I am quite scrupulous and currently going through a really rough time with despair, I've almost completely given up until today. I will be using this Lent to hopefully rebuild and strengthen my faith. I'm going to be focusing mostly on getting a good amount of sleep and praying more consistently, particularly with the Rosary and the Jesus Prayer. Hopefully this will guide me back to the sacraments and the fullness of God's grace. St. Micheal, pray for us!
I’m so sorry for what your going thru. I pray that God will bring you peace during this time. You are not alone. Jesus, our Lord our God, loves you so much.
Read St Therese of Lisieux, A Story of a Soul. She really struggled with being scrupulous, and she overcame it. I've got the book and I can see if I can find the section as I can't recall how she overcame it.
In his last Saint Michael's Lent in 1224 (that's 800 years ago), one night around the Feast of the Exultation of the Cross, Saint Francis of Assisi was deeply in prayer and contemplation of the Passion of Christ in Mount La Verna (Tuscany in Italy). Suddenly, a Seraph appeared to Him and imprinted in his flesh the Stigmata of Our Lord Jesus Christ. On the 29th of September that year, he said his last goodbye to La Verna for He knew that the Lord has already completed His work in Him being crowned with the Wounds of Christ. Later as he recollect the event, he identified the Seraph as the Crucified Lord. He bore the Stigmata for two years until his death in 1226. As Franciscans, we remember this event in the life of our Founder every September 17, and this year is very special as we celebrate its 8th centenary. So doing the Saint Michael's Lent gives us the opportunity to be closer to the God, and certainly, if He wills, He can also imprint Himself in us, but only if we let ourselves be transformed by Christ!
Thank you for enlightening me. I went through 16 years of Catholic education and was not aware of this other Lent. At Michael is also the patron saint of us in law enforcement. By coincidence I am wearing a Tshirt with St Michael on the back. I will start small like you suggested and prayer the prayer to St Michael daily during this lent and cut back on tv and phone time
Thank you for this! Fr. Mike Schmitz also has a video on this today. Ever since I came back to the flock, St. Michael has been my guide and Mary has been my peace. I started praying the rosary daily, and I am going to confession and Sunday mass again. Something has drawn me to them, and it has deepened my love and appreciation for Christ. The Holy Spirit speaks louder and clearer to me now more than ever. I am 43 and feel like I have just awakened from a long exhausting hazy dream. But I know the road is narrow and St. Michael has sparked a warrior Spirit within me. All for Christ. I am humbled but I fight the Adversary daily. Ups and downs. Highs and lows. I am taking your example and giving up coffee. Also no Instagram. No phone after 9pm. And I will pray to St. Michael daily, either a Novena, Hymn or prayer of devotion. God bless!
1 Peter 1 KJV 23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. 24 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: 25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you. 1 Corinthians 15 KJV ✝️🩸 1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: Romans 3 KJV 🩸 23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
I'm planning to pray the Chaplet of St. Michael every day and fast a few days a week. I've been discerning the priesthood, so I'm hoping this time will not only bring me closer to God, but also help me in my discernment.
Yeah, but it has become to feel different im our culture. Giving something up can be solitary and only for me. Offering up always has the Focus on someone else, in this case, God
We have a 24 hour perpetual adoration Chapel at my church and I am assigned to two different days for an hour each a week. I’m going to spend a third hour during this Lent. I’m also going to give up sweets. ( I actually just got that idea from you!) I tend to eat ice cream going to bed and I’m going to give that up. Finally I’m going to say the chaplet of St Michael every day, I’ve always wanted to. The best part is that I never knew about this Lent before yesterday and I was so excited because September 29, 2016 is when I had a supernatural experience with Jesus, which brought me back to the Catholic Church after many years of almost atheism -drugs, alcohol, and lots of anger. September 29 was a very incredible day and it wasn’t until years later I learned was the feast day of the archangels. Thank you so much for sharing. I’ll be thinking of you during this time. It’s so cool it starts on this Holy Day of Mary-I am giving communion today, this is a great start! Thank you!
