6:01 Classic Druaga mistake. The fist version of Mac OS to support PowerPC was actually System 7.1.1. Mac OS 8.5 simply dropped support for 68k machines, with 8.6 cleaning up more of the 68k code. The reason why Mac OS 8.0 didn't boot is because it's not compatible with the New World ROM, as the first one to support the NWR was Mac OS 8.1 (which came with the very first iMac G3, also the first NWR Mac).
I got 9.0.4 running in sheepshaver easily, just switched the rom files and it runs smoothly. And there is a setting in Sheepshaver that allows you to access the files on your main desktop from within Mac OS, really does save a lot of time.
Very glad you made this video because after discovering your content a month ago I wanted to try and emulate Mac OS 8.6 or Mac OS 9.0. Now I know how to do it thanks to you and this video!
Copy protection well in action even in the '90s: the Apple installation software will detect if the CD is read-only. The fix is modifying the Preferences so that the disk image is loaded as a CD. It's in INI format, so you can just replace the "disk" for the image path with "cdrom".
Carboy7 It was. Painfully slow (but beautiful). For most Macs, 7.7.6 was the most speedy and customisable OS for 64k you could expect, and that's another beauty!
2 years after and im still watching this stuff? ITS FRIGGING HILARIOUS!. sober or high, I love watching you have a cow over a CD not booting on a mac only cos i've been there too many a times tinkering on old macs. Ive said the same stuff at the machine you did. always a subscriber.
I've got it running, and I've used it to play ISOs of games I used to check out from the library in the early 2000s. It is a _pain_ to get working, I hope it's still being developed...
I used to use Basilisk as an emulator. I even got an external USB CD-RW drive working on an emulated quadra running Toast. It let you attach real Mac SCSI devices to your PC.
I saw the title and thought it was like a taquitos type video and i cried, BUT THEN i saw the video life and stopped considering suicide by sheep shear.
Enjoyed this one as I've only ever played with MacOS 7 in BasiliskII. BTW I suspect MacOS 8 would've had trouble with an 80 GB drive in any case since the biggest drive from that era was about 10 GB.
I just wanted to say thank you for all your efforts on your videos. as you said it is troubleshooting and that is so true 99% of the time it doesn't work keep up the good work and OMG this video made me laugh
You have to go into file properties (right click, select properties). Then you have to tick the Read-only box. The iso isn’t read-only so the Mac doesn’t like it, ticking the box will make it read-only so the Mac likes it again. Googling the error would tell you that you have to make it read-only. This would save you all that time trying to find a new image, finding a real cd to make a iso of.
Mediafour MacDrive for Windows. it's a driver that enables windows to read and write on mac formated disks. there is also paragon hfs+, but i never used it. also there is open source stuff, but you need to read carefully what those can do and if they are compatible with your windows version.
But there is a PowerPC native version of Mac OS 8.0, in fact, there is a lot more PowerPC native code in Mac OS 8. They were making it clear that they have officially transitioned three years into this platform.
Milan Jovanovic That's your opinion. I like the look of windows 10 and I've had every official update of windows from windows 95. So that doesn't include Chicago, longhorn etc
DialUp56k - Windows 2000 Enterprise Server Family you tested windows 10 in a VM and are complaining it's slow? yeah no kidding. vm's don't run as fast as an actual os
Windows 10 in the form of an upgrade on a windows 7 system is not at all like a very new system with a fresh windows 10 install. I have 2 windows 10 systems, one upgrade, one new build. The new build is so stupidly fast that it makes the other system look multiple generations older even though it is only 1 gen back.
Protip: You can use a dmg created on OSX directly as a disk image for sheepshaver/basilisk if you specify the hfs filing system. This has the added benefit of handling the resource/data forks correctly when putting warez on it.
Watching him make dumb mistakes he's completely oblivious to and that don't present themselves until much later is honestly a big part of why I'm subbed lol.
I have spent probably 8 hours at this point trying to figure out how Sheepshaver and Basilisk work. All I want to do is play super munchers and math blaster. I feel your frustration.
I believe you had to click the down arrow at the right end of the CD-ROM section and select the ISO there, and the hard disk under Volumes. Then it would probably have worked right away =)
I WAS SCREAMING FOR THE FIRST FOURTEEN MINUTES YOU NEED TO SET IT AS READ ONLY OH MY GOSH Sorry for all caps. But that was painful haha. I also noticed you made the disk way smaller than intended because you mistook MB for GB. But I figured it wouldn't be a problem since it was 40 by default anyway.
Setting the ROMs and .iso’s as Read Only was probably a major point in the Read Me file which Druaga1 spent all of his ”Five seconds of research“ not bothering to read! Seems pretty important!
I was able to get System 7 working very easily. Just click and thing and install it and it just... worked. However, SheepShaver doesn't work unless I reboot my Windows machine first. I don't know how or why, but at least it works.
I'm sure you got some shit for the way you did this video - But honestly, you could have put up a perfect vid and edited out all the mistakes and bloopers- Instead you showed what most conceivably could happen to a noob and how to troubleshoot and fix it. You played youtube on hard mode and to hell with the haters, you have my respect for that. Subbed so I can watch you stumble through more wacky shit.
I was wondering how long would it take for him to realize that he applied 80 megabytes, not gigabytes.
If it makes you feel any better, the problems that you run into are what make your videos entertaining. Your tears sustain us.
"Oh let's try these nightmare goggles!"
"... oh, everything is just the same as before..."
- Druaga1, while messing with computers
The SheepShaver Sheep has three front legs.
I only just now noticed, thanks to it being huge on the thumbnail.
No, it just looks like it does because the 3d effect on the second leg makes it look like a third leg. Kinda weird.
help i can’t unsee it
so, it was 4:20pm, and my phone battery was 69%, I tried to exit UA-cam, which ended up completely locking up my phone
tip of advice, don't ignore 420
The same thing happened to my Fire tablet at 9:41am with 99% battery.
curse you besos
420 What your Smoking
420 is also Adolf Hitlers Birthday :/
Cracked up at "when it comes to troubleshooting these things, I'm set on Nightmare-mode pretty much all the time".

