  • So something a bit different. I wanted to test out some of the most popular Decal Solutions on the market. I have gone with Micro Sol and Set, Humbrol Decal Fix and finally AV Vallejo’s Decal Softener & Decal Fix.

    The idea is to test out these products on a variety of decals from different manufactures and see what works the best in any given situation.

    I will be honest I did have some preconception going into this with what would be the best product, but as you can see not all things turn out as I expected.

      Tbh I haven't seen that video. But thank you for the info. I know that sometimes the more you apply the better results.. And it also depends on the decal.

    Thank you for this video! I've been away from modelling for over 15 years and buying everything again. I was wanting to know the difference between all the products tested. It's made my mind up, its really nice to see the end results of printed decals.

    Thanks for doing such an in depth video. It's a great in helping me decide what to buy. Think I'll go with the Vallejo since its a bit cheaper to buy the 17ml bottle rather than a 30ml Micro. Don't do decals all that often but still nice to be able to when the project calls for it. Appreciate the video!

    Cheers for the review bud. I was looking for micro sol and set but can't get my hands on it locally. I should be able to get the Vallejo stuff easier.

    Excellent review.
    I've always used Micro Sol & Set. Ironically I've not made models during pandemic and the lids have 'rotted' so I've lost half a bottle of each. It's hard to get at times being a US product.
    I might give Vellejo a go🤔🤔

      Literally I haven't been on my bench in nearly a year. I still have a garden gnome sitting there that I started last summer. Just going back to work trying to make up that money that I wasnt making in lockdown. But I know when I do go back I will have so many spoiled products.

    Do you know if that blue micro set is going bad when it is older? I tried to aply dashboard decals. It reacted with the tamiya spraypaint.

    • @DisgruntledDuck
      @DisgruntledDuck  3 роки тому

      Has it reacted with the Tamiya spray before. I would not have thought it would go bad. did you varnish before applying the decals?

    Do you have to wait for decal fix to dry before applying the decal and after it’s on do you have to apply it on the top of the decal

    • @DisgruntledDuck
      @DisgruntledDuck  4 роки тому

      I let dry for at least 30 mins before applying. Once the decal is on I let it dry before applying anything else

      Can you use decal fix on old dried decals? I have a couple of projects where the decal doesn’t look good because it was before I knew about the product

  • @mikecavell5350

    Am I being picky but over the years I’ve used all the solutions used in this video and I had much better results because I don’t leave the decals for hours before working on them. I use the softener repeatedly until the decal sits into the model and only then do I leave to dry. It’s quicker and much more fun because you can see the results straight away. I realise you have to be very careful because the decals become very soft and tear easily but working the decal is part of the fun and I firmly believe modelling should be fun. Also and I know we shouldn’t criticise but its ‘anything’ not ‘anythink’ sorry but it’s just wrong. Apart from that, good video’s with some good advise.

    • @DisgruntledDuck
      @DisgruntledDuck  3 роки тому

      Thanks, for the feedback. I went with what instructions I could find online. If another way works for you, fantastic. Just for me if I use the softener too soon they don't stick as well.

    • @alexonyootewb
      @alexonyootewb 2 роки тому

      Worth adding for anyone reading this, I DONT find your method better at all Mike. If I start working with the softener immediately I will often end up moving the transfer with the pressure needed to press and hold the transfer into the creases. As with the video, I fix the transfer into place and once fully fixed I then smooth it around the geometry of the model. If it works for you that's great, even more so if it's more fun, but IME it does not give better results.

    • @DisgruntledDuck

      @@andweebh6894 @Andweeb H I would definitely say that it is not having a gloss finish to apply. That has caused the problem. If it is a case of air bubble you can score the decals with a craft knife and use more solution.
