I've a DL1000AL8. I think you saved more money than I did. The Strom factory tapered control bars rotate enough to not need the risers for a 73" guy in the right standing posture.
I bought the bike then went out on some gnarly stuff to see if the motorcycle could be rode hard. Lots of negative stuff on the web about our cheap Stroms. Must be folks with no skills.
I decided it was capable after I cracked the peg mounting plate and snapped half a clutch lever off. Added parts in order of importance (Not counting peg plate nor clutch lever):
A: 50/50 Trailmax Missions for longevity. Front tire doesn't fling mud below 6MPH, which sucks. Mud donuts=zero bike traction, but might put you in it. Get some real tires.
B: Bought some scrap wide pegs, drilled and dremeled them so I could bolt to OEM peg bottom. Never moved or got loose in three years. And I'm 300lbs. So that worked. Homemade topper.
    C: BarkBuster Storms
    D: SW-MOTech crash bars.
    E: SW-MOTech bash plate.
    F: R&G radiator guard.
G: Ravetech headlamp grill 'cause my kid likes to roost the old man.
About three hours to install it all, not counting grinding the pegs.
Yer out NW Coast. Nice area. I'm out NE Coast. I look to be 20-30 years older than you guys, except the guy with the excellent choice of high visibility yellow. Maybe.

Great vid! Excellent recommendations, wish I had looked at Heed when I got crash bars for my 650. I did get a Ravetech skid plate, though, Barkbuster Storm handguards, SW Motech crash bars. The quality, materials and strength of the Ravetech skid plate are outstanding and I would recommend their products to anyone that asked. The footpeg conversion is a great idea, had never seen that one before.
BTW, You can make things a bit more user friendly by linking to the products you're showing in the description, or at least link to the mfr's main page.

Good vid ! I Just Got a 2018 strom 1000 ..stoked with the bike ..
I'm currently looking at bike protection products for it.
I really Like those engine guards.. and bash plate ...good tips for your investment...my bike came with big chunky aftermarket knights foot pegs that are really wide n grippy for standing up ! Could use a bar riser ..

Thanks for the comment! Yeah most of these parts would be a direct fit to your bike as the 2016 to 2018 didn't have much in the way of structural changes, just different beaks.

Hi. Number 6 would be a GIVI windscreen to remove the buffeting at speed.

I am going to have to do a comparison video as I have yet to get ahold of a GIVI wind screen for this bike.

Ravtech is shit. You get what you pay for. I have my Vstrom 1000 fitted with SW Motek and German crash guards. Don’t go cheap if you are going around the world.

Funny I've had zero problems with my setup. Yet one of my close friend smashed the case on his vstrom with a sw motek skid plate installed and was stranded on a mountain. If your gonna make it around the world consider more than the name...

Had an sw motek on my last bike and I still broke a hole in the case due to the small size of the plate.
