Here's Everything GREAT about Assassin's Creed Mirage! Mirage was an Assassin's Creed game that was kinda weird coming off the heels of the RPG era. Ubisoft wanted to test the waters of fans enjoying old Assassin's Creed games. We've got many many references to Altair and the first game that it's not even funny. What did I think about it truly? Stick around till the end to hear the brought back longer form concluesions!

Please do homefront the revolution
I think mirage, as well as odyssey and valhalla, highlight how blindly following the assassins or templars and rejecting any other viewpoint is bad and thats why all of the progress made by the protagonists of each game in both the past and modern day keeps being lost and they all keep fighting each other in an eternal war that drags all of humanity into the crosshairs. The assassins, while they're roughly still the good guys, are getting called out more and more as being basically a cult. This was pointed out even back in unity.
Actually this theme was even in the first game. Altair slowly starts questioning his mentor and if he’s on the right side. Of course he doesn’t completely shift sides but the line between these two factions really just depends on the writers and directors of each game. Ezio series has a much more black and white story while ac 1 and 3 both has the main character be more abstract.
Odyssey is set before the assassins and has no Templars
I like how as us AC fans grow older, we start to put the Ezio trilogy aside, and begin to appreciate the other AC's narrative we did not understand how to appreciate before.
@@JamesSmith-ny2gbThe order of the ancient is the precursor of what we later know as the Templars.
I don't think Eivor ever *believed* in the Assassin's cause. More of an Enemy of my Enemy thing, temporary alliance for mutual gain, picking up tactics and intelligence on a clandestine group your people has never heard of. To call them friends or even allies would be giving your back to them. It honestly felt *perverse* that Loki/Basim occupied the skin of Eivor after Layla died.
I guess that's part of the issue introducing dialogue trees, make-your-own characters, and rpg elements in general. Goes for alot of series. I.e. MY Venom Snake (MGSV) is a selective serial killer, only recruiting the top of the line soldiers and leaving the rest as red stains on the sand. Other people played as if they were Big Boss himself, total altruist non-lethal runs, seeing him/themselves as a saint on the battlefield.
Same could apply to Eivor, Cassandra/Alexios, V, Geralt, or any Fallout protag. Tough to sort the wheat (canon) from the chaff (optional dialogue and rogue/paragon paths).
Altair, from AC 1 would later write down "The Three Great Ironies" of the Creed of the Assassins in his codex journal.
1.) That they seek to promote peace, but murder is their means.
2.) They seek to open the minds of men, bur require obedience to a master and set of rules.
3.) They seek to reveal the danger of blind faith, yet they are practitioners themselves.
So Basim came to understand at least the second one, of having to follow what his masters say. Than to understand what "freedom" truly means.
Something that i noticed while playing ac mirage for the 2 and 3de time is in the house of wisdom missions if you talk to Nehal and follow her around (the mission taking place at 17:04) her feet actually gives of black smoke when she walks around i think that is super cool hint that she is not real.
Something that played Odin's hand in Valhalla. "Who is this mysterious hooded figure? Is he real? He has a bird like me." Nah. Dude's in your hugur or whatever.
17:02 what a very funny yet traumatic way to prove a point. I've been in that situation but in the not step-dad role.
I was going to sleep when you post this because it is 2 am in Türkiye. Then I saw GamingWins and AC. So not sleeping till I finish the video.
One thing I always love about Mirage is Basim personality. Look, I like his older self, but I like my protagonist who is earnest at his goals.
Also, regarding the electronic music at the end of Mirage, I also want to add how fitting that it is a modern rendition of Mirage theme.
So Ghost of Tsushima, RDR2, Mirage, and... Shadow of the Colossus? I don't know the fourth one. Just guessed the first game that has a horse in it that came to mind. Elden Ring! Torrent dies in the Frenzied Flame ending!
Last of us
LOU2 as well, Shimmer got her belly blown out by a claymore and shot in the head.
Last of us 2, horse dies in explosion
But Aggro survives in SotC, she's with Mono in the ending.
16:07 got me laughing so hard, like " Where did that come from?!" 😂😂😂😂😂
Good to have you back my man
i’ve always looked at the assassins creed series as”this is badass , there was a people who where set to show the word the truth “ which is. nice, however we aren’t , the world is what we make of it , focus of the bad , it’s death , lies and everything in between. however , focus on what is in front on you , which is life , beauty and another day and everything else goes away , “work” so what your alive another day right.
