favorite is the strawberry. The butter on the pancakes is whipped butter (pretty standard in diners). The sauce on the waffles was whipped cream (used alot with strawberries in the US). Our lemonade is lemon, water and sugar. You can buy sparkling lemonade or lemon flavored soda, but our lemonade is not fizzy. In glad your trip turned out so well!
You should have had pancakes, eggs, sausage, and bacon, maybe with toast and hash browns. IHOP isn't fancy but they provide a decent or better breakfast most of the time and you often get your money's worth.

@@Hornsfan64 Referring to hamburgers of course (medium rare rare chicken? Ick). But maybe your comment was more a reference to non-Americans calling ANY kind of meat on a bun a “burger” - which I noticed the Beeslys and others do.
@@joeterp5615 Yes, the latter.
@@joeterp5615 Exactly. If you season your food properly when preparing it then you don't need to add a bunch of extra shit to it afterwards. Why would you want everything to taste the same (like hot sauce, etc.)?
Lol BUTTER EVERYTHING!!! Always add more than what you need. Syrup on everything!😊
LOL!!! A TRUE American comment if I ever read one "Always add more than what you need. Syrup on everything!" Love it !
The pancakes will soak up as much as they need. You can't add too much. They will let you know when they've had enough.
Our local IHOP only has the fake maple on the table. You have to request other flavors, and they bring it in a little plastic tub.
The last IHOP that I went to had only maple on the table, as well. I remember because it surprised me. I was used to seeing multiple flavors.
In say, 2018 there was 4 syrups on the table. Past 2020 maybe not. They never came back
@@davestvwatching2408 Right now, here in NY, we have all 4 on the table.
Since the pandemic, it's like syrup has been rationed.
Cutting the pancakes wrong!@!! LIKE A WHEEL! a wheel!
Regarding the pancakes, usually you spread the butter on, although the butter is optional, and then add syrup. You don’t usually eat them dry. Regarding the syrup as little or as much as you prefer. My preference is blueberry pancakes. Enjoy!
Lemonade in the US is not carbonated (fizzy) like it is in the UK.
Except I did get a bottle of lemonade in Dollar Tree, thinking it was standard lemonade until I tried it, was carbonated!
@@janetsanford6923obviously wasn’t regular American Lemonade 😅 probably sparkling water or something
@@whoishim2998 no, just checked the bottle, it's not sparkling water, it's called (according to the front of the bottle) "Frostie classic lemonade", although the first 2 ingredients listed are carbonated water and cane sugar.
I never heard that before now. So weird.
@@janetsanford6923 Exceptions to every rule but that is an old brand never popular but I have heard of it.
SYRUP, SYRUP, SYRUP!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pancakes and waffles requires the syrup or its never going to be the complete proper experience!!!!
How can you eat that without syrup
Heavily drench the pancakes and/or waffles with syrup. They also have flavored syrup... like strawberry and blueberry syrup. I don't understand why you would eat these without the syrrup and butter.
My favorite is the real Vermont maple syrup when it is heated up.
They actually have strawberry syrup, which is perfect for strawberry covered waffles. I prefer it to maple syrup, which I like on my pancakes, but not waffles.
Greetings from Texas. Always enjoy your videos. Had never seen anyone eat pancakes or waffles without syrup.😊
condiments! Sauce! everything should be smoothered in butter, syrup, jam, ketchup or hot sauce!
They don’t know butter from cream? Butter is on pancakes not cream. Use the freaking syrup!
“Oh yeah.” That’s the most AMERICAN thing you’ve said yet! Welcome brother, welcome sister. 🙂 🍴😋
That cream is very buttery. lol
Right no cream just creamy butter possibility whipped butter.
How can you eat pancakes or waffles without syrup?
What y'all call lemonade, we'd call lemon soda.
We have what they call lemonade as well, it's just generally sold as "Sparkling Lemonade" in the states.
You pour syrup on pancakes and waffles! It drove me crazy to watch this
6 bites and James is full🤣😂😂😂
It's because he takes gargantuan bites, or he cuts huge pieces and can barely shove them in his mouth.
"Not fizzy like lemonade"??? I have never had carbonated lemonade.
It does exist here but uncommon. And not as good as real lemonade.
Most sparkling water brands have a lemonade flavor, like Sparkling Ice, Bubly or La Croix.. Maybe that's what they've been drinking at home.
I play online with a guy from NZ and he told me that their lemonade was carbonated. He was surprised that ours was made from lemons, sugar and regular water.
You need to put syrup on the pancakes and on the waffles
When I eat my pancakes there is no bite I take that doesn't have syrup 😂
They apparently never have had whipped butter before at home.
That’s butter on top of the pancakes, not cream, and you always, always, always, always put syrup on the pancakes. You never eat them without syrup. At least that’s how Americans do it. You guys may do a different thing, but if you want the American experience, you gotta douse them with syrup. Tons of it! And after you eat on them a little while you gotta add a little more! Put The syrup to it!
I never eat them with syrup. Growing up, we never ate them for breakfast, always for dinner and with dinner we drank iced tea. The syrup always dulled the tea for me, so I never liked syrup.
This IHOP is in the Westchester neighborhood (Los Angeles) that I grew up in, and it is and near LAX. The building used to be bank. Notice the stone horse and rider above the door 0:03 . I have been there several times, but not recently. It's hard to do a bad breakfast and theirs looks good.
we put syrup on pancakes waffles french toast lol and a lot of it tooooooo !!!! enjoy
IHOP is breakfast all day so that could be lunch or dinner or midnight 😊
Spread the butter all over the pancakes then douse with syrup before cutting and eating. So much better!
Fruit Pancakes require a fruit syrup. Blueberry syrup a must
You should have had pancakes, eggs, sausage, and bacon, maybe with toast and hash browns. IHOP isn't fancy but they provide a decent or better breakfast most of the time and you often get your money's worth.
I actually prefer them to Cracker Barrel, which I know is sacrilegious to many people lol.
you have to put syrup on pancakes and waffles !!!!!!!
You drown pancakes and waffles in syrup
I have eaten at IHOP well over a hundred times and not once have I ever gotten pancakes. I usually get eggs with sausage and hash browns, and sometimes a side of Crepes or french toast and then sometimes I get a omelette. ❤🙏🏻🤔
At 9AM everyone has already been up for 4 hours.
Usually IHOP has multiple kinds of syrup on the table. You may utilize with your meal.
At my IHOP you have to ask for the other syrup if its not on the table since they stop putting the other syrup on the table for some reason
