Uncompressing Promix Compressed Pack

- I picked up this compressed bale of Promix potting mix recently and was wondering if it really is 2 cubic feet like they claim. At a little over $12 it seems like a good deal (they make a quality product) but if it is not really 2 CF then the price isn't as good. This comparison only covers the amount of potting mix each product contains, in other videos I'll compare growth results.

If you like the content I produce and would like to help support this channel there is one really easy way and it won't cost you anything. By using one of my Amazon links below any time you begin your shopping I will get a small referral reward even if you don't buy the product listed (when an item is purchased). These little bits add up and help me to buy more garden items to make more videos!
You can use my general amazon link (amzn.to/3qjBw6K) or check out one of the tools below. These are tools I use every day in my garden and highly recommend.
Tree saw - this Silky Professional F180 has a comfortable grip and cuts through branches with ease. I use this for things too large for the pruners. To date there is no rust on it, I put a loop of paracord through the hole in tha handle to make it easier to hang. Link: amzn.to/35Mb77Z
Pruners - The Felco F-2 Pruners are the choice of gardening experts everywhere. They seem to last forever, if you are a real heavy user you can buy replacement blades and make them like new again. Link: amzn.to/3qjzgMO
Snippers - For more precise work such as cutting delicate leaves off of new starts, these Corona stainless steel snippers work great. They have a long narrow blade to get into the tight spots on your seedlings or to prune smaller plants. Link: amzn.to/2TZmk2B
Trowel - Now this isn't really classified as a trowel but the Corona Scopp is my everyday all prupose tool that I probably use more than anything else (besides the pruners). This is not the best for digging in the soil but I don't really do much of that in my food forest. This is an excellent tool for potting, which I do a lot of. It holds a lot more than a traditional trowel and is a very well built tool. I've left it out in the rain many times and no rust. Link: amzn.to/3zRa5We
Knife - This Morakniv knife has held up well, it stays sharp and while the blade has lost its bright color it has not rusted. I use this for opening bags of soil and cutting ropes and twine. This knife is fairly inexpensive and includes a belt holster if you prefer to carry it that way. Link: amzn.to/3d9IPbD

The compressed ones are supposed to be moistened to make expand to appropriate amount
When you ordered first THEN go to YT to see if it was a deal. Thank god it was lol
3 crops of Brocoli using pro mix in a 15 gallon pot, each turned out great
I've noticed seedlings pop and grow very well in the promix you are showing here. So far nothing but good things to say about it. ✌️
Thanks budster, always good to hear others are getting similar results!
@@GardeningSolutions same here 👍👍👍👍
@Eric Ferguson They don't. I'm currently running a comparison with Promix and another brand that does have mycroraiza, no results yet as I think I had a bad batch of seeds or it is too hot right now. Stay tuned for those results.
Thanks for sharing! We look forward to the results
Is this promix considered soilless ??? And what PH should you water in with this at
@@5HuNiT Yes, PRO-MIX is considered a soilless medium. The initial pH of the PRO-MIX will be 5.2 - 5.6. After you have planted into the PRO-MIX and begin to water, the limestone in the media will begin to react and the pH will rise over the next seven days. The pH of the PRO-MIX will be 5.8 - 6.2 (depending on your water quality - alkalinity, not water pH). Thank you.
@@PROMIXGARDENING thanks
This compressed bag how are they soo much cheaper than the promix hp? And the compressed is it to be watered often or have a wet dry cycle. I hear that soilless is to be ran like drain to waste. I have be doing wet dry cycle without issues but want to get the best results.
@@PROMIXGARDENINGdo you have to let this soil sit and expand before planting? Does it require a soaking and drying before planting? What is the expansion rate for the compressed soil packs?
I just started a plant in the same thing. Thanks for the video
Good luck!
@@GardeningSolutions thanks
Thank you for this! I recently bought the Walmart compressed Promix. I used it today in combination with old sandy (florida) soil that’s been amended, miracle gro, and some black kow for transplants. Time will tell....
How did it work?
Keep it outside might get fungus gnats
From the miracle grow I got gnats from it
@@BeHappy-hh1ty , reply to a 2 year old question… lol I’m sorry, I’m just now seeing it.
As best I can recall, the plants did very well for a time until the Florida summer went full swing.
This is the best stuff for a great price. Found it at our local wally world last year (east coast central FL.) Kills me to see folks buying the 1cf bags of junk for $9 when you have the best stuff out there right next to it. I will say that when filling raised beds, I make my own mix to save a few dollars but for a few containers this is the best by far. Oh yeah, the Kelloggs is good stuff as well.
A bag is now $39 -2022 😫
@@truejoy3821 13.86 at our local walmart. You may be looking at their larger bales.
I found the bag of promix nearly doubled in size after a good soaking rain.
I haven't seen that with hose water, maybe the rain water reacts different.
I agree, the Promix pretty much doubled its volume when water was added, as it should have been when the compressed DRY soil was released from the bag. The other "compared" soils are packaged with moisture, so the comparison isn't fair....I used to use Kellogg organic raised bed mix, until they reduced the size of the bag by 1 cu. ft. and changed the quality a bit, now I use Promix (without purchasing from the "big box stores") and the quality has been wonderful. I add worm castings and compost for added benefits...
It’s fills 2/3 of a 20 gallon pot? I think this sells for like 12 bucks at Walmart. Seems like a good deal.
Add perlite if you are going to use any of those mediums in pots. Having really good drainage is the ticket. Roots love oxygen
WOOWW
Is this promix considered soilless ??? And what PH should you water in with this at
It should be since it is labelled as a potting mix. I've never paid attention to my water PH but potting mixes tend to be on the acidic side.
The pro mix I bought had some crushed lime in it fo ph stabilization
What about the Walmart ProMix with yellow label? Is it just as good as the red label? Does it expand to 2 cubic feet?
My local store just started stocking this. I'm doing a comparison now with new seedlings and I'll post the results as soon as they grow out. I'm also comparing Happy Frog at the same time :)
@@GardeningSolutions it's a little cheaper so was curious.
It expands once u add a lil water
My walmart sells those bricks of pro mix for 12.88
Can someone point to the following u growth comparison?
U have to add water it's cocopeat lol it expands a good bit
I bought this pro mix at Walmart and the pH was 4.8 out of the bag I'm sticking with fox farm
2 cubic feet is 12.86 gallons dry weight, not 15 or more
I bought the promix and found it to hold a crap ton of water! Hope I didn't drown my sticky purple passion cactus! Lol
I haven't had that problem, maybe you got a bad batch?
So I'm good at math and 7.48 gallons is 1 cubic ft in volume..... So 15 gallon pot is exactly 2 cubic feet. Thats pretty simply math. 7.5 x 2 = 15.....
He’s a dummy
They want $20 for this stuff now.
Yes unfortunate but still a good deal compared to the others.
Stays too wet for seed starting, lots of algae, switched to hp
It has coir in it definitely expands when wet.
Check out my follow up video, no expansion. Still a great deal though :)
I think you are supposed to add water to the pro mix.
I've tried that, it actually seems to shrink when I do that. I'll be posting a follow up on plant growth performance, results so far are overwhelmingly in favor of the promix.
Zzzzzzzzz
