Shark Rotator Professional Lift Away Vacuum Cleaner Review

- Hi Guys, today I’m reviewing the Shark Rotator Professional Lift-Away (NV501) . LINK to Shark Rotator: amzn.to/2dtWDya
Micro Attachment Kit: amzn.to/2dduoVl
The vacuum is 45.7 inches tall by 13.4 inches wide and 12.2 inches deep. The unit weighs 15.5 pounds. The cord length is 30 feet and wraps around this upper hook and this lower hook, it is not retractable. The cleaning path is 9.5 inches.
Included are 3 filters. The foam and felt filter should be rinsed with water every 3 months. You can regularly tap the foam filters to get dust off. The HEPA filter should be rinsed with water once a year. Don’t use soap when cleaning. There are also attachments that come with this unit, crevice tool, dusting brush, premium pet power brush, straight suction nozzle, wide upholstery tool. An instruction manual is included as well as a caddy.
The power button is clearly marked here. All the parts click into place and there are big red buttons which make it easy to figure out where all the parts go. It’s well thought out. Press the buttons with the unlock picture to release parts. If you want to clean carpet, turn on the brush roll. If you’re cleaning bare floors, leave the brush roll off.
I’m using the Pet power brush on a cat tree. You can see the cat hair on the brush. There is some cat hair left on the cat tree. I’ll try the regular dust brush, it’s good for small spots. Now there is no hair left. This is gorilla munch cereal, they are balls. Brush roll is off and I’ll try vacuuming these up. Since these are bigger, we’ll use the wand to suck them up. That worked well. Here is some flour that I’ll try to vacuum up. That didn’t work. I’ll try the crevice tool, wand. My Hoover Linx worked well. The straight suction nozzle, that seems to work well on flour. You can choose bare floor or carpet with this attachment.
Crumbled up goldfish crackers. Straight suction nozzle worked well. The floor nozzle did a decent job as well. The super fine crumbs were not picked up. Cat hair. Dry leaves with the brush roll off. The bigger leaves are left behind. I’ll turn the brush roll on - that worked well. My hair with the brush roll on, sucked it right up. Granola on hardwood floors - everything was picked up. Steps with the wide upholstery tool. The canister was not too heavy to hold but it is not lightweight either. A really good job of cleaning the steps. It sucked up all the hair and small particles. Dry leaves on the carpet with the brush roll on. All the leaves are gone. Pet hair - that’s all gone. Granola, all sucked up. The transition from carpet to hardwood floors is not great and the vacuum did miss some crumbs on the hardwood floor.
The dust cup looks large but the filter takes up some here. I have very little carpet and mostly hardwood floors and the dust cup is already a third full. If you have a house full of carpet, you may have to empty the canister more often. The vacuum has a lot of suction power and seems to get deep into the carpet to get all the dirt so that also contributes to more dirt in the canister.
Overall, I think this Shark Rotator is great for carpet. With the attachments, it’s good on hardwood floors. Don’t expect it to be lightweight and glide across hardwood floors like stick vacuums.
If you have mostly carpet and pets, I would give this Shark a try since it is powerful and gets deep into carpet.
As always, I hope you found this review useful. Subscribe and I’ll see you next time. Thanks for watching :)
I have owned Shark vacuums for a number of years. Never have I been let down. This one. A total beast! This vacuum sucks up everything in it's way with no difficulty. It's a heavy vacuum so may not be the best for someone who struggles with weighted items. It allows me to reach everywhere and detaches to make stairs so much easier. The only difficulty is that there is no place to store the extra pieces that come with it. I can handle that. Best Shark that I've ever owned.
One that could help you is get a bag with a zipper and put all your attachments in there
I had the chance to use this vacuum cleaner yesterday and I was absolutely thrilled with the power and also how well it did on carpet. I would give this one a huge 5 star rating. I would highly recommend this vacuum to anyone.
Thanks for sharing 😀
bestkitchenreviews you are welcome.
Do you still have the dynamite
Just bought this thanks to your video. Works so good! We were amazed at how much dust it picked up.
This lady knows how to test a vacuum
😀
DuMaChetDi She does
Yep
Best Vacuum ive ever used. Got mine new in 2012 and it still works great.
So incredibly helpful! My old roommates left their vacuum behind, and so I've been using it for my rugs. Now I can use it more efficiently, thank you!