Thanks for explaining this! I'm not catholic, and have never practiced Lent, but I am very interested in the Catholic faith and I will be participating in this! I am giving up alcohol. Just need a reason to treat my body with more love and care.
i did St. Micheal's lent last year. i think it gave me some gifts though i dont really know. i felt i was able to resist temptations easily and felt really passionate about my faith. here's to hoping the same happens this year.
Saint Michael's lent has become a huge thing in Brazil. Millions of brazilians (including myself) wake up at 4am every day to pray the rosary (see channels like Frei Gilson / Som do Monte - OFICIAL or Ir Kelly Patricia OFICIAL / Instituto Hesed), and even more pray it during the day. I'm constantly amazed by how many lives have changed and how many miracles happen during this time. It's been a blessing. If you're thinking about starting it but fear you won't have strenght to do it, start doing it anyway. It's a spiritual battle, but the victory is already yours!
I start RCIA this September so this is my first time even doing a lent at all. I’m going to do a daily rosary and completely cut off social media (aside from YT lol that’s my TV pretty much) and try and focus on God instead of wasting time on social media alllll day and night. Might get my GF in on it too. Great video!
That is amazing I had no idea it existed so I'm definitely doing it. I'm thinking of turning social media off after 7.30pm like you and then just watch my intake of snacks and coffee but I don't think I will be able to completely give it up, so just reduce it will be sustainable for me. I will also fast tomorrow (August 15th), and fast on every Fridays until the end of Lent which is September 29th
Thank you for letting us know. Never heard of this before today. I’m definitely in. I think about the chastisement ahead and how weak I am. Offering it up for salvation of souls and conversion. Not sure plan yet. Fasting Wednesdays and Fridays, weekly Adoration and turning off cell phone for a period each day a good start for me.
I’m going to be giving up eating junk food while at work. I tend to eat a lot of unnecessary stuff while working. It’s made me gain some weight and I know I need to cut that stuff out. I’m also adding The Saint Michael Prayer to my daily routine.
Actually just heard about this today and decided I was doing it. No sugars, no carbs. I've done the quit coffee thing before, but I work 12 to 13 hour shifts and we alternate days and nights, so I'm just going to cut back. Cold showers. Complete fast, water only, Wednesdays and Fridays. I do the rosary everyday with a St Michael prayer at the end already, but I was going to do the St Michael chaplet as well.
Im using the Exodus 90 app it has some good suggestions I'm going to do daily reading and reflections on the book of Tobit, 30 minutes of silent prayer, make a morning offering, make a nightly examination of conscience, Full 8 hours sleep, wake up the same time each day. No Snoozing the alarm, No social media or news, fast every day having one meal without diary and meat at 3 pm. (Eastern Lenten fasting) not including Sundays. Cold shower Wednesday and Friday. Hold Vigil for one hour Friday at 2 am. One Holy hour a week and going to church on Sunday. Come at a perfect time for me I have nothing on and it will bring me closer to the Lord. Great video.
Every year I do my best to give up coffee (almost every day) during Lent. The first year it was very difficult, but at least for me (I love coffee) this is a meaningful sacrifice.
I feel really sad that I was so poorly formed as a Catholic child that I became an atheist. I think if I had a more in depth understanding, like what is dicussed here, I wouldn't have strayed. But maybe it was God's plan. I don't know, I'm just a humble sinner. But I'm very thankful for youtubers like you who help reform me. I'll be sure to pass it on to my kids.
Thank you very much for this. I have seen fr. Mike's recent video but I didn't really understood what to do. You have explained everything very clear. I am giving up watching korean dramas, will pray the St. Michael's chaplet everyday and cold shower for me x
This year I will be praying the St. Michael Chaplet every morning. Last year I used a video series here on You Tube with a Traditional priest. The channel is St. Stephen Catholic Church PDX.
This will be my third year in a row doing the St Michael Lent. Remember to do the St Michael Novena for the last nine days before Sept 29th. 🙏🏼 ✝️😇🛡️🗡️
I have no washing machine, no AC even though it's 110 degrees everyday, I am a volunteer firefighter and have been for 20 years. I can't drink coffee or eat chocolate because of heartburn. So the only thing I could give up is my tablet. I am going to do the Angelic crown for the foreseeable future. On Michaelmas I will have a special meal.