I just got finished watching the everything great about god of war ragnarok video and now I've got this to watch too 🥳
Y'know you brought up a good point about gaming that you cab step back into, specifically with this game. I have an entire backlog of games I'll have to redo because I stopped a third of the way through and I have to relearn them, but I did stop playing Mirage for a long while and found that when I went back I could pick it up pretty easily (after ten minutes reading the tutorial, but it was better than most games I play and have to restart)
Great video keep up the good work GamingWins (I haven’t even started it im just pretending I already finished it)
Rip Aggro from Shadow of the Colossus, (although, technically Aggro did live the fall with the 16th colossus but still)
Are you on the right video? 😂
One of the skill set trees is literally called trickster it's pretty savage
I still can't believe they got Shohreh. Instantly recognizable and brilliant as always.
I actually loved playing mirage, the story was pretty good.
As for the assassins and templars I think while it shows that blindly following both ideals can be a detriment I interpret the ending as showing why the assassins win, because we see them change. Roshan could represent the blind faith that can lead to their downfall and after basim went to the cave we see the assassins open to change. They can change their ideals while the templars are dogmatic.
A detail I absolutely love is that Basim's voice gets deeper and more raspy as the game goes on.
I loved Valhalla despite its flaws, and I couldn't wait to learn more about Basim in Mirage. I wasn't disappointed :D
Honestly i do like how games like Mirage are showing the bad and the good of both sides, but I really want to see a modern assassin game that has to deal with the masquarade both sides hide behind in their shadow war coming undone by a third group, maybe the initiates? Or erudito? Or another group entirely who seek to end both groups for good and let the people decide themselves what they want. If i recall right, there was a cut post credits scene that hints at something called "the great shift" which ubisoft cut from Mirage, makes me wonder what they got cooking up for modern times now.
And yet, you haven't covered AC Origins.
I am sorry dor your loss, man.
Best wishes!!!
I wasn't a fan of it at first but as the story progressed i was able to fall in love with the style, gameplay, so much that i 100% the game all achievements and challenges done. Ive never got a 100% achievements before and it was so much fun.
I loved Mirage. It didn't need to be longer than it is, especially for the price they offered it for, and Abbasid Baghdad is a hugely dense, rich and beautiful worldspace to explore. The signature game mechanics returning is a big win I hope they build on, because the stalking zone-based stealth from Creed 3 onwards really wasn't the appeal of the series. I couldn't care less about the Isu/modern day bits of the story at this point, but there's no denying the artistry on display in any of the more recent Creeds.
I'm glad Mirage wasn't a DLC. Contextualising it alongside Valhalla, an already punishingly corpulent game, would have both make the structured experience unwelcome and failed to allow its fantastic and underexplored setting to take the spotlight.
One thing people forget too is that basim still cares about the creed tho even tho he doesn’t believe in it anymore. He still will help and assist he isn’t a bad guy. Just a man on a mission.
Damn, this was really comprehensive and well articulated! You are growing with your writing skills as the time goes on, which makes me more excited for the future as a sub 🎉
I've been waiting for this eagerly. I love you
Love the longer conclusions btw
Mirage honestly might be my fav AC game next to black flag
Another good comparison with DLC to full game would be with Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. It was originally gonna be a FC3 DLC, but it was turned into the wonderful '80s sci-fi acid trip that is Blood Dragon. It's kinda short, you can pretty much speedrun the game in about six hours. It'll always remain a favorite, and if you ever review it, I hope you'll find the reasons I love it as well.
Saints Row 4 as well
The community was already split. Mirage had zero bearing on that. One thing we can all agree on was the $40 price point being a step in the right direction. Glorified DLC Comparison being MW3 thay was sold for $70-100 setting a new industry standard, making even Tekken 8 think $100 was fair to ask for. Smh
The pre-existing camps of AC fans still around are:
1) they buy every installment and don't care as long as they get to parkour around with drippy outfits, no matter the cost.
2) they only got into this series for pseudo-historical settings and getting lost in the myths and legends of the time. They enjoy their time with Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla alike with valid criticisms that aren't utterly fun-ruining.
3) they aren't enjoying anything since Brotherhood or Black Flag but they keep buying out of FOMO. Bitching and complaining about anything that wasn't in the original Desmond storyline. They hate Layla, her team, every new environment, the rpg elements, having a game be "too long," etc.
