      I'm not a huge fan of Peter Jackson's take on the Tolkien universe, but I think he should get Irving to star in one of his movies, even if it's just a short cameo, all he'd have to do is be himself.

    I really like these videos. I'm from Turkey and I learned about the basics of Mesopotamian civilisations in school. But these smaller details and stories from everyday life in Mesopotamia give us a fuller picture of what it was like back then. I used to love going to the Anatolian Civilisations Museum in Ankara and would be completely mesmerised by the artefacts there. I now have a British Museum membership and go to the museum often but seeing these artefacts ripped out from where they came from (Turkey, Iraq, Iran) makes me very sad. I especially don't appreciate that they say the British Museum has 'acquired' these items when they were smuggled out of these countries by British archeologists who 'discovered' them. On the other hand, the care and attention that they have given these stolen items are exemplary. I think that the British Museum should be honest about the way they came to be in possession of Hellenic, Mesopotamian, Roman artefacts. Which was through smuggling and thievery. I can still appreciate that they cared more about these items than we could at the time they were excavated, but it's maybe time to repatriate them where possible.

    • @jorgepeterbarton
      @jorgepeterbarton 5 років тому +1

      Well I think that's because it is Tolkein's LOTR trilogy, just sayin. Yes, he does, dehumanising the enemy is actually sort of like a propaganda tactic. Weird when you think about how ideas like that 'good triumphing over evil monsters' are used in the past but given th time it was written WWII (and obviously something to do with it!) i'd have less qualms about those particular enemies being portrayed negatively. @@Tiger74147 a movie that got into trouble for doing that was 300 of course. Mr. Finkel! I could listen to you for hours and hours. I simply adore your tale telling fashion. It's engrossing, erudite, amusing and by times scary. You're depiction of (forgive the spelling) Lamashtu (?) was absolutely bone chilling. Imagine a new mother of the time, terrified this daemon would devour her child! I'm sure the mortality level for infants was very high and something had to be blamed, certainly.
    Such a joy to see you. 💖

    Oh, when Pazuzu's eyes are glaring,
    It's time to go to bed.
    You'll see demon shadows fighting,
    But it's just inside your head.
    When Pazuzu's eyes are staring,
    Then the moonlight will turn red,
    Cuz Pazuzu's in your nightmares,
    Until we all are dead. - Homer Simpson

    What Dr. Finkel says about Pazuzu is interesting. There is a line in the Exorcist in which Father Merrin finds the Pazuzu amulet, and mutters to himself "Evil against evil". That puts a whole new light on the Exorcist. What if Pazuzu was the hero of the story, trying to protect Regan from the demons inside her?

      @@francisfischer7620 Thank you. I am reminded of Medieval gargoyles. They were not incorporated on to cathedrals not to attract evil forces, but to frighten them away. I have a particular interest in Ancient Egyptian magic and demonology. Demons were often invoked to battle other demons. Yesterday's demons are often today's angels and vice a-versa. (Metaphorically of course).
