Lauren, I finished my dancing career in 2015 but this video made me think about all these long hours of training, teaching, taking classes, trying to build a personal brand. This is so true - you better work hard. I am from Saint Petersburg, Russia. In my city it's not difficult to launch a small business so people usually create their own projects - studios, dance camps, events. I did. I guess it's much easier to have a regular income for us (and go to European dance camps). In LA you guys have a huge competition. And amazing opportunities! However, by the end of the day we all have to pay our rent 😂 So I would recommend dancers from abroad to do their best in their country, take every opportunity to take classes abroad (learn Lauren's choreography online 😎) and go to LA fully prepared. Without rose colored glasses.
I absolutely love this comment!!💗💗💗 thank you so much for including your experiences, especially being from another country! We can all learn from each other from all over so i really appreciate you chiming in with your knowledge and wisdom!! And I encourage dancers from this country to travel abroad and learn from all over the world! Thank you so much!!🥰🥰
Love this video!! You are so professional with your info and how you talk. I want to be a dancer in LA 💃🏼 but currently am an engineer in AZ lol, hope to be there in a few years
What advice would you give to a teen who wants to do a career in dance? But what can I do now to best prepare myself? I already take multiple classes, do a workout every day and other things. Do you have any other tips thanks!
Oh yes! Thats a fantastic question love! I will do another video on what to do now with some extra tips on how to best prepare yourself for a dance career in 2020!! Video coming before the week is over!
@@ramandeepnijjar8281 hey lovely! I didn’t forget your question that you had for me. It’s been pretty hectic as I am about to make another move and so much is happening lol. I will still do a video for you, but later today I will give you a brief answer that way you can start working on all of it for the time being until I can get the video out! Thank you so much for your patience , I really appreciate it and you!😘
Hi Lauren! Do you have any tips on building authentic networking and relationship skills? I have been in LA for a couple of years now and struggling to have directions. Thanks for the video!
Hey! Great question! As you know, a good percentage of booking jobs is about who you know. Take as many dance classes as you can, both regular and master classes, and start to introduce yourself to your teachers, their assistants, and other fellow dancers. The more you expose yourself, your talent, and personality at the same time in the studio, the better chance you’ll have with connections, hence, the more auditions you will be asked to go on as well as possibly direct bookings (booking a job without having to audition based on who recommended you to the choreographer on that job). Hope this helps!🤗
Hello! I am 4'11 in height but I aspire to be an industry dancer. I heard that they usually look for dancers who are tall and would blend in well with the artists. Is there any hope for me to still be a professional dancer in LA or should I consider another type of professional job in dance?
Hi love! There are soooooo many jobs out there and many opportunities for dancers with any height. An artist may be 5.5 ft or shorter and they need shorter dancers to dance behind them to help the artist look taller. There will be jobs that casting will need only 5ft in height and below so if you’re taller than that you can’t audition. You have so many opportunities with Disney too! Not just Disneyland, but Disney channel, tv shows, movies! They may take you as looking younger with your height so that will definitely give you an advantage for that! So the answer is a definite YES! There is still hope for you and you will find work if you put in the effort and dedicate yourself to doing everything you can to better yourself and make yourself stand out amongst the others!
I had this same worry! I’ve been dancing professionally in NY for about 3 years now and I’ve had some success with my short height (I’m 5’1” or 2” depending on who’s asking lol), but I do get looked over a lot. Someone told me to look more into commercial type work, so I’m considering a move to LA (plus, I’m not a huge fan of NY) but I’ve been kinda nervous to make the move because of 1. My height and 2. My age (I’m 31) even though I look around 21.
Hi! Thank you for your question! So it depends on what your goals are and what industry you’d like to work and train to be part of (commercial, cruise ships, Broadway, etc.). LA and New York are the biggest industries, yet both are very different, LA being all commercial and New York being all live shows and Broadway (some commercials and movie gigs). If you’d like to do any work for cirque de soleil or residency shows in vegas, you can be either in vegas or in la, since some la audition calls are for vegas shows and if booked, you’d have to make the move. For cruise ships, LA or Miami since those are the cities where cruise ships mostly depart from, but with this one you could get training anywhere, you’d just need to do some research to see which cruise ship is hiring and when/where the audition is taking place. Overall, in my experience, LA and New York have the best training industries with the most working choreographers teaching classes. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions!🤗
I really love this video , I have a little question, how get the money to take dance classes, have you an other job? Sorry if I make mistakes I am french😅
Hey girl! Thank you so much for commenting and asking your question!🥰 Most dancers work 1 or 2 jobs to pay for cost of living including dance classes. However, a lot of dance studios offer a scholarship program or a work study program! So either you audition for the scholarship program and if you make it, you take classes based on a personalized schedule for you OR you work a certain number of hours or 1 or 2 days a week and get a number of or unlimited classes! I know all Milleniums do the work study program and EDGE PAC and Debbie Reynolds does the scholarship program! Hope this helps!🤗
So I have a question I’m a Christian hip hop dancer and I wanna do that professionally is there any type of Christian type dance groups in LA or agencies you know
Hey! I apologize for the late response. Oh for sure there are Christian based dance groups out there! You may just need to do some research online to see what part of la they are based out of. Plus, you can get really great gigs with being a Christian hip hop dancer! I once choreographed a hip hop routine for a church in Orange County for their Easter services. It was a blast! So for sure there is work out there for you! Hope this helped!
@@Yungzaeclips social media is HUGE right now for landing gigs and branding. Get on tik tok/IG and post like crazy!
