- Teardown and look inside of the new Apple Homepod Mini!
If you want to take your's apart this tool kit includes all the special screw drivers to open your Homepod Mini tools compatible: amzn.to/3lKwehA
The metal and rubber assemblies on the sides are actually passive radiators. They improve bass response by being excited by the back wave of the main driver to improve bass response without requiring a bigger enclosure. The principle is similar to bass reflex ports but arguably better suited for tiny speakers.
Also commonly found on Bluetooth speakers and even some sealed subwoofers (usually nicer ones that aren’t high-end enough to have two active drivers).
i know and he said it is some rubber and metal..... i got so annoyed

This is the reason I came to the comment section!
@@Noah-Lach hi
Let’s be honest, I do think this kind of quality with the Apple branding effects at such a price point is impressive
It’s no small feat…
I agree, i returned the HomePod because i think the minis are the most bang for your buck!
*It’s perfect for me. The size is exactly **Newest.Technology** what I needed. The sound is loud enough for me to hear without having to turn it higher. Suggestions on various uses is extremely helpful! Worth every dollar spent!*
The inside of apple product is alaways so satisfying
They are always nothing like the PCs I used to build. Tiny connectors and 1,500 hidden torx screws. After I killed the display on my iMac, I decided to stop trying to do surgery on Apple products. Arduino parts are much cheaper and much easier to connect for such hobbyist thrills.
Those black PCBs are awesome and don’t even cost that much more. Would’ve been nice to see them on the new consoles but I guess Sony and MS don’t want to spend an extra $0.50 per unit purely for aesthetics.
@@Noah-Lach factor in a few million units and those additional costs add up to a nice fat amount
@@michaelbuckelew why do yall got be like that . yall android windows users always have to interfere with everything . what are you doing on this video ? you just came here to bad mouth apple . let us enjoy our stuff
@@ldtworks1052 how did he bad mouth Apple?
I used to take all sorts of things to bits when I was a kid, which was a real annoyance to my parents, such as their carriage clocks etc. But now I enjoy watching others taking things to bits. Excellent video.
Haha I did the same as a kid!
Was waiting for such a teardown video, nice job done. This is is definitely better internally than Amazon Echo Dot or Google Home.
you bet!
Are those like when you get to your car’s factory speakers and realize that they’re made out of paper? I’ve had that with every car of mine. After hearing the HomePod mini at $99, I want Apple in charge of every bit of audio in my car.
Was just playing some music on my echo dot, and the Homepod mini is much better.
Your teardowns are just so clean and "surgical". Keep it up.
Thanks!
I'm learning English in Japan. I'm still in the middle of it, but when I listen to English on this channel, I'm gradually getting to know it.
konichiwa
this helped me get rid of the red swirl of death by leaving the touch sensor disconnected. Thank You!!!
Yesssss I’ve been waiting for this thanks for sacrificing this poor thing
haha had to be done, and it stll works :)
Looks clean af on the inside
Great video! This thing is so cool on the inside! Looks slightly easier to disassemble than the full-sized model, and would be interested to see how easy it is to put back together.
Wow! This is a marvellous piece of work for the price it's being sold at.
These would be pretty cool to implement into a wall or ceiling. For the ultra smart home vibe
lots of screws for a mini. I'm impress to see what's inside. This is quality.
I can't believe it took so long to get this video! I think you're the first and I thank you.
Was going back and forth about filming it and glad I did!
@@brandon20904 Teardowns always have interest. Especially Apple products. Oh btw, you can power the Mini off a battery if it supports PD 3.0. It seems to last several days.
Nice work, mate!
Would watch the video of you putting it back together, too ;)
For what’s inside of it I’m really impressed with the sound & bass
Very clean teardown
I wasn’t planning on buy one but bought it as a computer speaker on my new mac mini for my Zoom calls. I chose the homepod mini because I had an extra 30w usb-c slot on an anker multiport charger but no more wall outlets available. Also airplay works great from computer to homepod.
it comes with its own brick tho
@@mastertvlogs8737 I don’t have a plug for a single usb-c brick. I am using an anker 60w dual usb-c
can it play in stereo(two mini's) computer to HomePod?
@@minishyam1992 haven’t tried it but Homepod was a bad idea for video calls on my computer. Has like a two second lag. It was pointless for my mac. But I still use it to play my toddlers lullaby before bed.
Awesome video, could anybody install the motherboard to a bigger speaker? ... lets say to a onko or sony or any speaker?
I’m surprised that Apple could make something that easy and not as destructive to take apart!
