Love these old-school fishing videos, right back to the TA roots that drew me to your channel way back when. These videos explaining the basics are such a godsend to both new and experienced anglers alike. Thank you, a great little upload designed to educate and inspire!
As fishermen we get too caught up sometimes in what we like / what's worked for us before and often miss the obvious opportunities right beneath our noses. A timely and excellent reminder that the fish haven't got the same idea as us sometimes and a switching up of location, techniques and tackle can make all the difference. Great stuff! 👍 😁🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

When I was a kid, 60plus years ago, my grandmother used to take me mackerel fishing from the shore in Kent.
She equipped me with a rod + mackerel "feathers" and ordered me to catch the mackerel. .. whilst she scooped up the whitebait with a "bandy net" , that were being washed up in a panic on the beach!
Lovely fond memories ❤ ... except I later learned that the delicious whitebait I ate hadn't been gutted or bugger all! ... my grandmother deep fried them, golden crispy, guts n all, but didn't tell me!! 😨😨

I love stories like that especially when a woman is getting her son/grandson to catch dinner...it's like how things used to be and sadly we've almost lost that mentality.

Just wanted to let you know you probably wont see this but 6 years ago you inspired 9 year old me to fish and I havent stopped ever since I remember watching you catch mackerel off piers and doing interviews with people who owned tackleshops kinda thing and once you went out on a charter boat that was it I nagged every holiday to go on a charter boat until my dad finally let me when I was 12 little did he know we were gonna come back home with more mackerel after I watched your videos then he could have ever imagined ended p trading 100s of mackerel to fishermen for pot bait for crabs this channel genuinely is the reason I developed my fihing passion especially for mackerel thank you

Many thanks Graham for all your tips, I'm going on holiday this weekend for 2 weeks staying in Millendreath beach resort, I've bought a white namoura Kanji rod for lure fishing etc, can't wait to try it out on the rocks & estuary's 👍😀

I think I was the first one to publicise the old white Kanji...I only wanted one to be different as it was a different colour !!...Turns out it is a good spinning rod,I use mine in boat or beach,or even Pike fishing. Good luck with your holiday.Hope you have some decent weather.

Hope you're having good luck. You may be OK since you're staying there, but last I heard, the owners of Millendreath had banned fishing there, especially for us locals that live nearby. 😢😢 If you can't fish at Millendreath, try Seaton, but at either venue, you'll have to wait until the holidaymakers have left the beach.

I do think that the lack of the abundance of Mackeral we have seen in years gone by is mainly due to the Super deep sea trawlers which can catch 500 tons in a single pelagic trawl, they can target a shole of fish at any depth and so catch pretty much the whole shole in one go. Yes, they have limits to what they can catch but the numbers are ridiculous in my view and although apparently Scientific studies are undertaken to monitor the fish numbers, to ensure they are not overfished, how strictly are the quotas, given to all the countries that fish in our waters adhered to?
This is purely my opinion based on some very basic research, these super trawlers are hoovering the oceans dry of fish and leaving nothing for anyone else.
Thank you, Graeme, for a great video showing that there are still a few Mackeral around if you have the skill to find them. 👍👍🦈

Wow, brings back good old memories when I learned fishing from my uncle over 60 years ago. My job then was to gather up live bait sand crabs, muscles etc. from rocks and beach as you showed in the video. He always said, "Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime."
I heard that bluefin tuna are on a catch and release program in Cornwall and other areas.
Do you have plans to give it a go? That would make a epic video.
