I love these videos. Ill probably never have a boat big enough for a D6 but cool to see the work. More 5.0/5.7 gxi engine work would be great. Especially the fuel delivery system.
Ted, Thanks for the video. My port helm/engine will not power on. I checked the blue/red return voltage and I measured 12 VDC, but bounced around a bit. However, the wiring harness was a bit warm. I checked the resistor at the alternator and found that a wire connected to the resister was a little frayed. I attempted to repair and then measured a resistance of approximately 31 ohms across the resister. The part number is T881679-3. Do you have the spec for this resistor? I replaced the resistor after the repair, but nothing changed. No power at the helm. The engine is a Volvo Penta D6-370I-B Serial # 2006006623. Do you have any recommendations?
I love your VP videos Ted! I am troubleshooting a D12D-A because the ECU and PFM Will not communicate with my tech's VODIA. The engine does start and run, But the gauges are wonky. This happened after an electrical meltdown. (Port engine lost ground and was using all of the bonding wires which melted also). All of the wirelooms were replaced, But we are now left with this remaining problem. Is there a chance I could consult with you for some advice?
Hi Ted, I have a KAD300 and it lost power, could't get higher then 2000 r/min. The Volvo specialist hanged all filters, also pre-filter for diesel, changed. Then changed the manual dieselpump and concluded that the turbo had to be broken. So we changed the turbo and the pipe that is connected to the turb0. All together about 8000 euros expensis and the problem stayed the same. Het even had me change the injectiobs (450 euros) Problem is still the same and I lost about 12000 euros. Now he talkes about the EDC. To change that will cost 3000 euros. Can you give me some advise?

I just purchased VP d3 160 a a engine with no controls. There is branch wire from harness in between engine and computer with bleck red and yellow wire if you can tell me what is that wire for. I would like to start engine if it's possible without HEUi I have key if I get just wire that got from computer to HEUi that have plug for key would it work? If you can give me part number for that cable I think one side is 8 pin conector and on the other side vodia conector, key plug and heui plug. Just trying to figure out this electronic engines. Hey, Ted love the video ! very informative. I have a question I am a Captain in Montauk and I have a 2004 41' Cranchi that has the d6 310 hp we have the EVC which is small without a display screen. We lost our bow cushion while cruising at 28 knots and brought it down to neutral and then reverse to grab the cushion (maybe too quickly). When we started again our starboard engine would not come out of reverse. We had a warning horn, a triangle light, and a battery light. We shut the engine down. We tried a restart and got the triangle and warning horn but no battery light this time we held the D button down and the waring horn stopped and the engine started in reverse. It's odd and we think it needs ECV reset. No mechanics are available for three to four weeks and we have lots of charters booked. Any thought where we should look for the issue. It seems to be a computer issue prior to this the boat was running fine.
@@tedsmarinerepair8956I would take it to a dealer but none are available. Also, there was grinding or thump of any kind when we went from forward gear, to neutral and then reverse. Something triggered the computer, I am thinking to disengage the actuator to the gear and manually put the engine in neutral and see if the computer will reset.
Just a quick follow-up, although we were plug into shore power and the batteries were reading a full charge we still had the problem, we then started the generator and switch to the generator for charging the batteries, and as soon as we did that the transmission went from reverse to neutral and all was good. So the problem was low voltage to the EVC.

The proper way is to use the breakout box, the other method is to use a #2 quilters pin and back-probe the connector - use the smallest pin you can get so you can slip it along the wire into the connector (from the back side) and not damage the insulation or sealing material. Then clip you meter to the pin and take your reading
Hi Ted thank you for another great video. I have an evc-c D6 435 that randomly throws a code that reads “check shift actuator”. My Volvo mechanic says that it is an issue between the ecu and pcu but it is going to be hard to figure out since it happens randomly when we are running and everything seems fine once we shut the engines down and start them back up. Do you have any tips or thoughts on the matter? I appreciate your help.
I've diagnosed this issue several times and most likely cause is cable adjustment to drive assy. if shift actuator is trying to pull further than mechanical linkage allows it will trip this code do to voltage stress on actuator not fully getting to relaxed state [loading on shift actuator]
@@tedsmarinerepair8956 thank you Very Mitch for your information! You said no calibration needed, my mechanic told I need to call Volvo the information, that’s why I call you thanks again

I suggest you contact an authorized Volvo Penta dealer to inspect your drive line to determine if there is any drive damage.