I pray the St Michaels prayer after my daily rosary but will now add the St Michael chaplet every day sling with my other daily prayers . Also fasting .
This is awesome. As St Michael is my namesake. What I think is also great about this is it spices up the Ordinary Time in the church lol. Sure sure, we need remember to still be prayful in between seasons but from Pentecost to Advent is pretty open haha. Well, I'm already starting this St Michael Lent going to a Catholic Single Conference in Las Vegas (this weekend) so a bunch of prayer and fellowship. I'm going to mediate what this Lent should be. If regular Lent is more reserve maybe this Lent should be more physical. I'm military so I'm approaching this at that angle.
I am offering up my worry to the Lord. Also, i am following the 40 days of meditation in the book called the Grandeurs of St Michael, in addition to my regular prayer and scripture readings. Finally I am on a complete ban of social media this is my last post for 40 days God bless all those who are participating
I’ll be diligent in my prayer life and give up some TV at night. I can read to relax. I will practice quiet time with God daily. ‘He leads me beside still waters.’ Rest is important and often ignored.
I would also recommend praying the Chaplet of Saint Michael during this time. I will be partaking in my first Saint Michael's Lent. Please pray for me.
After my own research. Im going to treat this as a mini lent. Im giving up Gatorade and doing a food and water fast on one of my days off. Im game though. Ill start doing this on top of lent every year. Thanks for sharing.
Please don't give up, that's what the devil want's. Believe me God doesn't work on our time. He has something way better than you can imagine just for you. In the most difficult times we think we are all alone that we are doing everything by ourselves but actually God is right by our side. I pray that God's face shine on you and he shows you his love. Praying for you.
I'm doing it this year, having recently returned to the faith... this seems like a good exercise in obedience and humility... virtue building is all we can do to be closer to God Prayers with all supporting Lent 2 lol
I first heard it from father Mike I think it’s great and I will participate in this Saint Michael the archangels Lent I will be praying the novena of Saint Michael the Archangel and other prayers not sure what to give up yet
I am interested in this, If I am to give up anything, it should be UA-cam. I know I spend way too much time on here and I am not always watching good things like your channel, A lot of times I am just mindlessly scrolling on shorts. Thank you for bringing this up. I will go do some of my own research and see if this is something I want to do. Have a blessed day.
I think I'll try to get back on the carnivore diet and giving up the relaxed keto diet I've been doing. No more keto deserts and the occasional carb loads.
There are 4 major Fasts in the Orthodox Church. Great Lent, the Apostles Fast, Dormition, and Nativity. Nativity is 40 days. The Apostles Fast and Dormition are between 2 and 3 weeks typically.
Oh I didn’t know about this lent. For your consideration, I gave up coffee for three months last summer, and I didn’t know what I was getting into because I never drank coffee regularly, so I thought I was “immune” to coffee, I was like oh! This is going to be easy because I’m able to skip it for a few days, I never have issues with sleep, etc. These days my humble suggestion at least during the first week is to reduce the number of cups if you take more than one per day, or do half a cup if you only take one per day. I crashed so hard for three weeks by going cold turkey, it was not fun. I developed a new respect for coffee 😂😂 and I can see how it’s described as drug. It is worthy to go through the experience, just ease into it.
One prayer I highly recommend everyone do during this time is an Examen. Praying it daily makes it easier to go into Confession because you obtain a clear understanding of your flaws and sins and how you can work to overcome them.
I saw what you did. Never gonna give you up in the time stamps LOL. Got rick rolled. Thanks for the info though :) Wish I learned about it earlier to plan it.
What’s really hard about giving up my phone is that even when I use the GPS, it counts towards actively using the phone despite using it to drive around to places. It never used to do that until it noticed I wasn’t using it as much so not it literally counts every minute I use it. It’s encouraging me to keep using the phone. It’s awful. I’ll use my phone just for responding to text messages, answering phone calls, listening to a podcast while driving, using the gps, and it COUNTS EVERY SECOND. Be aware of what it is you’re using the phone for. I have been starting to disregard the amount of time I use the phone for. Edit: today’s usage for my GPS was 3hr 11m. And it counts that as my active phone usage. It never did that when I started using my phone less.
