Ends & Odds: DIY Bandsaw Guides & More!

- The top fell off the rotary weld table and the bandsaw guides are loose as a goose. Perhaps even looser. But who's to judge?
Check out Keith Rucker's Channel!

Funny I would have cut the guides in brass on the bandsaw and hand held them with my finger tips against the 20” sanding disk burned by fingers and shot the pieces into the future and just said aww Fuck it the one on there ain’t so bad. Hahah I can’t quit you.
@Zion Paxton well noticed, noone cares
I watch all of your videos at 0.25 speed, can't miss those details!
Great. I tried doing this and the sound of Tony's slow-mo voice summoned a demon who made me a welding rotatory plate. I don't even own a welder!
I just watch them 4 times
That is some impressive acting by Keith!
I miss his museum work. Does he do those any more?
When he started spelling subscribe :')
Well he still has that phone at least.
And the Oscar goes to.....
@@disarm2k10 I missed it again! 😢
I watch all the ToT videos at 0.25X, I want them to last as long as possible. These videos are like a glass of fine whiskey, consumed by sipping and never watered down.
Must not be done too frequently, lest you become branded "TOTaholic"! :o)
@Evi1M4chine I use cheap whisky in my Multiplaz 3500 plasma welder in place of hard to get isopropyl alcohol now the virus is about.
All the fun - and the fact that nobody under 30 knows Max Headroom - aside, well done on the guides. Glad the thinned down blade worked (if not crashed.. ;) ). Keep us please updated how the cast iron holds up.
Btw. What about the surface gage project? ;)
I don't know what you're talking about. :)
being an audio tech I always thought Max Headroom was a signal recording reference. I was not surprised to find out how much simpler it was.
Hey! I know Max Headr... oh, crap, I'm over 40 *already*?
30???!!! I'd say no one under 40 knows him!
I discovered this channel late in the game.... In short order binge watched every video... Now I truly get upset every day when I see that a new one doesn't post... And then proceed to giggle like a schoolgirl when I see a new one in my suggestion box.... Thanks Tony.
*lathe in the game.. sorry I show myself out.
FYI: The giggling never stops.
Hey Hugh, you are sofa king lucky to have the last name Janus, Mike Hunt was jealous, hahaha
My parents Mr. and Mrs. Janus had a weird sense humor...
Out of all the channels I watch TOT's is the one I get the most excited about when I see a new video is out
Hey Tony. I learned how to sharpen drill bits today from your video. That was a long overdue shop project!
I hope you didn't learn it from this video... unless I missed something, drill bit sharpening was not on the agenda today! :o)
I was dying when Keith showed up. Your cameo skits are epic. I always learn a lot and laugh myself into a hyperventilating stupor when watching this channel.
Tony, did you know that when you’re not using the lathe you can chuck up a record in it and use it for background music 🎶
The only problem is that after that first play, you've got yet another copy of "The Sounds of Silence".
Try taking a lighter cut? Also, don't use a record with talking on it - waaay too much chatter.
i wonder if you could use a TIG torch to read music from bakelite records
Yep all you need to do is put a sewing needle connected to a cone in the tool post and you could play one, as long as you had an auto crossfeed that matched the spiral size.
Drain the oil out of it if you want "Heavy Metal".
Another great one :)
Im subscribes to you Alex, but I just noticed I havent seen a video from you for ages. They dont appear in my feed unlike all the other ones. Fucking hell...
Sausage.
I thought the comment section was going to be flooded with galvanic corrosion!
Finally! Someone who knows something about corrosion mechanics.
Wintergatan : maybe ToT viewers are more secure in their masculinity than the average yToober
Man, what are you doing here?
Wtf, the plugging of the tool in the USB port to show the model in 3d was *GENIUS HAeuhAUAHUha*
yea :D :D :D he is master of this hidden jokes :D
Never plug your tool in to something that has not been configured properly...
