- Great North Museum keeper of archaeology Andrew Parkin discusses the ancient god Mithras and the associated religion of Mithraism that was popular in the Roman Empire and along Hadrian's Wall. Video edited and produced by Chris Bradburn of Beacon Films CIC.
Problem with your lecture and all Western scholars is you all think everything started from Roman Empire. It is true that Roman Empire and Iranian, Persian Empire were at the same millennium and Mithraism from Iran influenced Roman solders. But Mithraism is part of Zoroastrian philosophy dated back to some four thousand years ago. Study the origin of Mithra and start from there.

I don't think that is what happened at all I think between the greeks and romans humans discovered early on that we worship the same gods they just reveal themselves in ways that appeal to our view and imagination at the time. Mithras is very Synonymous with Helios and Lucifer( the arc angel) and several other gods across the spectrum of human civilization. in my Personal view Lucifer is actually not relative to satan and this is why I support this.

Bro let us not get greedy and rely on actual evidences.
Otherwise,there are many other religious nuts also claiming that all the world is children of Adam and Eve and that Native Americans are lost tribes of Israel.
But there is no proof.
About Mithraism,if Indians can claim it,Iranians can claim it perhaps even more.
Afterall,Mithra is not a very prominent God in Rig Veda,but in Avesta he is the second in importance to Ahura Mazda.
The reason Mithra is depicted as riding on a chariot is bc of Achaemenid chariot forces being the most overpowered thing back in 2500 BC because of its versatility and the ability to both shoot arrows and use melee weapons. So the persians naturally assumed that the strongest god must also be using such a strong combination.

Mythras birthday is December 25. Which means we are worshipping him on Christmas and not the Christ child.
At 2:45 minutes there is an image with crow mask. I guess this is a mistake because the first step in Mitras religion called Crow. This is the step that the followers learn the basics by only copying like crow. This didn't mean to looks like a crow!

Mithras was introduced into Roman culture when Pompey went into Cilicia to stop the continual pirate raids. Cilicia is in Turkey. In various time frames, it had major contact with Mesopotamia (which hey, is Iraq & Iran today). The Akkadian Empire (2334-2154 BCE) maintained silver mines in Turkey 🇹🇷 and one is cited as active in the former Cilician area of Turkey. Captive pirates were taken to Rome and the Mithran faith began to spread in the First Century BCE. There is a mishmash of religions in Turkey and most go back to 1500 BCE. Mithraism, however, with its partial focus on Atys, lover of Cybele, and not Cybele, spread through the Roman Empire from the First Century BCE onward.
Christianity was popular in the Roman empire??Is that why Constantine ' sons outlawed public pagan sacrifice or why they made it illegal punishable by the death penalty or why Theodosius banned all religions except for Christianity and disbanded the Vestal Virgins or why Justinian forcibly closed pagan temples especially in Egypt?
On which side of Hadrian's Wall were this objects found? Because if it's the one in Britain, logically it would be actually on the Roman side.