*See's '(MB)'*
*ignores and thinks it's GB*
Windows has always counted file sizes in Kilobytes. And you cannot just expect any old program to work with any old version of windows.
I'm amazed you haven't put an SSD in an original Xbox yet.
They should call it SleepShaver because you loose sleep getting it to work.
I got 9.0.4 running in sheepshaver easily, just switched the rom files and it runs smoothly. And there is a setting in Sheepshaver that allows you to access the files on your main desktop from within Mac OS, really does save a lot of time.

thank god a druaga1 video
i was bored as shit
i love my nep nep
why the FUCK greek language has so many EXACTLY the same letters that are only used depending on the context. Fuck me
που σαι ρε πατριδα
It would be great if you could open a video like:
"Hey Druggas, Smoker1 here"
bro, do you even read?
*Size (MB): 80*
_"80GB"_
Let's make it 80 Gig *makes 80 MB virtual drive*

i remember when you couldn't run 9.0.4-10.2 versions of mac os
thankfully qemu can run anything in that segment nowadays
qemu's speed is essential dog poop but it can emulate 10.5 atleast
My first Mac OS was 9.2.2
I'm so happy Druaga, thanks for all your vids :) 420 bro, fam is lit xD
The timing at 33:06 is just incredible.
SheepShaver is ooooold. It still works....sometimes. Good luck finding the old builds of GTK and SDL.
FYI system 7.5 and above are 68k and PPC compatible after 8.1 it was PPC only
Carboy7 It was. Painfully slow (but beautiful). For most Macs, 7.7.6 was the most speedy and customisable OS for 64k you could expect, and that's another beauty!

