been a fan for 30 years, still in total awe, I remember when I was learning to play guitar and I learnt the riff to counting backwards (I got a tape with Hunk papa on one side and Real Ramona on the other) I played the E F# G A and decided then and there that I was just not good enough. I'll keep my gods, and these are one of them

Throwing Muses are always amazing... a super tight trio that let the music lead without a lot of showy stagey-ness, letting the compositions speak for themselves. Thank you, KEXP.

The more you listen, the better they get. Kristin/TM have enriched my life beyond description. Anybody reading this new to their music I'd suggest (all of them, but especially):
Throwing Muses: Self-titled "Throwing Muses"--as good as a first album as it gets
"The Real Ramona" highlights Tanya's role
Limbo--a little on the naughty side
last two albums "Uses" and "Purgatory/Paradise"--heads more into the punk sound; they just keep getting better.
Do compilations count? Throwing Muses "Anthology" excellent if you're into that kind of thing. Effort was obviously made to give it a flow.
Kristin Hersh: "Strange Angels and "Sunny Border Blue" may be two of the best albums ever made--by anyone. "Angels" stripped down girl-with-a-guitar and "Sunny Border Blue" far more into psychedelia than other material.
Of course, feel free to disagree...

Sendyourmind Can't really disagree, but Hunkpapa was my introduction to them and I love it still. The Real Ramona was really great and has my favorite song on it, Say Goodbye. And I second Hips and Makers! I love Tonya's pop sensibility, but I wish she would make less nonsensical lyrics.

I miss Tanya but Kristin still shows they've not skipped a beat and are still one of integral female-fronted bands that opened up so many opportunities for "indie-pendent" women of rock, etc.

Tanya Donelly, Kristen's stepsister, was co-lead singer/guitarist, co-founder and co-writer of songs since the band's origin. She left in the 90s to form Belly and also worked with The Breeders.
wakebakenbike sorry. Obviously I know who Tanya is. I've been a fan since the very beginning. I just think they are better now than they have ever been. Just my opinion.
Lol. Yeah, I agree. I love Tanya era but Kristin kept going and never despite the record industry never stopped she only advanced musically. She is a sonic force of nature.

Ainda n tinha visto ao vivo essa banda porque eu achava q era uma 'besteira' sonora...Mas me equivoquei...uma cozinha poderosa c/ essa 'galeguinha' no vocal (n sei o nome da moça) se esgoelando no vocal e guitarra!