👍😀
I had one for several years. Still going strong.
For the cereal, you're supposed to use that grey attachment specially designed for floors! The straight suction nozzle shown @ 0:41
I had mine for almost 4 months and it still works great. I enjoy watching you videos
Hi Jimmy, thanks for sharing :)
bestkitchenreviews I do have a vacuum collection I can upload a video of it if you want to see it?
Found mine from Dirt Cheap 4 years ago & called shark to replace a missing part. Got it for free! I still love the vacuum!
I've had this vacuum for almost 3 years now, love it. The newer model they just came out with looks even better.
Hi Eric, thanks for sharing your experience with us :)
Since said Professional...means same as good for commercial used ?
@@abdiascommunication2897 I mean I think they just put whatever words in the name they think will make it sell, but I’d say it is pretty tough
Did you test flour with the brush roll on? Because that may have worked better
Love my Shark rotator lift away! My only concern is I needed to replace the lower suction hose as it cracked open from age! I finally was able to replace the hose after much work and a few choice words! An extremely poor design and after notifying Shark they told me I needed to replace the entire lower unit! What a crock!
I own this vacuum for 10years I I have replaced the head brush once this vacuum is so powerful I recommend it
Thanks for sharing 😁
We bought a shark vacuum cleaner a year ago, we love the vacuum cleaner, works perfectly. Then we had a problem with the head not working. We called shark warranty service they tried to solve the problem over the phone, they couldn't figure it out. They had us ship it back to them at their expense and they sent us a brand-new one. Great vacuum cleaner!
Thanks for sharing your experience, John 😀
Was it that the rotator brush wasn’t turning? Mine isn’t! Does it have a belt? Nothing has mentioned it on any of my research. Thanks for an answer back…
I just wanted to say, what a great review! This was direct, clear, and helpful beyond measure. Thank you!
😁
I have had mine for about 1-1/2 years and it has always worked great. Thanks for another nice review. I have been one of your subscribers for quite a while.
Hi Steve, thanks so much - subscribers like you keep me going :)
I like the way they've redesigned the dust brush -- one of the few imperfections in the previous iteration of the Rotator.
I just bought this exact vacuum tonight! It works Great!! It pulled a ton of crap out of my carpets. I vacuumed earlier today with my old vacuum too. However mine didn't come with the tool caddy or the pet brush HMMMMM!! wonder why!
I just bought one yesterday and mine did not come with the caddy??
I am a bit dissapointed in the lack of carpet tests as I do not have any hardwood flooring in my home.
Just got mine 3-4 days ago. It works great.
Thanks for sharing 😀
Some observations:
- Shark still markets this product but the power pet brush has been discontinued and is also not available on Amazon. Shark suggests a different type of brush that does not color coordinate with this vacuum cleaner. I was able to find the brush demonstrated in the video on eBay however.
- The caddy is available for about $60 on Shark's site but is not available on Amazon. They also offer a simple bag for storing attachments.
- Would like to see more of Anita in these videos because she's darn cute!
Hi! I just found your review-thank you for explaining this unit. I just received mine today and keep wondering if I made the correct choice. My home is small but with lots of people and pets. One 6 x 8 low pile rug. Most reviews of the Shark products are confusing-too many "total love" and too many "complete hate" reviews. All the attachments and bulk might be over kill for my place.
M B right? This is so confusing 🤦🏻♀️ I know people who has this vacuum and work in housekeeping bad they say is a good vacuum, but the reviews on Amazon say this is a noon good vacuum 😕
Mine did not come with the caddy, not sure why. But everything else is exactly the same so pretty sure I got the same thing...
I'm here looking for a silent vacuum. This was a suggestion during my research. I do like the fact the sound profile is very low. However, this does not seem like a very good vacuum. When a vacuum can't pick up flour (and I am not a baker) that's a problem. I also am not a fan of using all of those different on board attachments.
I saw a G.
I've seen it all.

