  • HOW TO PLAY SPIN & FAST TRACK YOUR DEVELOPMENT | LIAM BLACKFORD PT 2
    Today’s video is from Tuesday 11th February when I was in Geelong, Victoria. It’s of a session I had with Australian under 16 batter Liam Blackford. This is part 2 where we worked on his game against spin.
    G’day legends! My name is Tom Scollay and this is my Vlog. I’m a former professional cricketer [I played for Middlesex CCC from 2010-2012] and now play first grade in the WACA premier competition in Perth. I founded Cricket Mentoring in 2016 to help cricketers all over the world learn and improve their game for free. My vlog documents my life as a coach and player and as I strive to grow Cricket Mentoring into a global brand. Thanks for joining me on this journey. I hope you enjoy it and learn something from it.

    Finally a non Asian coach who understands the importance of playing spin. It’s usually all about pace pace pace

    Backfoot is the way to go. Gives you more time to read the type of delivery that has been bowled as well. Helps recognise the delivery type vs the action/difference in action (if any)

      Yeah when you’re facing quick spinners in Asian conditions, great way to play

    I played footy with Liam for st Mary's football club and he's an absolute beast. Could play cricket for Australia or play afl. I saw him in the local paper in Geelong and they we're comparing Liam with aronn finch.

    fascinating!! I can't imagine an Aussie coach recommending playing spin off the back foot 10 years ago

      Not many people do coach it, but is something we have found to be really effective 👊🏼

    How to control the bat speed on sticky surfaces as it is difficult to time the ball on that wickets?

  • @alihamza9344
    @alihamza9344 4 роки тому +9

    Great video !
    But the thing that concerns me while playing the ball at backfoot it can be dangerous as well especially on the asian wickets if the ball stays low or if it is wet surface .
    Do let me know your point of view as well.

      In those conditions play a straight ball with a straight bat. Don't try to cut or pull off the stumps unless it's really short. If you know it's always going to be low then stay down, keep your head low and keep your centre low (without crouching over too much). Hope this helps.

      Yes it’s about playing to the conditions but a lot of players have preferred to defend on the back foot on turning wickets to adjust with the spin and variable bounce rather than being dragged forward and poking at it.

    Is that yellow ball that Scolls was using a regular bowling machine ball? It was getting alot of turn and bounce

    Surely if a batter kept playing back and punching me, you’d bowl a quicker straighter one that slides and get him bowled or LB?

    • @MrBonified66
      @MrBonified66 4 роки тому +4

      You still need to pick the length, you're not going back to every ball. Yes, a good bowler will adapt. But at least you've got him off his Plan A, you're not just letting him bowl where he wants to.

    • @cricketmentoring
      @cricketmentoring  4 роки тому +4

      Still gotta be reading the ball out of the hand and making the correct decisions either for sure. At least you are making the bowler do something different which could bring a scoring opportunity with it
