I'm one of those people never heard this song and paid attention to radio tightly, throughout the years. the radio stations in Northern Ohio must not have latched on to it however it was a pretty big hit😮
They sure don't make great music like this anymore. John Stewart was one-of-a-kind. He is still missed by everyone who loves true musical craftsmanship.
John didn't need Stevie Nicks to ignite a room - he did it on his own many times. I saw him on numerous occasions over the years, usually at small intimate venues in the LA area. He never failed to blow me away with his incredible songs and musicianship. He was a national treasure who should be much more widely known than he is.
I'm a huge Stevie and Lindsey fan, love Fleetwood Mac. I heard this on the radio when it first came out and instanly knew Stevie was singing and Lindsey was playing the guitar. What a great album, John Stewart was a treasure!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I loved this song...it was 1979 and I was 16. Brings back so many memories!!!! This was my favorite tune by John. Thank You!!!!
when music was music. when it touched our hearts, made us laugh.made us cry. turned us inside out and left us begging for more. i was born in 1950 and even tho i'm getting old i'm grateful that i didn't miss a thing!
Always reminds me of my freshman year at UF. Started hearing it right after I got to Gainesville. One radio station in town played it and it was gone in a flash . Always thought it shoulda been a huge hit.
Driving with my husband as young newlyweds in the early morning in our new truck up bear creek road and summit road in the Santa Cruz mountains! Just love this!
Wells Martin, me too. Fire up your hearth, oh the wind is gettin cold now It always gets cold for the riders of the night You carry that scar when ya know what lonesome is Lookin for a home like a bird in flight. Thank you Lindsey Buckingham. I had the privilege to see your concert at the Stiefel.
Thanks for posting this song! It got me through, when I lost my lady, " in the sun' back in the 1980's Great, great song by a great individual Long live Stewart's songs!
The one album I ever paid $100 for was The Monkees' "Changes" vinyl…and of course John wrote their "Daydream Believer"! I'd pay plenty for this album on CD!
You will NEVER hear me say this about ANY other song EVER: I DEFINITELY prefer the re-recording on "Airdream Believer" to this. We played this all the time on WTCS when it was out and it is unquestionably one of Mr. Stewart's finest songs. Whereas the difference to me is the fact that here is his example of writing and singing a great song. The "Airdream Believer" version is his example of OWNING a great song that he has written...
John Stewbum. Ya know he DOES look like Gerry Shandling. I always think of this song at the first bad weather day when the snow and freezing rain is hitting my windshield when he talks of the wind getting colder
You slightly misquoted the middle part of "July, You're a Woman"...it went "And I have not been known as the Saint of San Joaquin and I'd just as soon right now pull on over to the side of the road and show you what I mean." It doesn't contain "so," and you left out some lyrics. I have been a huge John Stewart fan since the 1970s, a fan of every song he ever recorded, but that lyrics portion is perhaps my least favorite of all his lyrics.
@@bobdavis4848 since I have not been known as the saint of anywhere-lol. I really love that song with all its crazy lyrics. I was born in July and someone used to sing that to me a long time ago.
@@cherrieowens1 Cherrie: Thanks for your great reply! I will say the lyric sounds honest and may be about a character John is playing or himself. He was a great songwriter. I had a great time at concerts of him. I was born on July 14th. It was very nice someone sang you "July You're a Woman" long ago. I am curious what made you choose "Lost Her In The Sun" to tell the story of a song a decade earlier's effect on your life; do you see connection between the two songs? Stay safe! :-)
@@bobdavis4848 Bob, I listened to this song and yes they are similar. I actually had "July you're a woman from a radio station. on 45! The one who sang this song to me moved away and that was it. Later he died very young. It was 1969 a time ever bit as turbulent as now.
I saw him on television with the Kingston Trio, and I think with Buckingham & Nicks--certainly with Lindsey Buckingham on a special about the Trio, I think. But, the album I really loved was his first after the Trio, with Buffy Ford, _Signals Through the Glass_. I wonder if there's youtube footage of him performing with Buffy. I think they toured the country with Bobby Kennedy or something at one point. Of course in his last years he went back to recording with Buffy some, and they had a group, Darwin's Army, and Collector's Choice put out a couple of albums or at least distributed them. I'll have to check out YOuTube some more.
Wow, gods of UA-cam, thanks! ua-cam.com/video/VU2kkDn9y30/v-deo.html and it was only just posted last month. And there's clearly more, and Buffy has apparently recorded some solo work, maybe in the wake of her husband's death. More to investigate.
John was a kind of eccentric dude... he had lots of little sayings and tics... he had an amazing wit and sense of humor, but he also had a tremendous sense of how absurd the 'mega' record business was and how having a 'hit' was more important than the beauty or power of a song... bombs away dream babies is kind of an absurdist way of saying, "okay, well, we'll give the 'starmaking machinery behind the popular song' a shot with my deepest most compelling thoughts and feelings.... for the record buying public's pleasure!
Sounds like Johnny Cash singing with the Carpenters. Poor John Stewart, if he had only borrowed his pal Roy Orbison's sunglasses he never would have lost her..
Being a Springsteen fan, I couldn't help noticing that there are parts of this song that sound like the Boss's "Badlands". Anyone else hear it? I'm thinking "lost her in the sun" was published first.
I'm a huge fan of both, but I had never thought to connect the two songs until you mentioned it. Bombs Away Dream Babies came out in 1979, and I think Badlands came out after that, around 1981. But the similarities are definitely there. And Bruce was always an admirer of John. So you might very well be right in terms of the mutual influence.
@@chuckhildebrand7160 Although I am a bigger fan of John Stewart than Bruce Springsteen, I think I should point out that "Badlands" was released in 1978.
It always amazes me how many people have never heard this song before. It is absolutely amazing!
Never heard it before, and I loved the song Gold. Midnight Wind was pretty good too. This one not as good but pretty decent.
I never heard it before until a year ago great song
Agree

