Lyrics:
Mist that hangs like silk
Soaking in the rain
Trees that rise like ghosts
Bearing people's names
And a sea that takes me
Where I do not know
But I gladly go
Shrouded in the sweetest grass
I've ever known
This my earthly bed
My beloved home
But the voice that calls me
To the far away
I can only trust every word you say
And here I am
Out on the edge of the world
With You, With You
Shall I leave the print of my knees
Upon the sand
This my final prayer
In my native land
Shall I turn my face
Towards the shining sea
Taste the salt of tears
For those I have to leave
This music has carried me through the years...God has spoken to me many times through these songs....they are apart of me. Those who have been close to me know this music.....they had no choice...lol!
I resonate with you! I listened to IONA through the late 90's and into the 2000's. I'm picking them up again today and I have to say...so heartwarming.
Me as well! ❤️
Yep🙏
IONA is one of the very few bands that have heavely anointed music and lyrics. My personal favorite and im.a musician too myself.
I thought I loved Iona's music after I bought their 'Book Of Kells' album.
But this particular song drops me to my knees!
Oh my goodness, what a magical way to start my day. Mystical, full of passion, love and adoration for a landscape made and inhabited by Our Lord. Thank you for bringing this to me, especially in this time of fear and indecision. Bless you Heather
I am not a Christian but joanne hoggs beautiful voice and the feel of the band and the emotive glorious music they make really gets me , i often think that if i had a million pounds id ask iona to reform as i didnt discover them until theyd spilt up , how i would have loved to have seen then live .
Joannes solo albums and dave bainbridges also are mainstays of my music listening .
😊
same i'm muslim and love her music
Beautiful song!
Heather......stunning photographs which fit the mood perfectly to one of my favourite songs from my favourite band......have seen them 41 times so far!
Thanks for sharing
Dying and listening to this song and being right in touch with God is a thought I had.....hope it can wait though
This has always been my favorite song by Iona. So beautiful, and based on such a beautiful story.
What is the story?
@@franklund8635 One of the legends of St. Brendan, who left Ireland to spread the Gospel to other places that had not heard it. One legend says that he sailed to the far west, though at that time no one thought there was anything there but the ocean and the 'edge of the world.' Legend says that one day St. Brendan returned, having visited a far off land to the west where he told the native peoples about Christ. And there are numerous other legends about him as well.

Thanks for posting this Heather. I think it captures the sentiments of St. Columba, as he departed his beloved Ireland for (voluntary) exile on the margins of (present-day) Scotland. Also reminds me of a poem ascribed to St. Brendan before he departed onto the wild sea. Regardless, both are loaded with pathos, and yet, joy...
forgot how much I love this tune
I discovered this video a couple of years ago, and it continues to haunt me... sometimes I actually wake up humming the song. It has touched my very core. I used to try to understand why. Now I just accept it as the gift it is...
Saludos desde costa Rica, gracias por compartir tan bella canción🎸🙋🇨🇷
amazing group. sad they are gone.
They will come back
@@lucaa.9709 Oh, I hope so!
Marvellous combination Heather. This song is one of the most powerful tunes written by Iona and the images you added greatly enhance it. Thanks for posting!
Most lovely vocals.
Angelic Voice....... Beautiful!!!!!
i live in the states these days and every time i go home to England and visit my parents and sisters, i think of this song when i’m on the plane flying back to the states... i miss my family!
flyingpotato1975 I miss mine too 😢
You've done a great job with this vid HeatherMac. I just love this tune. (Not morbid or anything, but I can't think of a more beautiful song to be played at my funeral) Just captures everything I'd want to say. K
amazing so inspiring music . loved all tracks
Beautiful! And of course I love the music and message. It fits the mood I imagine of the missionaries of the middle ages, sailing to the unknown.
my daughters name is Iona and she loved everything about this she wanted to see more thank you for cheering up my daughter for getting bullied ;D (she just saw this and showed me)
A Holy name for your daughter. May Almighty God Father, Son and Holy Spirit bless you and your daughter.
Iona... the best there is.
Great spiritual song. God bless you.
They are together and as strong as ever. Almost faded away but were "reborn" a few years ago.
If you hear the music and see the images, it's like you are there. Iona is amazing. Greetings Erik
Taking the Good News to the edge of the world. No higher calling in this life.Who will take his name?
I love Iona. They paint masterpieces using the brushes of words and music, and each instrument is skillfully played, especially Joanne Hogg's futelike voice.
Simply gorgeous. Heather, you have captured the essence of this song....perfect.
Mellow song - God seems associated with all that is lovely
I saw u in Manchester , u was so amazing .
I wish I could see u again ❤❤
My Ancestors home land can’t wait to visit this one.
Wow, all those landscapes are beautiful!
just beautiful! just beautiful!
listening...again
Wordsmith001 is right, your timing is perfect and gentle like the sweet grass, the streams and far away places the song takes us to.
Very nice song and excellent images. Added video to a playlist. Very well done. Have a nice week. ~ Belenus.
Thanks for sharing
Yeah, nice combination. I'd like to know more about this group...
Beautiful!
One does not simply dislike Iona.
@parko2112 41 times! I saw them once in Hamburg in 1997. The best concert i've ever been to! An unforgettable event. Joanne was on stage barefeet and it seemed she was floating in the air. Troy changing his instruments about 30 times, the band playing for 2 hours and a half ... the hall (Factory, Altona) was almost empty - but it didn't matter one bit. They were amazing and i'm hoping to be able to see them in Edinburgh this year. Funny they never play in Ireland though!
This is awesome doesn't Joanne have the prettiest voice? Are you friends with her on Facebook

I remember once telling my friends about Iona, and they gave me this "Celtic" praise and worship cd they'd copied from somewhere, and told me how amazing it was.
It was complete crap, and I told them so, but I was probably a little harsh, considering I'd been introduced to Celtic music by Iona, and it doesn't get much better than them.
ablethreefourbravo True. I could never find a band quite like Iona.
Love to all listening.
My name is IONA i fron Brasil
Oi! Lancei um vídeo sobre esta banda, e falo sobre um disco deles. Fica o convite. Talvez goste.

Wonderful!!!
Can anyone tell me whether or not IONA is still together? I was a huge fan, and haven't heard anything from them in a number of years.

I again am faced with letting go of a book in my life in order to begin a completely new story. I've said my final prayer in my native land. I turn my face toward the shining sea. I place my trust, again, in Messiah Jesus to guide my journey out into the new waters. Here's to my new journey, this time joined by my two children, Patrick and Iona. :-)
In that time for me, I happened upon the band, titled after the same Island. This song ministered deeply to my soul, helping me to find my own connection with my Creator. Now, I am at a time in life that I am at the Edge of the World, again. . . not contemplating suicide, but surviving my late husband's suicide. . .
listening...again....
