The natural progression of a wizard from someone that stands at the back needs to be protected at all costs, to the person that can walk into a castle and barely take a scratch whilst painting walls in blood and fire. Always makes me laugh that paladins have a evil class premade, but a wizard is just a wizard... Should all be burnt like a steak
Jester actually befriending the guard she charmed and crying for him instantly became a favorite moment in the entire campaign. I love how you captured the contrast between that and the horror/tension of the other room. Perfect 👌
I'm curious what that guard thinks of Jester after the spell wore off. Obviously they did report, as per their duty, what had happened. On one hand she, in his perspective, seemingly showed genuine care for his safety and tried to make sure he didn't get himself killed by her friends. On other hand there is what happened to his own co-workers/friends. So I'm between "Thank you for preventing THAT from happening to me", "DEAR GOD STAY AWAY YOU MONSTERS", to maybe "I WILL AVENGE THEE"

To me the perspective on just Caleb's mouth as he Messages "Sarsaparilla" to the rest of the gang really does convey how that while yes, Caleb is healing, simply being at the sanitorium had brought back a slew of trauma that took form in that lethal, almost unhinged, calm as he made his way through to the Nein's end goal.
In all honesty they are kinda the bad guys in this situation they could've done the whole thing differently but they all kinda chose the scorched earth route
@@catherinekress2138 you know given trent's interest in caleb there's a good chance he could have asked him and gotten them without having kill simple kinda innocent guards in such brutal fashion under gise of them being the good guys and the assembly being the bad guys, good guys want to preserve life not take it needlessly
Some people forget Bren was trained to be a Volstrucker, they aren't brainwashed to hold back. That and being back at the Asylum again, he probably knew there would be a torture chamber there, he was venting his anger and frustration at the Assembly. Doesn't justify his actions but explains Liam's roleplaying of Caleb's headspace.
In Caleb's mind, anyone willingly working under the Assembly (that knows what it is that they do) probably don't even deserve being juiced like a fruit. Caleb doesn't think he's a good person because of where he comes from and what he does, and when he sees others being COMPLACENT with the regrets he has, he doesn't tend to feel remorse for them. The only exceptions we've seen so far are Astrid and potentially Eodwulf, and those are his childhood friends/lover(s?) that he bonded with through trauma.

That's the beauty of this... The crew started out as 'shit people' as Caleb would have put it. They killed and stole without much of a remorse. it was often enough Molly that would show compassion to their enemies. The others were much more murderhobo about the whole thing. But they became much more concerned about doing the right thing afterwards... 'leave every town better than when we arrived' became their go to mentality. Now that they are going after Lucien, they have had to go back to a much more brutal method.

Oh man, when Matt name dropped the guard they'd just violently murdered, I died a little inside. XD Such a brilliant scene. Amazing animatic too btw, I really loved the silence in the corridor when Caleb and Veth were sneaking - it's often difficult to picture quiet scenes when you watch the show as there's always someone muttering at the table or something, so that cranked the tension up immediately.
I loved this entire sequence, between Caleb's sith Lord madness, beau's accidental torture kill, ingest your slow losing her mind due to everything around her it just made for a great scene

Gosh, this was so terrifying and wonderful at the same time! PS. To be honest, I liked Cymie a lot, but the fact that he informed Trent about everything makes me be a bit angry with him, I love how Matt played with it
Also, we don't know if he actually told Trent willingly. It may have been charmed out of him because A) it's Trent. And B) It may have been 'faster' to force the answer out rather than wait for it.
He was just doing his job. Plus, he was basically mind controled by Jester, so when it wore off, he ran to get his boss, who was unfortunately iccky thong. That said, we don't know what was going through his mind. Could have been thankful for Jester keeping him from dying or vowed revenge for all we know.
this is such an amazing animatic and episode but i love when they get to the end and a lot of the torture items are there and trent's like they look familiar huh and calebs like yup and they're all What?? (my no mercy loving lives on)
The characters of this campaign are so layered, so profound. All having been hurt in different forms, finding each other and creating this beautiful, adventurous support system.
Gosh I was actually afraid of Caleb in this episode. It took me a bit to remember that from his perspective... he's hurting far beyond description. But still I was literally Jester during this episode.
The party hit those levels that let them wipe small villages off the face of the map. Caleb is better equipped for that than most. It’s frightening to watch the precious hobo-wizard turn to an arcane caster capable of leveling a battalion.
I just want to say, I really love this noir, darker cinematic animation style. I think it fits super well and I haven't seen anything like it in other critical role animatics. keep up the amazing work! :)