I BOUGHT THE SHARK PROFESSIONAL ROTATOR LIFT A WAY PRIOR TO 2016. in august of 2016 thousands of homes flooded inLouisiana ( great flood of 2016). 5 I/2 ft water in home. lost everything, except my shark that was under water 6 days. a year after flood I had kept it and just plugged in to see if still worked, still covered in mud, IT WORKED!!! So I cleaned off as much mud as I could and it works as it did new, flawless. model no. NV502 26. I DID LOOSE THE SMALL ALLPIANCE ADAPTER KIT DUE TO THE MASSIVE REMOVAL GUTTING OF MY HOME. THE UNIT WAS NOT CHEAP NEW, BUT WORTH EVERY PENNY. THANKS AND HATS OFF TO SHARK AS IT STILLS CLEANS LIKE NEW
I also love the shark Romba
You should note that the Shark will NOT work on shag or thick carpet. The brush shuts off automatically. There is no way to raise the height of the vacuum like on most models. This a major flaw and I think makes it pretty much
worthless as it does not work on an entire category of carpeting. The manual states "it works on ALL carpets" that is completely false.
+Chris Martin Thanks for sharing :)
Chris Martin worked on my shag carpets for over a year now..
You are WRONG! It works on every carpet in my home including very thick custom carpeting. I don't know about shag since I haven't had shag since 1953.
Hi Chris, I think people dont really know what shag carpeting it. Some people have a "plush" rug and call it shag; thats not shag. I have a modern shag rug that has nearing 2" high ?threads?. As you stated, this vacuum is NOT made for REAL SHAG.
I just bought this yesterday but why didn't mine com with the caddy. I was like okay.. where do I put all the extra stuff lol. Is it missing?
Shark has different packages for their vacuums, so even though it's the same vacuum it won't always come with the same attachments
Anita it was great that you put things down to really test it out. All the stuff on the floor must have annoyed you lol .
Yes, they did 😃
Love u review! Quite candid & comprehensive illustration. May I ask what part of this would u use to clean under your bed on a carpeted floor
This was a fantastic review. Thank you. Would you say this is the best vacuum to buy or do you recommend another model over this one? Thanks again
Peter
My original post was to say THANK YOU for this video. This is exactly what I needed to help make up my mind and I couldn't find anyone with a review like this. Thank you!!
I went ahead and subbed too because you used the other vacuum cleaner to get up what this one missed and replied to another poster with the review for that too! You seem to know exactly what people are looking for when trying to decide on a purchase.
Hi Matt, happy to know the video was helpful. Thanks so much for the positive comments and subscribing :)
Bought this vacuum 10rys ago as a wedding gift. I don't understand what my sibling and their former spouse did to this vacuum. But I inherited and Bern fixing parts after parts. It's still a great vacuum, but not sure how much life it has after the beating this thing took. The most annoying thing It's the high pitch noise it makes when vacuuming, still trying to figure that out and how to fix it. Most expensive wedding gift I ever bought, never again I let someone convince me to buy them an expensive item after seeing how bad this vacuum was mistreated. The bottom has a big crack. when it finally dies, I'm gonna get myself a brand new one.
WHAT is the name of your HOOVER LIGHTWEIGHT Length ??? Model ??? It looks like this is small like I want it and it worked great on the flour, Do you have a review of this one too?
Hi, mine is the old model Hoover Linx. There is a less expensive newer version that I have not reviewed. Here is the link if you want to buy either version. amzn.to/3QDUGAJ. I still use the old model 😁
Very nice professional sounding review. It's very confusing with all the different models "Shark" has to choose from so this review was helpful in an attempt to pick one out for my g/f's b'day. We have mixed carpeted & vinyl areas with a stairway so this model seems like it might be ok for our needs.
I'm assuming you do this as an independent free of corporate bias when videoing equipment such as this? Sorry,, first timer here & you come off so clear sounding it almost sounds scripted,, take that as a compliment,, you sound very professional in your delivery.
Walmart now advertises these as model NV400 with the Shark Rotator "Lift Away" Professional listed as an NV500 model costing about $75 more in price than the NV400. Do you know if there's that big a difference in the two models?
Thanks again,, nice review.
Very professional and informative. I feel less anxious about purchasing this unit. Thank you.
👍😀
Thank You very much.....this was a big help..........Robert in Delaware
Glad it was helpful, Robert 😀
it’s not to do with the attachment but the way the flour is reacting to whatever oils are in the wood flooring
I've had my Shark Rotator for a couple year and love it. My comment is I can't get the pet vac attachment to work correctly. The brush will not turn. Any ideas?