If in doubt, stick your toll in a vice (vise) :)
I don't know what was genius about it... it didn't work for me. All I got was smoke and a PC that won't boot! ;o)
@Evi1M4chine : You lost me at Gentoo! :o)
(Not sure I want to reverse my G-string anyway.)
I'm just getting into machining, just finishing precision machining classes, and I can't begin to express how helpful your videos are and how much I appreciate your sense of humor and ability to keep things light and fun. Thank you for helping me through school!
7:36...i laughed so hard I cried!! this is the best channel on UA-cam hands down!! I always leave old Tony videos with a smile on my face and a 6011 on my mind😁... love old Tony!!!
A.v.E and TOT in the same morning! Dreams really do come true.
I've never seen AvE and ToT in the same room... coincidence?
Monday morning 4am (local time, Queensland, Australia), ready to milk cows at the dairy and a new TOT vid comes up, oh well, looks like the entire country will have to wait an extra 20mins for their milk today.......
Justscary lol I'm from Vic Aus dairy part
We can wait 😊.
The only type of procrastination that's approved not only by happy California cows, Wisconsin Dairy Association and the Australian Milk Men's (and Sheilas) gathering for liquid nutrition.
Remember Tony Tots, drink milk that's only procrastination approved via This Old Tony. It means that the nutrients got thicker for better bones, hair, teeth and that vip of vim and vigor to be the confident big man or woman on campus.
@@Bl4ckw0lf1 : You only have to look at how healthy Meatball is to know what you say is right! :o)
Milk from smiling cows always tastes better! (You do have UA-cam in the milking shed, don't you?) :o)
19:55 *Payoff?!* No thank you.
Last time a guy named Tony gave me a payoff I got sentenced to 5 years!
The humour in this, from yourself and also the cameos, is just absolutely on point! These videos are an absolute joy to watch :D
I loved the caliper/usb gag, I laughed a little too long and hard at that 😀
Got a giggle at the Diff'rent Strokes reference too 😃
Now I feel like I got a lot done today.
I hope you and Stefan and Keith had as much fun making this as I had watching it!
"Bum electrodes" do not sound comfortable, Tony.
ha!
Bigclive did do a teardown of a bum electrode that someone sent him once.
ua-cam.com/video/ClSch3zLC0k/v-deo.html
How else are you going to fix that crack?
Sounds like something Braveheart would use
Especially if they are being provided by "She who must be obeyed"!
That Keith Rucker is a good actor. Or maybe he wasn't acting? Love your videos! : )
Simply one of my favourite UA-cam channels. Mainstream TV, Satellite and cable would really struggle to produce a program as good as this.
Oh man, a shout out at 5:48, oh Tony, you really shouldn't have... But fine I'll take it!!)
Nah. 2x all the way for me. Wish they even had an option for 3x or 4x for Monday-night-meatloaves ;p
1.25-2 depending on the density of content and talking speed. i avg 1.5x tho.
+Jonas The Movie You have to any faster and his voice would just sound like one continuous sound
[ Video Speed Controller ] browser extension/add-on lets you go up to 10x and in 0.1x increments. It also stores your preferred speed (e.g. 2.1x ) and lets you toggle between that and normal speed.
I watch at 2x but I watch it twice because I always miss stuff the first time
This is still my most favorite hobby comedy home project design ironic subversive channel on the Television. Thank you Tony
Love this guy.......king of youtube
And if it won't fit just weld it straight to the vise!
The Max Headroom bit was awesome!! Man that is a throwback. Loved the vid, as usual. Thanks for the laughs!
Yet another fantastic TOT video! I even caught the "Different Strokes" reference in there. "What'chu talk'n 'bout Willis?". I'm guessing Tony and I are pretty close to the same age.
I was looking through the comments to see if anyone else caught that. Glad to see I wasn't the only one.
It's a pretty iconic phrase. I'm only 28, but I'm still familiar with it despite never having seen the show.
Your tongue-in-cheek approach is always amusing. Keep up the good work.
