I absolutely love this channel it just brings me back to when I was 13 and 14 helping my next door neighbor install his amps and subs and learning and just thinking I cannot wait to turn 16 start driving and get my own and the rest is history here I am 36 still installing for myself and friends lol my neighbor had one of these hooked up to 2 12’ volcano red labels and I remember how hard it hit in his blazer
you probably dont care but if you're stoned like me during the covid times you can watch all of the latest movies on instaflixxer. Been binge watching with my brother during the lockdown xD
Also love the vids. You are a boss buddy. Almost nobody in fact I'm gonna say it. Nobody has put more amps on the Dyno than you have and brought so much truth to this industry. Amplifiers are basically very cheap power supplies. The profit margin is huge. The better the power supply the more it cost. Longevity and better products to ensure that longevity cost more money. Don't get it twisted though the sum of these parts even on a 20,000 watt amp are in the tens of dollars. The money they need to recoup is in the design. That being said clone amps and boards are abundant and still cost a pretty penny. This man right here is giving you a good starting point on what brands are and aren't ripping you off. Amazing work.
Thanks Danny Caballero ! I recently tested another Zed, the Zeus VII. Wasn't sure what to think based on the other Zed amps I've tested. I won't spill the beans, but will say it was "interesting"...
Stephen Mantz - Zed Audio. Famous amplifier designer from the 80's and 90's still makes amps today. His old school amps are known for their power and smooth sound.
ohh yeah! I remember these from Car audio mags back in the day. These were more affordable than soundstream, orion etc.... awesome vid and test as usual
I had a MTX Terminator 225 back in around 1994. It was rebuilt by a friend of mine. It was pretty impressive (impressive for rated power) on a pair of JL Audio 10w1's.
I had several of these in the 90’s. Although they used the same board is as the 400, the 400 would run all day at 2 ohm and never have a problem. At 1 ohm I always had problems with the 50shc going into protect. I owned approximately 15 of this series of crunch amps and the 600 and 425 seemed to be the most reliable and least finicky about voltage drop.
I think that red PG MS Series was originally ordered by my friend Nick for install into his Chevy Nova. He worked at Audio Communications In Monroeville and had a full Plexi enclosure and and amprack with all the wiring going through lexan tubes. There was a total of 4 Red MS series in the install. I haven’t seen those amps since the system was dismantled around 1994.
The previous owner said it was in a 1994 Celica he bought and everything was completely hidden. He didn’t even find the amps until years after owning the car. There were 2 of them custom for this system.
Still have my 'ol girl the V600 I bought around '99. Been in about 7 vehicles and 1 car fire (spread from another car). Still use it but she's obviously tired and just can barely push 2 ohms anymore. I may be getting that JP23 you tested a few videos ago.
I have a crunch 2000.1D amp and it seems like crunch are not so good anymore. I used to run an older amp and loved it but the new one I have,,, not real happy with it. Wish I would have found ur channel before I got a crunch, I think I would have gone with skar audio. Keep up the great work
Would be really cool if you could find a PPI Pro Art 50 to dyno. The internals look similar to the A600 but I believe they run a lower rail voltage. Had one years back and sold it after changing system plans. Never got to hear it but did look inside and it was nice.
The old school amps had such a clean sound and most were rated at 60-100 x2 .These junk coming out today aren’t even close in sound.Back than a 60 watt Harmon was 600 bucks and would rattle the room.Theres a big difference in sound and just pure disaster. How can we test sound quality today?
Nice, I've been getting my hands on a lot of these old school amps for cheap, too bad most of them are not fully functional because they're so old. I need to learn how to do repair...
BigDWiz Could you please tell us the colors of wire for each channel? Im thinking about getting one of these but the guy who is selling it doesn't know what color wires mean what???
Looks like some one re-capped it....I wonder whooo? I got the same numbers as well but my power supply back then was quite smaller than what it is now. I also made some vids when testing it but they are NO where near like BigDWiz (edited and high quality). Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the comment. I'd like to see more amp tests on UA-cam, the fancy editing is not needed. You have to start somewhere. To me the content is more important, I try to keep the editing to a minimum.
So as an old school researcher I have a couple questions. If it is a zed amp why doesn't it say zed audio on the board, they all do. Two why does it act like a regulated power supply amp, not a usual design by zed. I'm not saying this isn't a zed amp, hell it has ceramic gate resisters which is a bingo when looking at a board and identifying a zed amp. What is going on here?
Hey my frend BdWz ! What amp u recommend me for 10 speakers 6 -6.5 orion 1000 what’s pair 6x9 500 wtz 2 tweeters 4” 350 wtz/? I buy a crunch 4000 whatts now listen your videos I specters just the half of the power 1800-2000 wtz/ what else I need !
Is that many zero's even possible in THD ? I feel like that might be a bit off. Unless it's literally the best SQ amp ever made. I could be way wrong. I don't know really. Just seems incredible to me.
That’s how they got away with rating cheater amps back in the day. Give you a power output number at some crazy low thd and then at a realistic 1% thd the amp did 2-4 time it’s rated power. It was strictly for competition purposes, as all competitions had wattage classes. I always competed in the pro 301-600 class meaning the total 4 ohm power rating of all my amps had to add up to between 301-600 watts. So this being a 50 watt amp I technically could have ran 12 of them.
I hate that I didn't get video of the current pull! Doh!! And the amp has gone back to it's owner. I'm doing current pull with all the other amps I'm testing...
I get that this amp was considered a cheater. They only claimed 50 watts right ? Less even maybe. Boy did you pay for that 400 watts. .00015 thd until you go 3 watts over rated then it's 1.0 THD. In my opinion. For what this amp cost at the time. It was trash. If anyone could compare this amp to others at the time price per actual wattage and thd that would be great. But I'm personally thinking this amp is garbage.
Perhaps there was something wrong with this amp (capacitors, soldering etc) cause Germans got their test with lot more power: www.amp-performance.de/1265-Crunch-CR50SHC.html
Big d could you point me to someone who could tell me how to figure up how to build a bandpass wall in an extended cab truck?or anybody that reads this Please, I can't afford to pay for the knowledge and I doubt big d won't answer any how he is asking for money on here lol he probly ain't gonna help me out for free nohow lol
Hexibase does profesional custom case designs. He really knows his stuff. I think it's free if you buy a speaker from them otherwise it is 100 buck i think. But absolutely worth it. Check his youtube chanel.