So my first AC Game was Odyssey and then Vahalla. I really loved Odyssey one of my favorite gaming experiences from the last console generation and when I went back to try and play Black Flag later on...I hated it. But I guess there was always this tension because I recognized that making a historical fiction game like AC into an RPG is a really neat concept, it also kind of a contradiction and a big risk. And I came to consider and realize and talk with people that a lot of purists of the series really didn't like the RPG format. I ultimatley did...but I've come to understand the point a lot more.
So enter Mirage. A game that promised to return to its roots, focus on stealth, and start to go away from my favorite gaming genre in RPGs. Given that the game I played, Black Flag, was something I really didn't enjoy the brief time I had with it...I was filled with trepidation. But, aside from this game being a DLC stuffed into a larger game it ended up really working for me and I ended up really enjoying the stealth, the story, and a bunch of the other things. So in the end I am reassured whether the AC series continues on this route or goes back to RPGs or tries some sort of hybrid approach...I think I will enjoy it either way. Though I would prefer my almost 70 dollar games to be on the longer side, but that's just me.
What a great video, I love it
I've played ever AC game and made sure to finish Valhalla's DLC before this game came out.
First off, I really enjoyed the gameplay. The missions were all good as a minimum. Yeah, the combat could use a little more variety, but it did drive me to do more stealth.
The story was the biggest weakness in my eyes. I liked the twist of Nehal and was curious the whole time how the jinn would relate back to Loki, though the answer that it's his past torturer was a little weak for me. I liked the story during the game, and Basim's question of the Hidden Ones, it just needed some revisions to give it more impact.
But my favorite thing about the game is its brevity. I beat the game in about 20 hours, doing most of the side content. I think I'm only missing a handful of items to 100%. After Valhalla's 180 hours it took me to beat the base game and all its DLC. I loved how short this is.
I like big world games, like Syndicate and the RPGs, so I would love to see Ubisoft make both: release a big game next, then something smaller, back and forth, to keep both sides satisfied and keep us all from getting sick of one type of the other.
I dont think i noticed at first and maybe im seeing things, but when Basim said ill never see you again and Nehal shook her head no, Basim was doing the same thing at the same time
Honestly, having played some of the older AC games I really have lost some of the love I had for the newer ones. My entry to AC was Odyssey and I absolutely loved it, adored it. And I enjoyed Valhalla too, but going from the older games to Mirage I just wasn’t as happy. I really enjoy the more modern’ish stories, and just being a human with eagle vision
Played ODYSSEY 3000h 😂😂😂...
At the end he’s not Basim or Loki since the merge. He’s Boki or Lasim
As a person that actually liked the rpg games for the most part (really liked Odyssey and origins but got burnt out on the bloat of Valhalla) but also really liked the older games as well I thought that mirage did a good job of taking what I liked from both and combining them. I liked that the combat wasn’t amazing bc it really made you want to play stealthily and not just bum rush people with your god abilities like you could in odyssey and Valhalla, I hope the games in the future will build on this format and refine it even more
AC Mirage was the first RPG style AC for me, after years of being keen on the older ACs, with my last AC being Unity. At first I hesitated on buying it, but the idea and setting of Mirage looked promising enough for me to give it a go. It was a great decision, and I ended up loving the game, Basim's whole character, and even bought Valhalla as the RPG style really grew on me (minus the combat). I wish Ubisoft will continue on with Basim's story, if possible, even having it become the next trilogy of the series.
i will never understand how Valhalla has a higher Metacritic score than Mirage
Because Valhalla is the better game regardless of what the AC purists delude themselves into believing 💀
I hope you someday make a ”everything great about the return of the obra dinn” video
27:40 going off on memorie only i can remember rdr2, shadow of the colossus, ac mirage, and ghost of Tsushima. i can't remember anymore horse murder games and i never played kingdom hearts,so I don't know the reference 😅
FINALLY THE OCTOBER GAMES ARE COMPLETE
The upgrade of the AC1 gameplay loops shows how an AC1 remake could be. More variation and involvement in the investigations with a honed movement and combat system.
The bastards are remaking AC 4 instead
@@Greenguy502 Why? The visuals and gameplay mechanics have aged well in the last decade, plus it’s widely available on all current Gen platforms. This is Last of Us level re-releasing it because we can.
GamingWins, we NEED Hi-Fi RUSH!