One year I gave up coffee as a New Years resolution, and that reduction of acid in my diet caused a kidney stone. Might I suggest adding lemon water to your diet if you give up coffee to prevent such an outcome. Thank you for this video. I'm a cradle Catholic and had never heard of St. Michael's lent before.
You know… there are actually 4 Lenten fasting periods in the Orthodox Church ☦️ 1. Triodion and Great Lent: 3 weeks then 30 Days before Pascha 2. st Phillips Fast : 40 days before Christmas 3. sts. Peter and Paul Fast: depending on when Pascha falls between 1 day to 3 weeks 4. Dormition Fast: Aug 1 to Aug 15 till after Divine Liturgy Not to mention most Wednesdays and Fridays of the year except for the Fast Free weeks. I think the Latin Trads still have some of these fasts , and also the Uniate Eastern Rite Catholics seem to retain most of their traditions from before Latinization.
I've started St. Michael's Lent. It went really well today and I hope I can stick with it. I wish I could find a group to do it with but it seems like everybody is doing it with Exodus90.
"Don't pray for four hours", to avoid burnout. Same breath: "I'm giving up coffee." Did you hit your head? Coffee is not a luxury, it's a necessity. Thank you for sharing. Pax Christi.
It's the third Lent. Second Lent is from St martin's day to Christmas. My country kept the shrove tuesday like feast but ditched the Lent ... of course
Ephesians 2:4 KJV "But GOD, who is rich in mercy, for HIS great love wherewith HE loved us, 5 even when we were dead in sins, has quickened us (made us alive) together with CHRIST, by grace you are saved 7 that in the ages to come HE might show the exceeding riches of HIS grace in HIS kindness toward us through CHRIST JESUS. 8 For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of GOD: 9 not of works, lest any man should boast." 2 Timothy 1:9 KJV (GOD) "Who has saved us, and called us with an Holy Calling, not according to our works, but according to HIS own purpose and grace, which was given us in CHRIST JESUS before the world began" Titus 1:16 KJV "They profess that they know GOD; but in works they deny HIM, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work (fruit of the SPIRIT) reprobate."
I have been a Catholic all my life and have never heard of St Michael’s lent I have even being doing a lot of research into the church and have never come across it 😅 how did you find it? 😅 I feel so silly lol anyway I’m going to be limiting my UA-cam time because it eats up so so much of my free time and has become sort of an idol along with shopping for makeup and other non essential things 🙈 but I have cleared my makeup collection and feel so so much better spiritually I feel like there is not so much of a battle now to pray 🙏🏼🥹 so to sum it up I’m giving up UA-cam except for couple videos a day and taking cold showers (wish me luck 🥶❄️🧊 lol) and not buying non essential products 🙏🏼🕊️✝️
Fasting and prayer is the way of the One Holy Apostolic Catholic Christian Church of Traditional Teachings and Worship from so so so so far far far back it its still being done by faithful Catholics amen alleluia Deo Gratis Gloria In Excelsis Deo thank you my blessed Catholic Brother 🙏🐑🕊️✨🔥
I am quite scrupulous and currently going through a really rough time with despair, I've almost completely given up until today. Read St Therese of Lisieux, A Story of a Soul. She really struggled with being scrupulous, and she overcame it. I've got the book and I can see if I can find the section as I can't recall how she overcame it.
prayers for you
Been going through very similar lately.
God bless you, you will be in my prayers!
Hang in there. Don't beat yourself up. Praying for you.

I'm planning to pray the Chaplet of St. Michael every day and fast a few days a week. I've been discerning the priesthood, so I'm hoping this time will not only bring me closer to God, but also help me in my discernment.
Our Lady of the Assumption, pray for us! St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle!🙏❤️
Good of you mentioning this! I will also be involved with my family. May St. Michael intercede for us so we do not waiver during this lent 🙏
Nice! What are you all giving up/taking on for St Michael's Lent?