Gotta love those knobs where you dont have to fiddle with usin a screwdriver on. Wish theyd bring that back
you probably dont care but if you're stoned like me during the covid times you can watch all of the latest movies on instaflixxer. Been binge watching with my brother during the lockdown xD
@Louis Bronson Definitely, I've been watching on instaflixxer for years myself :)

Not too bad at all. A great example of the build quality and reliability of ZED amps. Great video as always BigD!
Thanks Danny Caballero ! I recently tested another Zed, the Zeus VII. Wasn't sure what to think based on the other Zed amps I've tested. I won't spill the beans, but will say it was "interesting"...
Why are certain amps from crunch and hifonics referred to as Zed amps? Who is Zed?
ZED is a build house that made & designed amps for numerous companies. HiFonics, ESX, Autotek & Rôdeck to name a few.
Stephen Mantz - Zed Audio. Famous amplifier designer from the 80's and 90's still makes amps today. His old school amps are known for their power and smooth sound.
Wasn't there a guy named Zeff who designed amps around early 80? I think it was Zapco or something like that.
These are cool videos Dereck I've watched this one a couple times lol old school never gets old 😎
ohh yeah! I remember these from Car audio mags back in the day. These were more affordable than soundstream, orion etc.... awesome vid and test as usual
Thanks for the comment!

And love how the output is so different between his amps
love the little touches inside. this is a big mutha
Yeah, and it's not really that big! I love his humor though, Mr. Mantz that is.
I love the look of a big old amp but it always amazed me Rockford was competitive with so much smaller of a footprint
👌😬👍

I got a old school Orion amp 800.

BigDWiz is the man!
Awesome Video As Always My Friend!
Thanks John Work ! Not the most exciting video from a wattage output perspective, but finding out what these cheater amps do is interesting.
Man, this brings back fond memories! I used to have a Crunch 250 and it was INSANE! I ended up selling it... :( BAD bad decision!
Yeah boi!
Still have my 'ol girl the V600 I bought around '99. Been in about 7 vehicles and 1 car fire (spread from another car). Still use it but she's obviously tired and just can barely push 2 ohms anymore. I may be getting that JP23 you tested a few videos ago.