"That is, if you can get your ISO of Kid Pix on the fucking computer first... good loooooooord did I have to bust my ass to do that" -Druaga
7:35
I already did that 2 weeks ago . . . no thanks, I'm good.
*tip*: You don't have to kill every enemy. Just run past some at light speed.
I've got it running, and I've used it to play ISOs of games I used to check out from the library in the early 2000s. It is a _pain_ to get working, I hope it's still being developed...
"Hope there's enough space to install [1GB]". Dude, when 8.5 was around 80MB was a decent HDD size.
SireSquish more like 2gb
Maybe for you, Mr. Moneybags. 2GB wasn't cheap.
Umm, when 8.5 was released in 1998, there surely were bigger HDD:s in use than 80MB. My Pentium Pro computer from 1996 had a 2.1GB HDD already.
Righto, I suppose 8.5 came out much later than I thought. We had a massive 80mb drive on a system 7.5 IIsi.
i keep fucking reading "sheepsaver" and its fucking me up so much
1 MB is used for the Bootloader
can u do a video on either baslislik, pearpc, or mini vmac?
or even emulating the ti-99/4A?
thanks!
-Andrew
Finally a 1 hour long druaga1 video!! Its been forever!
thanks for figuring this out (and in an entertaining manner) so we dont have to!
I used to use Basilisk as an emulator. I even got an external USB CD-RW drive working on an emulated quadra running Toast. It let you attach real Mac SCSI devices to your PC.
me:**done using mac os 9 on SheepShaver** also me:**sees this video** also me:HOW DID IT- i have no words
Yeah, I think how I did it was I used actual OEM CDs of the MacOS to boot from. Anything added to the disk image list is thought of as a hard drive.
Right, unless locked. Forgot about that part.
19:56, I was waiting for that moment!
I saw the title and thought it was like a taquitos type video and i cried, BUT THEN i saw the video life and stopped considering suicide by sheep shear.
you sound like a cat when you keep saying "wow". it's good.
Kit Vitae and he even has a cat, so maybe the cat is influencing him
Congrats on 71K subs druaga.
Enjoyed this one as I've only ever played with MacOS 7 in BasiliskII. BTW I suspect MacOS 8 would've had trouble with an 80 GB drive in any case since the biggest drive from that era was about 10 GB.
another great and fun video from druaga1 ;D
Why was Doom's ISO dated 02/05/2106?
I just wanted to say thank you for all your efforts on your videos. as you said it is troubleshooting and that is so true 99% of the time it doesn't work keep up the good work and OMG this video made me laugh
How did you customize Windows 10?
Wow if it werent for the read only trick i would never have been able to install Mac OS X DP1 on Sheepshaver. Worked like a charm!
44:04 -- I read "mapdefault" as "maplefruit" for some reason.
still waiting for the scanner part trois.......
i made you art on your subreddit
keep blazin'
If only Copland booted in this. The emulator, well, emulates a Mac too new for Copland.
This is awesome! Are there gonnna be more OSception Druaga1 videos?
Yes one wants waiting!

I can never seem to get this working. Always something about a ROM error.
I know it's an old comment, but just Google old world rom or new world rom and you can find one that works with SheepShaver.
Mediafour MacDrive for Windows. it's a driver that enables windows to read and write on mac formated disks.
there is also paragon hfs+, but i never used it. also there is open source stuff, but you need to read carefully what those can do and if they are compatible with your windows version.
If you just wanted to use Kid Pix whenever you want, why didn't you just download the Windows XP version?
if you follow the damn forum, it tells you what to do while setting up sheepshaver.
And it also tells you to make your install image READ ONLY on the windows OS level
So that it acts as read only in the VM
Woah, you went with 98+XP sounds, better than the default ones!
I went with my own custom Longhorn sound scheme.
Is it just me? Or did his Windows 10 gets a Windows 2000 look along with the sounds?
But there is a PowerPC native version of Mac OS 8.0, in fact, there is a lot more PowerPC native code in Mac OS 8. They were making it clear that they have officially transitioned three years into this platform.
It's pretty sad when an operating system from 1999 looks way better than a 2015 OS...
Milan Jovanovic That's your opinion. I like the look of windows 10 and I've had every official update of windows from windows 95. So that doesn't include Chicago, longhorn etc
Milan Jovanovic I still prefer 7. removes some unnecessary stuff from vista
How about you respect Windows 10 for what it is...at least there's no full screen start that you can't change...
DialUp56k - Windows 2000 Enterprise Server Family you tested windows 10 in a VM and are complaining it's slow?
yeah no kidding. vm's don't run as fast as an actual os