Yes our Parish is going to do it this year! First I've ever heard of it!
My priest always says we are not giving something up. We are offering it up. Thank you for video. Deo gratias
Both words are ok and mean the same thing.
Yes, thats what giving means! 😂
Yeah, but it has become to feel different im our culture. Giving something up can be solitary and only for me. Offering up always has the Focus on someone else, in this case, God
@@i.b.640 This is why my priest asks us to use. the phrase offering it up. Thank you for your comment
I’m doing St. Michael’s Lent with Exodus 90. (highly recommend) Pray for us!
Likewise.
I can't get signed up to that, l don't know if it's because I'm not in the States
Ahhh oh yes that’s right! Thank you for the reminder!
When i did exodus 90 earlier this year there were people from Germany doing it as well@@Needahandle-d4v

St Francis of Assisi is my confirmation Saint! I had not heard of this before today, I'm definitely going to participate!
"We've had first Lent, yes... but what about second Lent?"
When you're about to go on a week-long cruise: 😟
😂I love this
I wish I heard about this earlier😕 I will start tomorrow tho

My protestant brother and I are doing the Exodus 90 version of the Lent.
Hopefully by the end he converts like I did 😂😂
Thank you. I was never aware of this. I plan to make this a part of my prayer life. A second Lent. I love it. God bless you .
I dont know that this devotion exist. Thank you! Im excited to do this! God bless you

I am offering up my worry to the Lord. Also, i am following the 40 days of meditation in the book called the Grandeurs of St Michael, in addition to my regular prayer and scripture readings. Finally I am on a complete ban of social media this is my last post for 40 days God bless all those who are participating
Fun fact: Advent used to be a period of fasting as well.
we should bring back and remember more of these old traditions.
Still is in the East. ☦️
@@birdman1325 True, especially with how Christmas is treated in the secular world.
@bradleyperry1735 Indeed. Pious Orthodox may be the only Americans who don't gain weight from Thanksgiving to Christmas!
@@NMemone That’s pretty funny.
Oh my goodness I have been telling myself for weeks that I need to stop eating popcorn. Guess what I’m giving up for Lent? Thank you!!🙏
If you don't get sleep. Pray the Rosary. It's better than being on the phone.
I’ll be diligent in my prayer life and give up some TV at night. I can read to relax. I will practice quiet time with God daily. ‘He leads me beside still waters.’ Rest is important and often ignored.
No more warm showers
Start praying 2 saint Michael prayers everyday
Give to church collection
I would also recommend praying the Chaplet of Saint Michael during this time. I will be partaking in my first Saint Michael's Lent. Please pray for me.
I'm stopping alcohol. Pretty big for me. Who knows maybe I'll continue afterwards 🙏🏻
After my own research. Im going to treat this as a mini lent. Im giving up Gatorade and doing a food and water fast on one of my days off. Im game though. Ill start doing this on top of lent every year. Thanks for sharing.
Starting tomorrow excited to be doing it. Not saying what Im doing doing it with heavenly father in secret etc 😇😇😇
So happy this popped up on my feed! God bless 😊
I am on it. I am going to practice St. Michael's Lent this year. What with all that is going on this year, I think we need it.
I'm doing it this year, having recently returned to the faith... this seems like a good exercise in obedience and humility... virtue building is all we can do to be closer to God
Prayers with all supporting Lent 2 lol
Love it, brother!
I first heard it from father Mike I think it’s great and I will participate in this Saint Michael the archangels Lent I will be praying the novena of Saint Michael the Archangel and other prayers not sure what to give up yet
I have planned to start this today.
Cradel Catholic here, I'm thinking I follow your lead and drop my phone while at home. Pray more and get off Facebook entirely.
I think I'll try to get back on the carnivore diet and giving up the relaxed keto diet I've been doing. No more keto deserts and the occasional carb loads.
Why? Look at your teeth. You are not a carnivore.
@@kevinkelly2162 Evolution is fake and gay
@@kevinkelly2162You must be joking.