On the flour test for the bare floor area, did you turn on the brush and also did you try to adjust the suction power? I'm curious because I am thinking about purchasing this vacuum today. And one my issues with any type of vacuum is how well they work on floors. In my experience they don't work as well on bare floors. Last question, do you recommend any vacuums that transitions well from carpet to floor? Thanks.
Hi Maggie, I didn't turn on the brush roll for hard wood floors, I didn't adjust the suction power. The straight suction nozzle was the only attachment that worked well on the flour.
The Hoover Linx stick vac I reviewed a while back is great for hardwood floors and it does a good job on carpet as well. It transitions well but it has a setting for carpet which is what makes the transition easier. You can watch my review of that Hoover here: ua-cam.com/video/rEFAz1hIAPE/v-deo.html
It is a light weight stick vac so if you have a lot of carpet, it's better to get another vacuum. It's really ideal for hardwood floors.
Hope that helps :)

I had my shark for 6 years and it work strong
Thanks for sharing your experience with us :)
DO you still have the dynamite?
bestkitchenreviews is the link were you got it
What makes you know whether or not you should use the brush roll?
Awesome review. I have five shark products. Can't go wrong.
Hi Lacey, glad you liked the review. Thanks for sharing your experience with us :)
I always loved my Shark.
How do you turn on the wand....you missed that part
bkr u r good. Excellent, fair, comprehensive, real world & efficient review. Thank u.
Thank You :)
Anyway to adjust the height of the vacuum? For really shag carpet?
I didn't get all the accessories with mine.
i have it and i really dont like the pet attachement. the waynd by itselft wihout any attachments if like 60% stronger
Good video but I’m wondering if there is a video that shows how to take off and empty the canister etc, things like that? I’m still confused on some things. I got one used so that’s why I don’t know. I’m pretty sure it’s missing a few parts.
The video specifically demonstrated removing and emptying the canister.
I have the same Shark vacuum but mine is in purple and its really quiet.
Hi Jimmy, thanks for sharing :)
bestkitchenreviews do you want me to do a video of my shark vacuum ?
p.s. WARNING THE LINK FOR THE ATTACHMENTS TO VACCUUM THE CAR DOES NOT WORK WITH SHARK. THE VENDOR WARMS ABOUT THIS.
Great review. I just got mine in the mail and I can’t wait to try it out
Thanks 😀
Great video thank you
Thanks for a thoughtful, honest review.
My pleasure!
Really helpful, informative review!
Glad it was helpful :)
mine just got dropped off by UPS because I have a large dog I need it for the pet hair since the other vacuum doesn't work that great
Hi Derek, let us know how it does on the dog hair :)
It worked great on dog hair on carpet cuz my dog sheds a lot and it picks it up fast the only drawback is the compartment size which was a little bigger
but mine didn't come with the caddy for the accessories
+Derek Bond The accessories usually change with different models. Thanks for sharing, Derek :)
Only way to get rid of pet hair is a dyson animal or multifloor which works well now the animal comes with a turbo tool that pet hair doesn't get tangled you can get the dyson on sale for around 250 i totally recommend it it's better than this by 100 percent it's pricey I get that but it's going to last
Mine did not come with the canister caddy does anybody else have that issue it's very cumbersome I actually miss my Bissell and I thought I'd never say that it doesn't suck up like what people have said either just got it today
For the dusting brush.
Do you still love your shark? I’m one the market for a new vacuum
How do your turn off brush roll
What is the price
Found one in the garbage the head isn't spinning , probably a belt. Vacumed leaves on the patio , made a path.
Were waiting on ours 😊
I kinda don't like the fact that they put the power button on the bottom, they're two power buttons and if you want to do carpet cleaning you have to press the power + brushroll button and if you want to bare floor or wand cleaning you have to press the power button by itself where's on a normal vacuum the power button is on the handle. I don't like how they designed on how you start it because I couldn't find it when I was trying to turn it on for my vacuuming chore at school with that same vacuum so someone eventually came in who's Nova because she knows about the schools vacuums and she pressed the power + brushroll button and it worked but the main reason why I couldn't find the power button in the vacuum that I used in school today is because the "power" text on the power button is all faded and it's not in a color that gives me attention which is a warm color like bright red, orange, or yellow. So the next time I use this vacuum for my chores I'll have to figure out the buttons which are: power button by itself for bare floor or wand cleaning, power button by itself next to the brushroll button, or power button and the brushroll button at the same time.

