Lee, words always feel inadequate at times like this, but losing a trusted friend is hard, and harder still when you’re not there for them, so my deepest condolences for that loss. Very sorry for your loss. In some ways it’s as hard to deal with as the loss of a person, since we tend to return the love pets give us unconditionally. I’m sure you gave him a good life, which makes him fortunate indeed in this world.
