Im kind of surprised that mr.Okawa let his family members have such high-ranking positions in the church. Usually cult leaders take as much power for themselves as possible
For anyone who wants to deep dive further into this, there's another cult called "Soka Gakkai" or it's acronym "sgi" which stands for Soka Gakkai International. It even has its own rarely-mentioned university in the United States which it tries to distance itself from to not arouse suspicion. It's a sort of unconventional Buddhist sect type religion, and I'd compare it to scientology in terms of money and influence.
Soka gakkai is a humanistic organisation. It's based on faith in the lotus Sutra and jas come down from scriptures and the last teachings of shakyamuni buddha. It does not act like this funny religion happy science. It's seems kinda funny. Happy science is trying to copy successful religions.
I only know about Soka gakkai from my mom who knew about them many decades before they spread beyond Japan. She remarked how the original stories of a beheading that was thwarted by a lightning hitting the sword was later changed to a falling store, like the official more plausible story was changed. Made me think similar re-writes likely with the Bible. I knew someone who put her faith in Sokkai Gakkai because she was lonely and when she was dying of ovarian cancer, the members seemed to be caring for her and probably conducted her funeral when she died. They aren't as outlandish as some other more recent Japanese cults. They're popping up all over the place like suburban US.

Have you Watched Mother’s Basement’s video on Happy Science’s films? Apparently one film (Mythic Laws) takes the Far Right Japanese stuff to the next level, there was a montage of China (it was supposed to be a fictional country I can’t remember it’s name but it was heavily implied to be china) of them invading Japan, killing religious people and their families, and in said montage had schools teach about Nanking (Japan’s Far Right denies any war crimes Japan did during WWII)
@@thejman5683 I have not watched the film but I definitely heard about it though. The horrendous things Japan did in Nanking though. I cannot imagine a single person just going around and chopping heads of other people and competing for it.

@@apple_dragon226 "The uploader has not made this video available in your country." Clearly it wasn't because of the Japanese government blocking the video. To be fair, Happy Science is notorious for copyright striking creators who criticize them. If it was uploaded originally with a region block on Japan then I would agree that they lack journalistic integrity and bravery. That said, if it was region blocked in response to Happy Science striking their channel, that’s a bit more understandable. “Happy Science” yep sounds like a name we would come up with 😂 this is basically Japanese Scientology and I like how they explained the history using anime
I almost joined their cult. They have a small temple behind the college I went to. I had dropped out due to a developing psychosis. I felt alone, depressed and desperately wanted to be a part of a group and make friends. I needed something to believe in. I started studying all kinds of religions and spiritual practices to make sense of my psychosis. So I walked into their little temple one day. Everyone was so kind and gentle. They played calming music (which in hindsight, I’m afraid may or may not have had subliminal messages in them). My first visit, they conveniently were about to watch a movie on the origin of their religion. Yes it was some Japanese dude in the 80s that found out he could speak to Jesus and was gifted with automatic writing/psychography. This is basically when a non physical entity speaks directly through a human vessel, like Ryuho Okawa, through their pen’s strokes to paper. I thought it was weird and kinda funny, but not impossible (again, I was not mentally well). I was learning Japanese, so the folks there were very impressed and eager to talk to me. Very welcoming people. The uhhh pastor(?) there gave me a book after my 3rd visit. I promised to read it all and come back. In the book was general self help and life advice. Much of it was helpful from what I remember. Except for the parts where they explain the creation of the earth by El Cantare, the god of all gods and the one true omnipotence behind all religions and spirituality. “Huh… interesting” I thought, but I kept reading and visiting. The pastor(?) would try his best to relate to me and connect with the other spiritual practices I was interested in, like shamanic practices, while demonstrating a total ignorance to what I was studying with a huge grin. Sometimes his grin made me uncomfortable and I felt like he was judging me. I felt like behind his smile and gentle voice was something to not be trusted. I can’t stress this enough, he grinned as hard as he could, especially when explaining the lore of Happy Science, like if he was thinking “oh this goofball’s really buying it.” Anyway, the book was weird and used a lot of cyclical language and thinking. It almost read the way a hypnotist talks. I was curious and excited to go back to the Happy Science temple as I was making friends and had a crush on a woman there… Till I finished the book. Yeah the whole thing seems benevolent but in the last 2 pages it tells the reader that we learn from suffering. Okay, typical Buddhist stuff. NAH It says because we learn from suffering, we must put ourselves into situations that make us suffer. Because we learn from suffering, we must use suffering to teach others to grow and become closer to El Cantare, and find happiness. I was shocked and immediately realized I was about to join a cult.
Oh the Pastor(?) also told me if I read some more books and stuck with the temple for longer, he could get me on a mission to Japan with them. He showed me photos of their mission with that slightly creepy smile, and in it were maybe 40 people all sleeping on the floor of a Japanese house, with only a blanket. I was confused why they were on the floor, but didn’t want to be rude or ungrateful. I really wanted to go to Japan at the time. Boy did I dodge a bullet.

It looks like they're this special people group specifically hunted down as if they're the Jews being persecuted by the Reich. The way they presented organ trafficking? It looks like they are the prime victim
Falun Gong have some weird beliefs, but they're ultimately no more fucked up than most mainstream religions - Christians, Muslims, most religions in the West have some sort of fundamentalist psycho element that believes self-destructive stuff. They certainly don't seem to fit the mold of most cults (one person billed as the messiah, with the whole belief system conveniently serving to benefit them), they look fairly decentralized even if they are based around a modern man's eccentric teachings. They're kinda like Chinese Mormons - their beliefs are pretty wacky and some of them take it to a dangerous point (disavowing modern medicine is the big one I saw), but it's still primarily about spirituality. Not quite like Okawa or Shoko Asahara's deity status. Also Falun Gong is Chinese, not Japanese, so putting them down as a challenger to the title of Japan's Weirdest Cult seems very odd.

I remember talking to a Japanese person, and they basically described this as Japanese Scientology.

I can’t stress this enough, he grinned as hard as he could, especially when explaining the lore of Happy Science, like if he was thinking “oh this goofball’s really buying it.”
Anyway, the book was weird and used a lot of cyclical language and thinking. NAH
It says because we learn from suffering, we must put ourselves into situations that make us suffer.

@Ike but no Mike sigh, blind ppl is hard to open their eyes when they dont want to see. Nevertheless don't mind me
Falun Gong have some weird beliefs, but they're ultimately no more fucked up than most mainstream religions - Christians, Muslims, most religions in the West have some sort of fundamentalist psycho element that believes self-destructive stuff.