Great video! I had this amp and it was a beast. Good sound as well!
Back then, any amp Zed designers lived up to his name.
Oh 2 channel.
Excellent work
Thank you sir, and thanks for letting me borrow your amp(s)!
Im waiting for my favorite brand ECLIPSE FUGITZU TEN....bring a video about
That amps so damn expensive back then, shit even today!
I bet with a little more current it would do more power....good stuff
Not really. I can supply up to 320A at 14V. This is all the amp has in it.
I wanna get another old skool amp. Had a crunch powerzone 1500.1 it was a good amp
Would be really cool if you could find a PPI Pro Art 50 to dyno. The internals look similar to the A600 but I believe they run a lower rail voltage. Had one years back and sold it after changing system plans. Never got to hear it but did look inside and it was nice.
Was gonna say this amp was made one day before I was born but I forgot in the USA that means the 2nd of July rather than the 7th of February :-( lol
You can flip the date if it makes the video more special to you ;-) . We are strange here in the US, so don't mind us. lol
I would like to seen the crunch z350 still one my all time favorite
😬👍

Thanks for another great video!!
Thank you for watching and commenting!
Nice, I've been getting my hands on a lot of these old school amps for cheap, too bad most of them are not fully functional because they're so old. I need to learn how to do repair...
The ones that were taken care of usually still work fine. These amps were built to last, unlike many of the ones sold today
***** And low impedances for long periods of time. lol
BigDWiz Could you please tell us the colors of wire for each channel? Im thinking about getting one of these but the guy who is selling it doesn't know what color wires mean what???
I used to own a isis and a Ulysses I wish you would test those amps especially the isis
Interesting result Derek. I have seen test sheets on these that take them up to 670 into 1 ohm mono at 14+volts. Was this one 100%?
Looks like some one re-capped it....I wonder whooo? I got the same numbers as well but my power supply back then was quite smaller than what it is now. I also made some vids when testing it but they are NO where near like BigDWiz (edited and high quality).

I'll get those numbers I got for this amp...I wrote down the amperage the amplifier was drawing at full power before clipping at 1ohm.
So as an old school researcher I have a couple questions. If it is a zed amp why doesn't it say zed audio on the board, they all do. Two why does it act like a regulated power supply amp, not a usual design by zed. Good questions. Have to ask the man, Mr Mantz
When do you plan on testing the memphis amp? I think I used to have one. Tha ks
I have one that shawn king modified for me i would love to find out how much is putting out now!!😎
ShawnK is da man
Nice vid
I had this amp with 4 6.5 inch crunch subs.
Great job buddy.
Thanks Leo! I bet your 50SHC does better! (REAL cheater!)
Hey big D would u able to name all the amp that can do .5ohm close to being stable?
I'm sure I could name most of the ones rated for 0.5...now whether they will handle the 0.5 resistive load is another question altogether...
Is that many zero's even possible in THD ? I feel like that might be a bit off. Unless it's literally the best SQ amp ever made. I could be way wrong. I don't know really. Just seems incredible to me.

Big d can u tell what's the rms on the bd 1501 old Rockford Fosgate
Very colorful guts. 👌
Makes you wonder why they didn't do plexi bottoms on these amps? They do look great!
I've been looking for a 50shc those do not pop up at all.
Im just wondering why did zed buy a zed co
What was the amperage pull?
I hate that I didn't get video of the current pull! Doh!! And the amp has gone back to it's owner. I'm doing current pull with all the other amps I'm testing...
i had eight 12" crunch subs in a transam.
Sweetness
Crunch before maxxsonics. Zed audio built.
Crunch sure has gone down hill since the 90s
At one time they were made in hueytown Alabama.
Man those amp were expensive back then you can by amp with that power for under 100 buck now a day
I get that this amp was considered a cheater. They only claimed 50 watts right ? Less even maybe. Boy did you pay for that 400 watts. .00015 thd until you go 3 watts over rated then it's 1.0 THD. Try pyramid artic serie
Perhaps there was something wrong with this amp (capacitors, soldering etc) cause Germans got their test with lot more power:
www.amp-performance.de/1265-Crunch-CR50SHC.html
The mtx terminator was a cool looking amp, disappointing power output. 😊👍
Agreed
so Crunch went from an actually decent brand downhill to overpriced junk
i have an amp like this that says its 80 watts and only has a 5 amp fuse i want to sell it but i dont know what it is worth
chad smith Bring it to the metal recycler. You might get $1 for it. Maybe not.
Ebay is your friend
zed audio tec
Do a California profile amp lol
Here is the version after the white ones 1999 Profile 1200sx Amp Dyno Test ua-cam.com/video/-Baav5dVi30/v-deo.html

Hexibase does profesional custom case designs. He really knows his stuff.
I think it's free if you buy a speaker from them otherwise it is 100 buck i think.
But absolutely worth it. Check his youtube chanel.
What happened to Zed industries?@BigDWiz