Best Stefan yet. If it flew away at the speed of light, maybe you threw it away a couple of weeks ago. Or.. maybe you'll find it in a couple of weeks, I can't remember which. I'd wear a catcher's mitt around the shop for a while just to be safe.
Some videos you can watch without sound...you are not one of them. The commentary is what brings me back each time!
Hey Tony, loved video as usual, before Ends & Odds #2 hits the big screen. Wifeyworksalot and myself would like to extend an invitation to you, Mrs. Old Tony, and of course the Tony-Tots. We feel it's unfair that you have us over so often to hang out and watch along it should be our turn to host. But please if you would, leave meatball at home. Im not sure the litter box we have on hand can handle 4130.
Well played Sir, well played. 👍
Nice one Jason. You buy that ring yet? ToT could make you one.
To The Top Crane this is a legitimate invitation, no playing comrade.
Dall Tex id prefer to ask Tony to make my wedding band lol call me selfish... but I'll just buy hers.
Glue some Neodymium magnets in your doorstep, and he'll never make in if he's not "clean"! (First check with TOT that Meatball hasn't been put on a non-ferrous diet tho') :o)
You make me want to learn metal working.
Even knowing close to nothing about what you do and have no real world usage for it, your videos are in my top 5 of enjoyable videos to watch. I so much need to expand my work-annex.
In response to your question at 7:02 Why do it right when you can do it twice. Or more!!
the entertainment value of your videos is right up there with guardians of the galaxy movies in my book!
I think I never commented on your videos before. I like to make witty comments on videos when possible but you have already made all the witty comments possible. I do have to say you have excellent videos and they are always a great view. Keep on keeping on.
thanks ARW!
Glad to see you collaborating with Keith Rucker. I love watching his channel too. Guys pretty Knowledgeable about steam engines and rebuilding them.
KEITH RUCKER!!!! WOHOOOOOO!!! Never seen that guy prank around before lol
It's the little jokes in the edit and script that makes this so much more fun to watch than the competition. Love you Tony
Nothing better than stating your Sunday with a TOT video.
Binge Watching from five years ago. Well done vids. from day one till now. happy belated anniversary.
I think my favorite thing about TOT is that when he jokes about things like putting the piece back in his bandsaw later, you know theres actually a slight chance that he would lol
I almost never subscribe to anyone, but your humor hooked me and scribed me to you. I love that extra thought you put into your editing.
Man, I want the Stefan App!
I have heard about this channel for a long time and only watched snippets, as i mainly do things with tree parts. Today i watched this entire video and I'm hooked, subscribed, and happy : ) Thank you
Had to like after the Rucker cameo. Hilarious!
I like your sense of humor, and watching you work is fascinating! Thanks for the video.
Love the Keith cameo! :D
Graphite impregnated phenolic laminate makes outstanding saw guides. Can run closer to the blade than most any other material-
Those cameos are priceless!!!! =D
Had the same issue the first time I tested stick welding with my HTP... forgot to disconnect the foot pedal. Made me feel better I am not the only one that's done this.
Great video!
Love the Keith Rucker cameo.
quite happy to stuck around at this one! Tony you become better and better every video. I can't thank you enough for doing this, it is a real highlight for me every time you upload a new video.
I Was Not Aware Stefan Could Tie A Tie , Ya See I Did Learn Something !!!!!!
I learned that in the military.
I love the old school humor, it’s the only kind I get sometimes!
The editing is hilarious
Hey Tony, What happened to the surface gauge build you had mentioned in a previous video. I would love to watch that build video!
Cool projects. Nice acting by Keith Rucker. He hasn't done a shop tour lately so it's nice to see he's upgraded to a newer phone. 😉
Stephan as Max Headroom.... pure genius! That’s a UA-cam channel I would love to see. Stephan Headroom!!!! And don’t think I’m not going to try to invent the micrometer that plugs into the usb like that now 🤣
I better register that channelname AND webadress.