The mini reminds me of the small round wonderboom speaker but with a cord
Really cool video thanks.. love my HomePod mini stereo pair👌🏼👌🏼
You beat JerryRigEverything to the punch 👏 He's gonna be pissed 😂
If only he would collab with me :)
@Pod no he isn’t.
@Pod bruh why?
@Pod no you
@Pod Give a reason.
Thanks Brandon
Absolutely dope af that Apple can make an item that in most non tech and tech peoples eyes seem simple and easy ‘oh it’s just a speaker’ when you delve in it’s construction is more than impressive and you definitely get what you pay for. As a fanboy or enthusiast I love that in my head it’s so justified because of the thought and attention to detail that goes into to every product…except them damn new replacement cases instead of leather lol.
Love my Apple Eco house and the walled garden…
Thanks for keeping my data safe Tim
Love, Purpose n Peace MCD
About your data. They do the same as others
I want now to teardown mine .... and try to plug a amp & an analog speaker instead of the original speaker .... and having the choice of speaker :D
i want to color the mesh, any ideas how to do that?
There’s a YT channel here for ‘Nic’s Fix’ I know he’s been dyeing the meshes for the bigger HomePod
Interesting. Was looking into getting one of these that’s broken but I don’t have a hot air station incase one of the chips are bad.
Looks like a nightmare to repair.
Wooow its amazing...wanna big surprise to see this teardown...👍
Really cool!
Now if I can figure out how to wire this into a receiver to make a better speaker since I find these kinda boomy unless placed a good distance away from a wall.
Now to hook it up to a decent bookshelf speaker. What's the impedance of the speaker?
Thanks
Nice bro all the best🤞
bagus ang ni barai speaker homepod mini ni, pas ni boleh pasang balik buat video lagi satu. tapi term passive radiators tu silap sikit. ok la boleh la
Thank You 🙏🏾 Curious 🧐
Excelente aporte y gracias por mostrarnos como es por dentro este parlante.......Saludos
I thought there are two speakers inside... how come its soo loud with one small speaker
crazy apple engineers :)
The speaker on the bottom is a subwoofer and the “metal and rubber” on the sides were the tweeters, so it has 3 speakers. If you pick one up while it’s playing you’ll hear voices coming from the sides and then bass coming from the bottom, it’s a really interesting design
There are a lot of small (1inch , 1.5 inch , 2 inch) full range speaker drivers out there now a days. They have power rated like from 1W to 15W (may be more). Reason they have more power for the size is thanks to
neodymium magnets. For producing bass with these speaker drivers, passive radiator (two on the metal body) can be used.
@@matteo94164 unless I’m wrong and I might but the side pieces are radiators.. that help amplify the shockwaves from the base they aren’t electrical at all they are just metal and rubber that vibrate. Tweeters are speakers for catching high pitched sounds
Good job!
Thanks!
Thanks a lot. Great video
Now put it back together perfectly! 😂
Once the fabric was removed I saw a miniature black Death Star and I can’t un-see it.
Slick jump cut, I would’ve edited out the part where I broke the 2nd ribbon cable too.
So, is it just mono speaker?
Does it sound better without the fabric cover? I’m guessing the fabric cover muffles the sound a little. My speakers sound better in my home stereo without the cover. I can tell.
What‘s the diameter of the full range driver?
That looked like a right bastard to disassemble, hopefully the cables on my pair of HPM doesn't break
Dan you remove the fabric so you can wash it? I have a white HomePod and over a year later with cats rubbing on it they are filthy.
Looks like the Death Star
Thankyou! Yes it does
Hm, so there is the mini with a single full-spectrum speaker at €100 and the regular Homepod with six tweeters + woofer at €350...looks like there would be room in the lineup for a Homepod midi with 3+1 at €200?
Well done 👍
Thanks!
My homepod mini is shaking while playing this by itself
Speaker looks interesting
About 20$ worth of parts, the rest are profit and labor, engineering, advertising and whatever else you can think of.
Show me a 20$ speaker which sounds as good as home pod mini?😏
also shipping , keeping the apple stores power on , tax etc.
And other companies sell crap with parts worth 10$ and sell it for 60$, and it still sounds like 1$! Obviously, you buy their crap, instead of a solid product. Oh, btw, am I Right in guessing you don’t own one single Apple device?
Could you connect different speakers to the display and for example hide it in a wall
Hello Apple HOMEPOD schematic?
Given it’s low price point, one has to wonder what Apple intends to do to make money from it. That’s some substantial BOM cost right there.
It could be they plan it to be similar to the iPod shuffle. Get people into the Apple and HomeKit ecosystems. I bought one to use at work instead of the Bluetooth speakers we had used, which were great until the person whose phone served the music walked out of range. One person already asked me if they sold those things everywhere.
