- The First Step is a weekly show brought to you by GDQ Hotfix and regular hosts JHobz and Keizaron. Speedrunning can be intimidating to get started with, but it doesn't have to be! Learn just how easy it can be by utilizing semi-blind races -- races of games you've played before, but never tried to speedrun -- and (hopefully) find a few laughs along the way. Pretty fun video, I like the chemistry between these 2 runners. This style of randomizer battleship competition is very interesting and I hope to watch more like it in the future.

Honestly I appreciate that you guys went through the options at the beginning, catching Battleships live on twitch is fun but I genuinely didn't know what some of these settings did! I wonder if we can do something like this for a game Hobz runs as well to even the playing field? :)

ive never seen pkmn green sprites before, some of them are cursed af and some look cool af, WHY IS THERE NO MIDDLE GROUND
Didn't they take artwork left over from other games to use for a bunch of the sprites? If so, that could easily explain it.
I do love me that pissed off Eevee, though.
really cool to see pokemon on first step. I would love to see a regular pokemon speedrun attempt tho, just to really show how hard it actually is and how much of a difference between an experienced runner and someone new. Everyone can see the skill of a dark souls speedrunner, its a lot harder to evaluate with pokemon. The first step would be a great opportunity for that imho
I'm mildly disappointed Keiz didn't save Victreebel for last, just so that it could be his Victory Bell....
I'm not /proud/ of that pun, but I am exceptionally amused by it.

I recently played a reproduction cart of Pokémon Green using the Japanese Green sprites but the American Blue English script. Seeing these sprites again is a nice surpise for this run to be sure, but a welcome one.

how do version exclusives work in this? or the fossils? can that lock someone out from any possible winning, or do people just assume that the randomizer will make that not relevant?
The randomizer guarantees that every Pokemon is catchable
