I bought bernadine from Harts and its been the best clematis I've ever had. I have 7 plants total. 2 from regular grocery stores that I literally had to save. I'm hoping that I can find more from your company. I believe it matters how you grow and care for a plant that gives it success.

I have a couple of spaces of fence that I thought of growing Clematis. I ordered 5 plants which were selected mainly for colour. I received them about four weeks since & have to get them hardened off as per instructions. In & out of greenhouse continuous every day. They are growing really well & im wondering if Too Well . A couple of them now stand in excess of 3/4 feet. Would it be ,sir ,advisable to get them planted now or are you thinking that I should cut them down now ! Two of the plants that I’m told are good for containers areBourbon & Endelion! Your advice & help would be very welcome Best regards Ray Woodland

We are installing an extra wide and deep arbor at our winery/Meadery which will get a lot of traffic. What do you recommend for season-long bloom? I am guessing 2 to 4 different varieties of clematis. (I wouldn't want our guests to get pricked by rose thorns.) Thank you.
I recently bought Amethyst Beauty and it is pretty much full grown in the pot. Should I cut it back before I plant it? Or trim the old flowers? Is it ok to use lime when planting as my soil is quite acidic? Can too much burn the roots? Thank you.
Hello Basil, It is fine to cut Amethyst Beauty to as low as 6”/15cm before planting. If pruning and planting now it is likely to show little growth for 2-3 weeks then should flush up in August and flower in Late August/ Early September. Clematis prefer mildly acidic soil pH 5.5-6.5 so be careful not to add too much lime.
'New World' Varieties such as Amethyst Beauty, Shimmer, Reflections or alternatively the variety Charmaine tend to be less bushy and probably grow more similar to your requirement.
Clematis can grow in heat but do not tolerate too many successive days of +30 degrees. Shade is preferred in such climates, and they may go “heat dormant mid-summer.