Ubisoft Bordeaux did not disappoint with this game unlike a certain Ubisoft studio (Montreal)
No hate here, I love your videos, but just something I think you should pay attention to: your voice-over audio is at times a little soft. I increased my speaker volume just to make sure it wasn't on my end, but it seems that you end some of your sentences very softly, or some words just cut out. Its not that big of a deal, since you have subtitles, but I usually like to put your videos on while I'm doing something else and don't actively "watch" the video, and it was just a little frustrating at times because I had to rewind to the part I missed. Other than that, I love your work 👌
Last of us part 2 ( thank you for your positivity in that one btw) RDR 2,( and 1 and technically undead night mare) and ghost of tsushima. ( I love the beautiful thing that happens if you bow in front of the grave) 27:45 . Oh yeah, and now. Where my ⭐?
RDR2, Mirage, Ghost of Tsushima and I wanna Shadow of the Collosus? 🤔 that’s the only one with a horse that has a kingdom hearts like boss-scape 😂
You win! I love you because you cared enough to think about it!!
"Your horse will be with you your entire journey" biggest lie of GoT EVER
Dang, I didn't even know this had come out yet
Now... I wasn't ready to see this video today
Ali being the one's questioning Basim "freedom" for me was lowkey hypocrite. Didn't he have like leading a bunch of people himself? Didn't want to give him his info? Dead. I'd believe if you tried to distance yourself to the rebel group you'd be dead too.
Ironically, this concept of "freedom" spouted by such leader is very weird.
Cant wait for your alan wake 2 part 2. Another great video.
Day 2 of asking Gaming wins to make a video on God Of War : Ragnarok- Valhalla
trust me, its worth it
This game surprised me in the most positive way possible. I thought it'd be decent at best, but ended up having so much fun
What I like about Mirage is this is the first game where the player actually has to take time and messes up a lot to learn how to be an assassin/hidden one instead of it being instant. I love stories when total wimps like basim turn into ultimate immortal badasses. Basim, from a weak little pussy that would flinch at a threatening posture, piss his pants and run away crying turning into a confident calculated badass that would stand there and smirk at a powerful Viking coming at him, and fighting two at a time.
*mentions a lost friend* Let's all press F to pay respect to your friend June...
Please do the metal gear series I beg!!!
They should’ve just kept the RPG formula
Played ODYSSEY 3000h 😂😂😂...
34 seconds in, but YES LONG CONCLUSIONS
You forgot to win the final plot twist the Roshan's last name is Ibn la Ahad, which means that she is Altair's, Desmond's and William Miles ancestor!!!!!!!!!!!!
Actually, I don't think she is. "Ibn la Ahad" directly translates to "Son of nobody". Going in line with the Hidden One's/Assassin's shtick of "casting aside your old life", you cut ties to your family name as well, becoming a son of noone. Roshan's last name is actually BINT la Ahad. Meaning "Daughter of no one". Giving further credence to the "it's a name all Hidden Ones/Assassins adopt" thing
I would desperately love to see him go through the devil May cry franchise
I got some bad news you apprently missed about this being a bridge game with Basim taking a bigger role in the future...The next game is set in feudal Japan. Two player characters, and one of them is a first for the series, an actual historical figure. The black samurai Yasauke. One of the coolest men in history, who went from shipwrecked slave to rubbing shoulders with Oda Nobunaga.
but modern day still can be basim
@@kurhanchyk Modern day is just some random schlub player of Abstergo's games, or that chick from the recent ones.
@@brennanhearn6342 how do you know? was it leaked?
@@kurhanchyk No, but I've played the games that've already come out and I know how Ubisot are. They got tired of being interestig and telling good stories a while ago, keep all the good stuff in the past and don't even try anymore with the modern day stuf. It's been like that for a LONG time.
I loved the game it was such a blast to play
AC vid right after Alan Wake? Sweet. Also love how you critique a lot here too.
Ghost of Tsushima, RDR2, Mirage, and... Shadow of the Colossus?
So the torturer to my knowledge is a giant snake that torturers Loki after Odin locked him down there for (accidentally) killing Baldur
Dripping poison on his head yep.
Love your content 😊😊😊❤❤❤
Please do syndicate next
Please do 2009s Ghostbusters before the new movie comes out.
great video
After the end of the game, all the shadow people in the loading screen disappear as well. (Idk if he brought it up, I'm only a third through the video)
I’ll just be blunt. To me the character Nehal is just a watered down version of Reznov from BO1. Mirage itself can be hit or miss with some of its features and story elements but it’s a relatively solid ac game.