It’s interesting. Maybe it’s used as a loss leader to get people into Apple’s ecosystem. Also if people have one of these at home that otherwise wouldn’t have, they then may buy more or have a friend round for instance that then sees what it can do etc. etc. I’m firmly ensconced in the Apple system and I love it!
It´s kinda the same thing they do with the entry-level iPad. It´s a budget device to get people into their ecosystem. Also as a way to keep you inside. If you´re an iPhone user and are looking for a speaker, you´ll see this HomePod Mini price and maybe you´ll get it. You´ll love it, and due to its low cost, you´ll likely get more for other rooms. When it´s time to upgrade your phone, you´ll realize you need an iPhone to use your HomePods and will have to upgrade to another iPhone.
Apple is smart, that's why it´s the most valuable company in the world.
Most people on UA-cam who do reviews all say it’s expensive. Reasonable i think.
@@michaelw6104 it is indeed very reasonable given what they are getting back. I will be ordering one next week as I’ve done overtime last week to cover it and want to play. I shall be doing traffic analysis to see what I can learn and careful listening to it’s audio quality, but the main reason is I want to listen to Melvyn Bragg’s ‘In Our Time’ podcasts while in the shower. DO YOU HEAR THET APPLE!?
I broke off the plastic latch on the ribbon connector
no battery inside the homepod mini speaker?
It was be great to know the TS parameters of the speaker driver
I have hompepod mini, sound is great, but afte 1,5 year the bass is cracking like cheap speaker, anyone else has same problem like me? Or maybe anyone have suggestion to repair it?
How big is that one and only physical speaker? Better yet what is the width of that speaker say in inches?
All this screws
the card flex
The midbass is boosted to disgusting levels, I much prefer the frequency response of even the 15 pro speakers
Your video is called what’s inside HomePod mini we watch do you take it apart and we still don’t know what’s inside of it lol
Just curious, what is the speaker cone made of? Is it paper with a fabric surround?
It looks as if the usbC cord can be modified to be a port instead of a cord
the charger will just get lost . a cord is better for something that is not gonna move all the time
Finally somone who doesnt cut the fur off and ruins it like somone who i know thats named “whats inside” yeah whats inside just destroys stuff
Adhesived 😂 cuz the word adhered wasn’t good enough.
haha my vocabulary sucks!
@@brandon20904 i would’ve said glued lmao
do you have a list of all the chipsets?
What’s is the speaker watts ?
20W
iFixit should hire you lol
Ditto :)
Bro I thought the tie-dye shirt lookin thing on the top was a screen but it’s actually just some LED’s😭
They are $69 now which makes it one of the cheapest Apple products you can buy, which is honestly honestly kind of bizarre if you think about it. Imagine if these things were wireless.
MOMMMMMM!!!!!!
Brandon broke the speaker you bought him!!!!!
And he's talking to himself again!!!
Can I have his room when you send him to the nut house?
Do you have a HomePod Mini? Like wenn you have one
Where is the tweet?
There isn’t one. Full range driver with cone to disperse the sound 360°.
I made a HomePod mini inspired enclosure for some tiny speakers and they sound great considering they came out of a $10 wired portable speaker from 8+ years ago
good video i like it
first view
0:20 I used the apple to destroy the apple
like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....
A friggin computer !
How many screws do you need to make a small speaker?
Apple: YES
Please take apart a Galaxy watch!
Plot twist: the white HomePod mini is actually black 😲
mesh fabric... so the homepod is a literal apple?
This must be the most over engineered speaker ever made.
Jerryrigeverthing whould do this video
Many are here to just see speaker driver.
You really got to do a little more research before you make your videos it was pretty good but it would be nice to know what you’re tearing apart the rubber thingies on the side or passive radiators for bass wire towards the bottom that you thought was a microphone is a temperature and humidity sensor the speaker how many watts is it those are the things we would really like to know not just see it ripped apart and not know what you’re tearing apart
AND?
Metal and rubber? Really? You’re not experienced enough. Those are passive radiators damnit!
Taking a speaker apart and speaking about all the little bits and pieces only to mention oh and this is the speaker, without going into more details about the most important component 🤣 that’s like taking apart a car and only briefly mention oh by the way this is the engine...
Mini home pod basicly siri
Bleah PLASTIC? Really? BLEAH. 😩😭 JONY COME BACK PLEASEEE
my HomePod mini looks like a human eyeball all it needs is eye lashes
Apple's e-waster.
pretty sure they'll accept these for recycling at their stores