I´m also giving up coffee (also drinking it 2-4 times a day isn´t very healthy), I wanted to do it so many times... Thanks for inspiration.
There are 4 major Fasts in the Orthodox Church. Great Lent, the Apostles Fast, Dormition, and Nativity. Nativity is 40 days. The Apostles Fast and Dormition are between 2 and 3 weeks typically.
St Michael please pray for me and usa ❤✝️❤️🔥😇
Yeah, you have to give it up slowly. I cut my intake by 25% each day until I hardly have any. Otherwise I get bad headaches.
I gave up coffee for lent one year. Be prepared for constant headaches. They are something to offer up.
One prayer I highly recommend everyone do during this time is an Examen. Praying it daily makes it easier to go into Confession because you obtain a clear understanding of your flaws and sins and how you can work to overcome them.
Doing the St Michael's Lent too Brother!
I downloaded the Auxilium Christianorum app and use the prayers they have for each day of the week along with my daily rosary. I gave up cheese.
That's interesting to hear I'll give it a try. I just try to limit my gaming, at least after attending mass.
I saw what you did. Never gonna give you up in the time stamps LOL. Got rick rolled.
Thanks for the info though :) Wish I learned about it earlier to plan it.
Don't be scrupulous, God is pleased even if you make an imperfect attempt. That's better than no attempt.
Great video! Not gonna let you get away with your Rick Roll in the Chapter Titles though. You thought you were smooth
🙏🙏🙏
You know… there are actually 4 Lenten fasting periods in the Orthodox Church ☦️
1. Triodion and Great Lent: 3 weeks then 30 Days before Pascha
2. st Phillips Fast : 40 days before Christmas
3. sts. Peter and Paul Fast: depending on when Pascha falls between 1 day to 3 weeks
4. Dormition Fast: Aug 1 to Aug 15 till after Divine Liturgy
Not to mention most Wednesdays and Fridays of the year except for the Fast Free weeks.
I think the Latin Trads still have some of these fasts , and also the Uniate Eastern Rite Catholics seem to retain most of their traditions from before Latinization.
I cant believe i was rick rolled by the chapters. Thats wild m8.
I'm giving up social media and all brain rot content for this 40 days. Mark my words.
Father (Frei) Gilson gathers 300 to 400,000 people a day on UA-cam during the Rosary at 4am in Brazil. This will be a great challenge. 😅
I'll be joining this! I did the Passover lent and rosary with them. Glad to know other fellow Brazilian in here.🤗
Good video
Don’t think I didn’t notice the casual Rick roll in the description
Sips with Serra is now just Serra until October
There's a lent in December St Martins lent also
Auxilium Christanum starts on August to September 29th which is 20 days
Good luck giving up coffee. The headaches are really bad. Try some decaf for the first few days/week
It's the third Lent. Second Lent is from St martin's day to Christmas. My country kept the shrove tuesday like feast but ditched the Lent ... of course
Interesting.
8 For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of GOD: 9 not of works, lest any man should boast."
2 Timothy 1:9 KJV (GOD) "Who has saved us, and called us with an Holy Calling, not according to our works, but according to HIS own purpose and grace, which was given us in CHRIST JESUS before the world began"
Titus 1:16 KJV "They profess that they know GOD; but in works they deny HIM, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work (fruit of the SPIRIT) reprobate."
did you rickroll us at the end?
@@roseg1333 that sounds great! I heard about it first on Pints with Aquinas recently
@@SipswithSerra oh that is awesome thank you 🙏🏼🥰✝️
thank you , i will cut to eat cookies , turd off mu phone at 9 pm and pray the pray of St. Michael
well brother, a good cold shower is far better than the best cup'o coffee, so add it up, ahahaha, God Bless
If it was 2090 years old tradition, then it would make sense.
Advent used to be like lent. See The Liturgical Year.
It is August 15th right now!
You must be in Australia because it’s still the 14th here in the United States
I liked all your ideas! Ill try to pray more and less UA-cam!
We've had one Lent, yes. But what about Second Lent?
