I'm struggling with my prek kiddos as a first year teacher. I don't have them 5 days a week, and only for half a day. Then, in the afternoon, I get a daycare watch. So my Cozy Corner never came to fruition, and I feel like my own SE skills are out of par. It really stinks bc it's like 10 weeks into the year. 😞 so idk what to do. Thank you for this. I hope i can implement some strategies and then for next year actually have a proper area.
Thanks so much for explaining us the "calm down cozy corner" and the cleanup time. Thanks God that I found you, you are helping us to understand how to deal with the kindergarten kids.
Great episode! I think it’s also so important that we know our children. Each one of them is unique and what works for one doesn’t necessarily work for another. Loved the Summit!
How do you introduce the calm corner on the first day in Y1 ? Do you have tools in the calm corner ? Walking around the classroom and introducing what do you have in the class.
I probably wouldn't introduce it on the first day. You can find out which centers I introduce on the first day, and in which order in this episode: ua-cam.com/video/KUQiplRn-ZU/v-deo.html
I teach 4th grade and I find that a quiet corner is good for even kids at that age. I have a few books a puzzle that is also an early finisher option sometimes students just need a min away from the assignment or the lesson or maybe having trouble getting something and need to step away and do something else. I’ll be sure to limit the items in the Calming Corner to just a few “-less is more”, review the Clean Up Time routine if that’s the root of the problem and make sure they understand what’s in the area in order to use them before the need arises !

I use "thinking chair"
My “Cool Down Corner” only has a stuffed snowman, with a snowman blanket. Boring, safe, relaxing, and “cool!”