You underestimate how much I’m willing to watch you make stuff. Great vid man.
The plastic plate would be called a zero clearance insert.
Dan Harold - yep, and rarely made of PVC, susceptible to heat distortion. Phenolic resin is popular and more stable.
Not that any sane person would want to do the work. But using the original from my delta 14" bandsaw as a pattern I did a green sand casting in aluminum.
This Old Tony, on my Grob bandsaw, they come in either carbide or aluminum bronze. I've made them out of silicon bronze before too! Thanks for all the wicked videos!!
Stephan Headroom, I died.
Amen. I had to explain it to my wife.
"Max Headroom"
captain obvious flies away!
actually LOL'ed. this is fantastic.
I've started watching your videos recently, and I've been loving them! I think they are kind of therapeutical and so far the only videos on youtube that i can watch from beginning to end without skipping anything!
I have now happened to be wearing my TOT shirt when watching both of your 2 most recent videos. Do I just need to wear it every day to get you to upload more often?
This Old Tony has shirts?!?!
@Kevin did you just stop wearing it? He hasn't posted in a while and I'm looking for someone to blame.
@@taboc741 😳
That bit with the caliper into the USB port killed me hahaha. This is why I'm subbed and rang the notification bell.
I've been working my way through all of your old videos, hoping to watch every upload someday. Thanks for the shop knowledge and comic relief, Tony. I am unable to do much work in my college apartment, but you have certainly given me the itch to start some metal work as soon as I'm able to.
I was just watching your ring roller video, and I get a notification heck yeah
I really like your sense of humor, makes the video entertaining as well as informative.
It's been 30+ years since I've stick welded. As soon as you struck the arc, I could smell the weld.
I have been a youtube addict for a long time. I have lots of subscriptions and the one person I get super excited to watch is TOT. I like these long videos keep it up.
To you need to design roller blade guides for the bandsaw!
I wanted to give this video a like after the end, but then i saw that i already liked it before i even watched the first minute. Thanks YOU for sticking around with us TOT.
Way more entertaining then watching some overpaid NFL players but I’m sure I’ll go back to watching them now.
I've walked away from the NFL for several years now. It's been wonderful. Just got back from the lake. Had donuts and fed the ducks with my 6 year old. Made memories. Now I'm on the toilet, getting my Tony fix. Best day ever.
Tony won't be taken a knee.
Well, hey there Dall Tex!
Dall Tex why go back to supporting the freaking NFL??? Get closer to family. Explore creative or tried and true ways to bond closer with loved ones. Further develop hobbies. Volunteer to help out disabled war veterans. Anything but the freaking NFL!!!!!
To The Top Crane hey Jimmy!
Stick welding splatter on that freshly machined fixture plate was pure sacrilegious :)
yeah a ToT upload ... made my sunday
Gosh dang Tony, those were some nice looking stick welds. I was half expecting a sloppy mess but you nailed it even on some scrap stuff that probably went in the scrap bucket.
Nothing is more permanent than a temporary solution. Or herpes. I forget which one I have.
Quite the ACT - Your Cast of Tools\ Equipment Played! BRAVO!! Nothing like a show that shines - Watched Too close, sparked in my eye. ; )
Grinder and paint will make tony the stick welder he aint, also tony, shouldn't you know that temporary is permanent until it stops working?
Lightshow Lyndale well aren’t youuuuuu special.
na, i suck at welding, just quoting AVE, for me it would be "a grinder, new weld, grind, weld, grind , grind, and paint, more paint will make me the welder I aint
@@mr.h3377 Well all I can say is you've never used a plasma welder if you suck at stick welding......with plasma you never get a bad weld ....ever......makes a gentleman out of a bum.