Comment updated as I figured out how to turn it on by pressing the power button overneath the brushrool button but I had to move it back and forth a lot to clean the space so next time for better carpet cleaning performance to reduce the movement of the vacuum going back and forth to clean up the stuff on the floor I'll use the brushroll button next time. updated on: Tuesday January 31st at 5:05 PM EST
thanks so much this help a lot
Best vacuum out there!
Can you tell me what brand of vacuum is the one you used for flour? The lightweight one
Hi Emelita, It's the Hoover Linx. You can buy it here: amzn.to/1OW2oOP
Here is my review of the Hoover: ua-cam.com/video/rEFAz1hIAPE/v-deo.html
so glad to see this video and reviews. our old one does not pick up the best and sounds like a freight train lol
🤣
its not a shark though lol
Got mine 3 days ago
Marcelino Esteban how is it? Still work ok? I need one and this is my favorite so far, but the reviews on amazon doesn’t help, most people hate it.
What a great review, and excellent video quality!
+UnderwaterSurfer Thanks 😀
I do professional Carpet cleaning these Sharks clog so quickly. I will unclog them, clean the rollers for my customers for free with my truck mounted equipment :) They all thought they were broken! Get a Kirby!
Can you just tell me which one to buy hoover linx or shark rotator for floor tiles in terms of suction power, noise level, weight, multi purpose
Hi Anu, I use the Hoover Linx on my hardwood floors and tile, I don't have much carpet. If you also need the vacuum to clean carpet, then buy the Shark. If you don't need to clean carpet, the Hoover Linx is fine. Hope that helps :)
Bestkitchen reviews thank you for your quick reply
Superb review!!!!
Thanks 😀
Shark doesn't suck up flour. Gluten free!
I love that vacuum
😀👍
Hoover linx cordless stick vacuum bh50010 4:45
Thank you!
love it!!
👍😀
Great advice
wow it's clean good
My roller won't go around. What do I do??
If it's on carpet press brush roll and lay it on the carpet that should work if it's on the floor use that gray thing that said carpet or floor it sucks the dust
see: "How I Fixed Shark Rotator Brush Not Spinning" by Hank on youtube. Easy to follow. He saved me!
hi I have parquet floor throughout the whole house what do you recommend?
Hi Jens, it's best to get a vacuum with a hardwood floor setting. I have parquet floors and regular hardwood floors in my house. I use the Hoover Linx Stick vacuum which works well. You can see my review of it here:
ua-cam.com/video/rEFAz1hIAPE/v-deo.html
Hope that helps :)
You feel that it would be better than any of those shark rocket or dyson?
Hi, it really depends on how dirty your floors get. I don't have pets or too much foot traffic, so the simple stick vacuum is enough for my floors. If you want other features and accessories, then I would invest in another vacuum.
I just upload a video of my vacuum collection if you guys want to see it.
I need to get motor for it
Your the shark queen son
😀
bruh all I need to see is how to put the thingy on from the lift away
Thanks, I've been purchasing another brand and it seems to work for the need. I just wanted something better and I saw the Shark commercial and I was impressed. Now I'm not so impressed.
+memyselfand65 Thanks for sharing:)
memyselfand65 in fairness this is quite a old shark model & the duo clean has been designed to tackle fine particles like flour much better than most other vacuums
Anita do you still use this vacuum ?
Hi Carol, since I have very little carpet in my house, I gave it to a friend who can get more use out of it 😀
@@bestkitchenreviews Awwww, you're a lovely lady Anita. Merry Christmas hon xx
Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
It's a really nice vacuum, but when something goes wrong with it, like a broken switch, vacuum cleaner repair stores won't repair it! So you can't get it fixed and you have to toss the whole thing and buy and new vacuum!
This is so true. It is poorly made inside. You even have to arduously take apart the entire bottom piece (about 9 screws layered) to change the brush and belt. Also, because the brush only moves when you lean the handle back it puts pressure on the INTERNAL (on cordwrap side) green flip on switch ($1 on ebay) but most people trash this vacuum not know they could just replace the switch with little technical difficulty. Yes, its time consuming to open it up but it can be done. There is another youtubber named Hank that shows you the internal green switch titled: "How I Fixed Shark Rotator Brush Not Spinning". Big Business purposely does this so you will buy another one. Capitalism, I often wonder!
Doesn’t look like it is working very well , that is disappointing
