- Judy Collins sings "My Father" in this 2002 concert at the Wolftrap Farm performing arts center in Virginia. Judy first recorded this song for her 1968 album "Who Knows Where The Time Goes?" This performance clip is taken from her DVD titled "Judy Collins Live At Wolftrap."
I remember the first time I saw her in concert--in 1972--and my life was changed forever. I've been to every one of her concerts in Minnesota since then. It is now 2021.
one of the best songs ever written
I have loved Judy's voice and Judy since I first heard her sing in 1965! What a talent she has!
After all these years, she brings me unbridled joy. Nobody like her then, and especially since.
nothing else to say but, "god bless you, judy collins. you have been and continue to be an inspiration to me in my own career." a consummate musician, composer and performer.
Perfection personified. Exquisite, tender, sweet, memorable and... utterly moving!
This is truly poetry with music
Saw her with Stephen Stills approx 1 year ago in San Juan Capistrano. She was 78, and her voice is still perfect. Every time she sang, I cried.
Yes, her voice is so pure, makes the tears come every time.
Sheer genius. Speechless. Incomparable.
OMG! Her voice is just like it was decades ago.
It's actually much better, if that is possible.
judy collins is my favorite.
grew up with her music
such a beautiful lady, song, and voice!
Like many other songs I know as covers by a variety of artists, I came upon this through the 4AD collective, This Mortal Coil. Well, better to discover beautiful music in any way, which leads me to the original.
This song is so pretty, and Judy's voice is magnificent!
Her voice and music are so beautiful and compelling!
I am also in awe of "Suite Judy Blue Eyes" by CSNY -- the music they must have made together would have been awesome.
So very beautiful.
Always brings me to tears.
This is so beautiful!
Why does she always have to change songs when they were perfect. Love the OLD way she sang this. Beautiful songs don't need to be changed.
Her voice is actually MUCH better on this version, and by the way, a true artist never does a song the same way twice.
Just wonderful. I saw you Ms Judy at you Carnegie Hall debut. Memories as such never fad
SO lovely and touching
pure Celtic voice.... anyone who hasn't that ancestry can't sing this ethereally.
"Gordon Hall" Genetics. That must be it.
warm and loving as always. love her.
I’ve bought a few of her CDs now after listening to this song. She has such a pure voice and is such a talented pianist. Thank you Judy for many hours of relaxation and pure joy at listening to your singing ❤
We gave this one plenty of spins at WHCN-FM in Connecticut.
I’m from Connecticut Hartford I remember those days listened to you guys every day
DELIGHTFUL,THANKYOU
Merci
Lovely song, beautifully sung. Also give a listen to Peggy Lee's exquisite version of this song.
peggy lee's version is not true to the original score. there are many incorrect harmonizations (chords), etc. she never would have done that with any of the "standards" she sang.
"Ginny K" I hear that Judy Collin's son committed suicide when Judy Collins was at the peak of her fame. I think she might think of her son as she sings this song.
Yes~ 🗝💟🎶🕊
i love you lolo.....
!!!...
The same year my father died. I remembered how all my older siblings moved on and I was the youngest still stuck at home. It wasn't easy living with my parents. They had their dreams and I had mine. Although there was nothing wrong with that, we couldn't live together without many clashes. It was a regular day on June 20, 2002 when the doorbell rang, only to have someone inform us that my father passed away suddenly from an aortic anyuresym : (
I'm sorry that happened. I had issues with my parents as all teens do. And here I am now, both of them gone. Not a day goes by that I don't miss them, talk to them when I pray, and wish I had more time with them. I'm over 50 now, mom lived to 93, Dad to 83. I'm glad in my adult years we all enjoyed being together and had a great relationship.
My father always promised us
That we would live in France
We'd go boating on the Seine
And I would learn to dance
We lived in Ohio then
He worked in the mines
On his dreams like boats
We knew we would sail in time
All my sisters soon were gone
To Denver and Cheyenne
Marrying their grownup dreams
The lilacs and the man
I stayed behind the youngest still
Only danced alone
The colors of my father's dreams
Faded without a sound
And I live in Paris now
My children dance and dream
Hearing the ways of a miner's life
In words they've never seen
I sail my memories of home
Like boats across the Seine
And watch the Paris sun
Set in my father's eyes again
My father always promised us
That we would live in France
We'd go boating on the Seine
And I would learn to dance
I sail my memories of home
Like boats across the Seine
And watch the Paris sun
Set in my father's eyes again
"Chris Sawyer" Thanks for the lyrics.
N Y er who lived in Paris ♥️🦄🌹👀
Correction - No Big Deal. In the UK it was first released in 1966 on her album 'In My Life'?
she could sing this without the piano and i'd bet it would be as good or better
My opinion is that there could be nothing better than this performance, complete with piano.