You could not have posted this video at a perfect timing because I was nearly done with Mirage. I saw you uploaded this and decided to finish the game so I can watch it. I finished it and then NEEDED to watch it because I didnt know what the fuck i just saw and needed more clarification. And then in the first 2 mins. When you mentioned LOKI I need EVEN MORE CLEARFICATION ON WHAT THE HELL YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT. So I watch a couple vids about that and then came back to watch the video. Overall , Good Video. It help me see on what mirage is cause I certainly did not know
Ngl I absolutely hate how they intertwined the eisu with the Norse mythology it seems lazy and a waste of potential building up their own kind of deity’s just ruined :(
Lemme just get this straight as someone who skipped Valhalla
Loki was an Isu who was imprisoned (and apparently gave his blood to Miles? Desmond or William?) (how does that timeline work?)
Basim is a decendant of Loki, so he has Isu DNA
The Jinni/Nehal/Loki are all the same person
At the end of the game it's no longer Loki OR Basim, but a fusion of the two
How did Roshan know about Basim's DNA tho?
Loki was an Isu who betrayed Odin and was imprisoned by him but escaped during the Great Catastrophe and used Isu tech to reincarnate himself like Aita.
Basim is Loki’s reincarnation but still his own person. He worked with Alethia to get the staff of Hermes to live forever. He then gave William Miles his blood to gain his trust.
By the end of the game Basim pretty much is just a hybrid of himself and Loki.
Tried my best to answer all of this but I’m not sure how Roshan knew. Probably because of the vault under Alamut.
Convinced to buy the game once i start finishing the other ones actively playing 3 to 4 assassins creed games lmao
Me*
I know Shadow of the Colossus is one of the other games but idk what the other games could be
I know it's not the best entry, but please make one for Assassin's Creed Syndicate. Also, Assassin's Creed Origins is worth a try, as the story is exceptionally good from what I've seen so far. No opinion on Odyssey or Valhalla, as I haven't gotten to those yet.
You are giving Loki and Bassim a bit too much credit with parts of this. Lets not forget that the Isu weren't the best of people themselves. And its thanks to them/their legacy that so many in the AC world have to deal with so much crap. Especially fighting over all the knowledge, ruins, artifacts, and their power. As we've seen, none of them have been that good or trustworthy. So what part of Bassim giving into or accepting Loki is a good thing?
Almost got this just because my name was the subtitle
The Last of Us, and both RDR games?
This... was a step in the right direction but we still got a long way to go for AC to be the king again of video game franchises
Would love it if you did the cybertron transformers games
😁 hello! Can you please do a gaming win for assassins creed origins?
You played all the netherealm Mk games and batman arkham games EGA on injustice please
Please do everything great about the portal games.
EGA _Spec Ops: The Line_ when?
You should do the For Honor story mode!
Horse deaths in RDR2, Ghost of Tsushima, and the Walking Dead?
I wanna see a Valhalla vid!!!
Can you do Remnant 2 video next?
Is Ghost of Tsushima one of the games our horse dies? Kaze 😭😭😭
Can you please do gears 2 soon?!
While I fully appreciate all your videos and the idea behind your channel, but I can't understand a 38 minutes win-video for AC Mirage 😢
It was by far the most boring AC story ever, dialogues were so bland and AI-like, and even the AMAZING (! Yes you heard it right) ending could not save it.
Mirage was one hell of a crazy ass game but I enjoyed it
It took until Valhalla for me to realize that all of these stories were connected. Granted it's because I've only ever played Black Flag, Syndicate, Origins, and Valhalla, with me picking up AC3 just recently and I've only ever beaten Black Flag. I only bought Valhalla because my love for Viking history and Norse mythology and culture (my ancestors were viking). But I actually got into the story and thought it was good from what I played (as I said, I haven't beaten it). The gameplay is kinda what kept me from finishing it as they changed the combat and it kinda feels boring now and the missions felt stale after awhile. Imo missions were summed up to "Evior, these people need your help. Oh you're done with that? Well these people need your help." It just got boring to me.
That being said I love the story but Black Flag is where I kinda stopped enjoying it (gameplay wise)
Can you do days gone?
*Loki and Basim are one... So Lasim?* 🤔
This was a fine return to form after the canon breaking games of Valhalla and Odyssey.