Didn't get a lot of radio play in my area, although I discovered it later and have heard it many times since.
They sure don't make great music like this anymore. John Stewart was one-of-a-kind. He is still missed by everyone who loves true musical craftsmanship.
John Stewart did not get the credit he deserved, he was a beautiful talent and completely ignited the room when he sang with Stevie Nicks....

Beautiful ballad. The American music world misses John for his voice and musical talent.

Another Kennedy song written and sung with love and gratitude for the vision and hope they inspired. ua-cam.com/video/t-gQoyorFc4/v-deo.html
Amazing Backbreaker Ballad from a late great Folkie Giant from The Kingston Trio in John Stewart! Lyrics that carve up a Human Soul.🎤🎹🎸🎼😇❤🌹😔B.W.

Forgot about this song. I can't believe it. Great song by a great song writer.
Great timeless stuff 👍🏻👍🏻
his last top 40 hit, reaching #34 on the pop charts in 1980!!!
It should have been A TOP TEN HIT!

The 'quad-skip'?
It got a lot of airplay in Panama City / Panama City Beach area radio stations at the time… as well as “Gold”
I even liked him when he was part of the Kingston Trio back when
Love it 2023

Beautiful song
Young need to learn from this man. He has a message and meaning in this song and all of his work.
This little know album is better than any album released in the last thirty years
Lost Her In The Sun brings back so many fantastically great memories.
I love this song and album, I think in 1982 I bought this album in a Pharmacy on a bargain bin table for 49cents bran new. This whole album is great.
This is possibly the best song ever written ....

Cool trivia factoid: John Stewart wrote the Monkees' #1 hit "Daydream Believer."
Yes, indeed, but not the changing of "funky" to "happy," which John thought made no sense.
The ONE CD that I EVER paid $100 for. :)

The one album I ever paid $100 for was The Monkees' "Changes" vinyl…and of course John wrote their "Daydream Believer"! I'd pay plenty for this album on CD!
"I learned to love the night, cuz the light is gonna get ya....."
Those lyrics have resonated for decades...cuts right to the heart of the human experience...
And you can hear every word

Lindsey Buckingham collaborated on this album. Great music.
I heard John say at a concert that Lindsey wasn't around that much during the the making of the album.
awesome song off a great album with collaboration from buckingham and nicks rip John
He wrote most of the Kingston Trio songs...Rest in peace John Stewart
Searching for the song since years !!!! Thanks for posting. You made may day

still a great song
Chris Whelan is the perfect touch on this song with his vocals... saw him with john many times... great bass player and singer!
what a voice!
*****+ A classic.
great song
Sophmore in HS back when this was in the top 40....loved it then and still sounds great 38 years later (:
Very underrated.
Great song. Anyone else notice how the melody and beat have a resemblance to Badlands by Springsteen? Badlands was ‘78, this was ‘79
Great song. It brings back some good and not so good memories.
I have this album. Paid $0.99 for it brand new at Target in 1980. TEN

I like the music they play on the carrabean cruize

Yesterday at a thrift shop I found an autographed Kingston Trio LP with John Stewart... for only $1!

A change of pace for me but a nice song, I got the album just for the GOLD song, but found some good tunes on the album (I was 16 in 1979 too!).
Sounds like Johnny Cash great
RIP John.
thank GOd the original --finally -thank you.
almost sounds like a mellow version of badlands. very much like midnight wind
Check out the Phoenix Concerts, great album
I lost Nicole in the sun
This sounds a whole lot like Springsteen's Badlands
Where did he lose her again..?
this is the answer song to L A International Airport
I think Greater Pittsburgh International Airport actually. ..
Now... can someone explain the reason behind the baffeling title "Bombs Away Dream Babies"?

Actually, it's something Dave Guard used to say. John picked up on it.
@pappy15445 Was thinking the same thing....Figured being a hit (though not a big one) that the original would be on here...lol
