Great video and repair job! I have a Jetstream JTB1B, Dual Band 3 section 17', which is fine on 2m but has high SWR on 440! I've had this problem before and there was moisture same as in the video. When it was taken down, the 3 sections just came undone when laid on the ground. It could've been faulty installation or due to high winds, I'm leaning towards high winds. I live in an area with high winds. What should have been done on final installation is to seal with RTV and silicone self-healing tape as in the video. The person helping me (doing most of the work) felt rushed and didn't do it right, I was a new ham then. You know the old saying, when you want it done right, do it yourself! I'm showing this video to my buddy who's doing the climbing. I will take a more active role and do my due diligence. I will test with an antenna analyzer before re-installing. Cable tested ok with a TDR test. These antennas are pretty good for the money if you do the prep before hand, will last a long time! Thanks for posting! 73! W2QLH

I'm using form a gasket for sealing on my Tram 1481. This is my second repair of water leakage.

That rtv is an excellent idea also add an extra o ring if you have it that way when you tighten it good it will grip that fiberglass good an seal it then wrap with silicon tape . Do same tape on the bottom fiberglass to metal joint . Now that will make it waterproof but you still need to cut 2 v groves on the side of the so230 connector to allow any water out and help it breath then you will have a good antenna for many years.

Put some Vaseline on one flange. Clean the other flange very well with denatured alcohol and apply the sealant. Assemble the two pieces like normal. The Vaseline serves as a parting agent so the two flanges can be separated at a later date if needed.

Thanks for the video. I have issues with my Diamond X7000 tribander snapping just above the radials. I am attempting to repair the fibreglass tube and your strip-down has helped a lot. Thanks. G0RLJ

Just found this video looking for a way to do an actual fiberglass repair on a Solarcon A-99. It's pre-tuned for 10m thanks to it coming from another HAM, so that's one question solved ahead of time. But the problem is that it's about 25 years old and has been very weathered. The fiberglass itself is becoming brittle on the outer coating and flaking off the shaft in the way fiberglass becomes a microscopic, super sharp spear.
I am looking for a way to seal this properly so as to not affect the RF transmit or receive, and have it smooth and sealed and UV protected so it's not going to go through this again.
    Thanks, N2JZS

How did it test out after the repair? I was looking at one of these and wondered if a little preventative maintenance would go a long way.

Locktite on the connecting screw would have been better , because of the strong winds could loosen it.

After 7 years on top of my tower the SWR on my JTB-2 went sky high.. I dug out the climbing belt and hauled it down.
Turns out that the same solder joint you repaired came apart on mine. I soldered it up and I'm back in business. I guess the constant movement from the wind over the years weakened the joint to the point that it broke. One good thing was that I didn't have any trouble with water getting in. Everything was dry. (I did use silicone on the joins when I first installed the antenna).