Count it as a win.
My week is complete now, thank you sir!

keep up the good work. I enjoy your movies.
Love ya dude! These are masterpieces.
the force close is Alt+F4
You mounted an ISO in a VM to transfer data? WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You're a pioneer!!
"7 megs? 4.9K available? Where did all the space go?!"
*inputs 80 MB instead of GB at the start*
gg druaga
Watching him make dumb mistakes he's completely oblivious to and that don't present themselves until much later is honestly a big part of why I'm subbed lol.
You mentioned videos about running 10.5, but I can't find them anywhere.
Noticeably early?
I wish Druaga1 would make a hackintosh Video
Milan Jovanovic can you link to it,
And yes I know I am being extremely lazy
14 mins in and I wonder if he's gonna notice he's using an older version of sheepshaver
Druaga, why don't you do a video on brutal doom at some point? Or something with brutal doom in it? Could be fun.
tfw there will never be an OS like 9.2 ever again : (
I have spent probably 8 hours at this point trying to figure out how Sheepshaver and Basilisk work. All I want to do is play super munchers and math blaster. I feel your frustration.
I believe you had to click the down arrow at the right end of the CD-ROM section and select the ISO there, and the hard disk under Volumes. Then it would probably have worked right away =)
It's supposed to be like: "Bro, do you even SheepShavered?" or "Bro, are you a SheepShaver?"
My install of SheepShaver has 9.0.4 and I don't remember how I got it to work.
It is now time for BeOS/Haiku, right?
I wish it had taken him longer to figure it out... too funny!
I WAS SCREAMING FOR THE FIRST FOURTEEN MINUTES YOU NEED TO SET IT AS READ ONLY OH MY GOSH
Sorry for all caps. But that was painful haha. I also noticed you made the disk way smaller than intended because you mistook MB for GB. But I figured it wouldn't be a problem since it was 40 by default anyway.

Timecode 13:52- you must allocate at least 512 MB to avoid crashes. Yes, MacOS 9 does work
I love when I run into issues when doing something because then It keeps me from boredom
I was able to get System 7 working very easily. Just click and thing and install it and it just... worked. However, SheepShaver doesn't work unless I reboot my Windows machine first. I don't know how or why, but at least it works.
i started using SheepShaver on my 2010 mac mini about month ago
I'm sure you got some shit for the way you did this video - But honestly, you could have put up a perfect vid and edited out all the mistakes and bloopers- Instead you showed what most conceivably could happen to a noob and how to troubleshoot and fix it. You played youtube on hard mode and to hell with the haters, you have my respect for that. Subbed so I can watch you stumble through more wacky shit.
I still have no idea what OS Druaga uses on a daily basis. Should I at all be concerned?
Windows 10.
40:03 kid pix was made in 2106
I have Mac OS 9.0.4 running on my SheepShaver setup. 4 GB image, 512 MB of RAM, full screen. I have an option to switch resolutions.
I actually downloaded GZDoom and beat the first two levels on your command.
I just have a bunch of vitual machines but have nothing to use them for i just have them just to randomly use.
YES! DRUAGA 1 VIDEO!
He doesn't even know that you can go into the properties of the ISO and hit read only
I love druaga 1 he never fails to make me laugh
"Hey Druaga, smokers1 here"
When you plan to start watching Stranger Things but druaga appears in the sub box...
You help me escape reality :) thank you
so who else here face palmed when he started installing 8.6 Since he only made a 80MB ssd not 80GB.
The only reason to love Mondays.
Why not try the 68k games on it? Can get hit or miss though
why sheep shaver often crash