This old tony! Your channel is a diamant! Funny as hell and full packed with info. How cool is that! Thanks sooooooo much!!!! (Virtual hug)
This Old Tony this is unacceptable! I have been receiving my notifications LATE 10 comments en 109 bloody views LATE! This will NOT Do!
add that to youtubes list of malicious, arrogant and unforgivable crimes!!!!! The Sleezy Con Valley Traitors!!! Dawid Kellerman
Tempted to reply regarding youtube / google but I'll get all my accounts suspended and the FBI contacting authorities in my country. Its a hard life if your are not politically correct and also need/want to use content undisturbed.. Soo you keep your fingers from typing anything non PC compliant.
Tony, I just want you to know that I've been watching your channel for some time now. I've been involved with the metal trades but I am hands on with carpentry/timber and never welded in my life. I am however fascinated and inspired by what you produce in your videos. I think as much as anything it's that I share that shame dry sense of humor that you have. More power to you mate. Cheers from an Aussie subscriber.
just how loose is a goose? is that metric goose or standard?
I'd guess metric. Using Ton/Tonne as an example, a standard goose would be spelt Gos
Depends on the goose, Canadian geese well metric, domestic geese that's determined by your location. Dont forget the blues or grey geese or snow geese. After thought, I guess all geese could be considered trans measure. Side note one of the loudest sounds I've ever heard, a buddy and I were out doing some goose hunting and we had a group of about 5,000 geese come in right on top of us it took them an hour to land, anyway we were laying 10 feet apart from each other and we couldn't yell loud enough to say when. it was deafening. Then some idiot driving around in a truck drove by fired at a stray goose and just like that they were gone we arrived at 4am to set up, it was 5pm ben there all day waiting. Dump ass skyblaster. He wasnt even close enough to hit it.
My question is how loose does the goose have to be before you need to check it with a standard? Side note where does one purchase metric goose standards? Asking for a friend...
me3333 Grab a copy of the Engineers Handbook and have a gander 😀
Those Startrite bandsaws are the best ever made. I have one identical to yours only mine is the 24" model. With the blade setup just right and using the fence along with a vice I can get cuts parallel to within a ten thousands of an inch! That is milling machine accuracy!
I am going to make up some of the plastic inserts now so this video is great. Problem is in the UK all our nylon sheet it metric now - you can only buy it in 8mm or 10mm. I need 9mm - very annoying.
Sooo 15:55... coffee drinker?
That was after his 99th cup too
I bet he was testing that espresso pot he made
Love the jump cuts on the side comments. Gets me every time
Chekhov's rotary table.
That was excellent. I love the callouts to the other channels, they're so cool to play along!
Yay
Approx. 20:00 - Good to know even you makes swear jar worthy mistakes!! You need not worry about value to the viewer. Beautiful work as always, Tony!!
But who's to judge?
The micrometer. The dial indicator. The caliper... etc..
A person has to have standards or there is no way to tell truth from fiction... or tooth from friction.
Thank you Tony. Good stuff here. You always keep it educational, entertaining, and eco-friendly. Well, I pulled the last one out of thin air and what seems to be "culturally relevant" 'cause I was going after 3 "E"s and need a 3rd "E" and eco-friendly was all I could come up with. But the first two are how I really feel. Quite an excellent job. Hey, wait I just got my 3rd "E"!|
"Educational, entertaining and enveloping". Na, still not right.
That's funny because he pretends that there are people at UA-cam that you could actually talk to.
Love them all but this one especially, seeing even a master break a tool gives my hope!
Didn't you watch Stefan's video at all? That's not how you sharpen a slitting saw at all, you've got it all wrong >.
Great video Tony! I love the cameos. I can’t wait to see a Diresta cameo. He talks about you all the time on his podcast.
Repping the tig finger from my buddy Jody at Welding Tips and Tricks. Awesome accessory.
Loved the escapement wheel! Brilliant!
Tony, keep the oddball videos like this rollin'! They always end up being a great showcase for comedy, editing and the inevitable tie in to the blood space wars. Thanks for all the work you put into keeping us weirdos on the internet entertained.
10:31 Totally broke me. I'll be thinking of this all year.
