I've lived most of my life in Washington state and never knew this was filmed in Spokane. That's pretty neat!

I don't know how many days you are in Spokane for but there's some pretty cool abandoned places north of Spokane and a thing called the Thousand Steps which is pretty cool it's fun to do it at night I've done it several times with friends.

I love this movie, and a big part of that is the FEEL, which comes from the location. Such a cool video as always, Adam! BTW, I've been a TDW subscriber for years and I'm going back through ATW videos I may have missed in the past!

After 25 years, I finally watched Benny And Joon last night. I thought it was enjoyable. Don't know why it took me so long to see it. There is a few that slipped past the cracks from my early high school years. Finally watched heathers a few weekends ago. I thought you did a fabulous job on the video. Since the movie is so fresh in my mind, I thought I recalled you had this out, but wanted to watch it after I actually seen the movie itself. Kudos!

One of the best editing jobs you've done, I really liked how you incorporated the actual movie scenes...The people of Spokane appear to be very friendly and welcoming...Enjoy your time there because once you get back home it's countdown time!
This is so cool. No snark, no exaggeration, this movie literally changed my life. I had just graduated high school, I had NO IDEA what I wanted to do with my life. I saw this movie and that scene in the park changed me. It was truly magical. THAT’s what I wanted to do! I wanted to be a comedic performer. And here it is in 2022, I have a show tonight performing, have a party tomorrow as well. I’ve entertained thousands of people. I’ve worked for Ringling Bros and I met my fiancée all through my clowning. And it was this movie that inspired me. Oddly, the writer of the film, Barry Berman, was a Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey Clown College graduate himself.
I used to work behind, what was Benny's Car Clinic, just before they started filming. I had a job tossing and stacking tires. Also, I was lucky enough to watch them film one of the scenes in Riverfront Park. By the way, Adam, I'm from Spokane, but am now in Columbus, Ohio.
Oh hi Adam....yeah...its me....the guy from Nelson BC Canada again. For some reason, I forgot to mention that the Steve Martin Movie "ROXANNE"was filmed here in 1986. Also "House Keeping" ...A Disney film called "The magic in the Water" . A Willie Nelson / Rae Dawn Chong movie of which the name escapes me. "The Tall Man" with Jessica Beil (stinker). Cher used to have a summer home here. Yup.....you need to come.....so.....when do I expect you? I vacummed the spare bedroom, put on fresh sheets and fluffed the pillows. Not to mention I've loaded up on hummus.
I think I would have kept the sunroom/art studio, which was FABULOUS!!!!
The movie Vision Quest was also filmed in Spokane, the Syfy channel currently films a TV series called
Z Nation in Spokane, they film most of the Z Nation show in an old industrial park in North Spokane ,I just drove by it the other day and they were filming and zombies were walking everywhere

That's the only bad thing about making UA-cam videos, is the awkwardness of it when you're trying to film these things that are dear to you and most everyone else finds it strange and doesn't get it lol. Who performs your theme song?
Actually, as the video clearly showed too it was Benny's Car Clinic not Car Care. Also, logically either a lot has changed or a lot the same, cannot be both, I'd say some change but some are still the same. That would be more appropriate. Despite these minor flaws, nice video. Kudos!
Funny the connections between Benny & Joon and Vision Quest. Both films filmed at Ferguson's and Loudin's house in Vision Quest is right next to the park from the bus scene in Benny & Joon.

I live in Spokane and I was able to watch the filming of most of the scenes especially the ones in Riverfront Park it was a blast! My sister designed the gifts from Johnny Depp (tee shirts) I got to meet him in his trailer while she got the final ok on the graphics what a cool time.
Johnny Depp was in Crown Point , Indiana for a brief time in 2008 or 9 ...shooting scenes in the square for the movie John Dillinger because in 1932 he escaped the jail there with a gun carved out of wood that his crooked lawyer smuggled in to him . My route to work was detoured around to the next block for a few weeks till they were finished .The square is shown in the movie with a few added vintage items to make it look like the late 30s . One weird thing about Johnny Depp that I have read a many times.....he claims he never watches the final finished movie that he just starred in . I find that hard to believe .
Hadn't seen this one yet. I loved the movie and had no idea it's been filmed in WA! The early Johnny Depp movies are my favorites. I think your movie locations are my 2nd favorite of your topics, so far. You not only show them, but always add really tight lesser-known facts. Plus, in my opinion, your easy way with people often gets you access to the inaccessible. Well done, Woo-man!! Safe travels.
+adamthewoo do you have an email address for filming location suggestions? and are you going to make it back down to Florida there are a couple pretty awesome abandon places i can recommend to you in my city in northeast Florida, like this awesome abandoned funeral home from the 1800s that still has power!!! so you wont be filming in the dark, though it probably makes it dangerous.. but there are old documents of burials from 1800s early 1900s that cost three F$&#N dollars!! including creepy chapel with really old timely decaying decor, chandlers, and a bunch caskets as well as all kinds of really creepy crazy shit in including a old abandon hearse in the garage! love to see you film the location.
I love this video and the movie. J Depp does an awesome job with humerus parts from well know comics Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin, and Harold Lloyd. I enjoyed the way you cut the video in and out from the film to your video.
The opening scene where Johnny Depp is riding the train coming into town is filmed on a train in Ione Washington ,hour north of Spokane. The Lions Club runs the train for fundraisers in the summertime it's a pretty fun ride and they go over that big train trestle that is in the opening shots

The Lions Club moved it to Newport, Wa recently. The train bridge going across the river (north of Ione) isnt up to federal safety standards any longer.
Great video! I grew up in Spokane WA but moved away after high school. It's been almost 30 years since I have been able to get back. It's a great city and I miss it. Benny and Joon is a very cool movie... especially when I want to reminisce.

I live here and we are always proud to show visiting family and friends the filming locations. I saw some of it being filmed too. A scene with Aidan Quinn and Oliver Platt. My sister and her husband used to own Ferguson's Diner as well.
I haven't seen that movie in 20+ years! and have totally forgotten about it!

I had never heard of Benny and Joon until I watched your video. I just finished watching Benny and Joon for the first time. I loved the movie. Thank you Adam for introducing me to Benny and Joon.
That's cool that they let you into those places. I love how moving directors can't stand too much realism in their moves. They go to a real working class town like Spokane. But then try to make it look all fancy, with glitzy signs on a simple auto repair shop, and build a giant fake addition on to a small modest house. So much work to go through, to make it not so realistic.
