FULL SONG: • I FEEL FINE - THE BEAT...

I learned this mostly from The Beatles' 1965 performance on The Ed Sullivan Show. Lennon, as the writer of the famous riff, opens and closes the song with it and also repeats it during the guitar solo. The riff is also doubled at some points by Harrison throughout the song - Lennon primarily plays chords during verses but will squeeze in a repetition of the riff whenever he isn't singing. It's not easy to play the riff while singing, so I'm guessing this is why Harrison takes over during these parts. There are a few notes in the riff that are not on the chord diagram, but there's plenty of good tabs out there for this famous song.
Back when I recorded this, I never thought I'd be doing a lesson series - it was just for fun. I sometimes keep my guitars tuned 1/2 step because it's easier to sing to, and this song happened to be such a case. As a result, this recording really in G-flat, so you'll have to tune down 1/2 step if you want to play along. :)

ABOUT THIS SERIES: I've gotten hundreds of requests for isolated tracks, but I thought many of them were lost because the recordings were already mixed down (or as we say, "bounced") years ago. However, I recently realized I still had the original video footage of me actually filming these recordings, and since I was wearing headphones, the audio that the camera picked up is essentially the isolated track! This is not the professional audio the mic was recording, but rather the actual sound in the room from my video camera at the time. For this reason, you may hear crickets and/or other background noises! Some of these will be full tracks, as I did them live in one take! Others I will split into clips of certain sections, as many required several takes. If you've been trying to figure out how to play some of these parts, I hope these videos help!

Something I find fascinating about early Beatles music is how many songs were recorded with at least one of their Gibson J-160Es, even some that don’t sound like an acoustic was used. It’s a very versatile guitar but sadly a bit pricey and the current specs (in general) don’t really match the vintage ones. I have the Epiphone version which gets you pretty close though.

If I were to re-do this, I'd probably put more focus into the up-strokes, which I've since noticed John often does prominently. His rhythm tends to vary and is a bit different than my video! ua-cam.com/video/SFLv_XRiknQ/v-deo.html
Treat this as a guide to learn the basic gist of the chord formations. I recorded this 6 years ago, and I've become a better guitarist (and listener) since. ;)

John used his Gibson J-160e on this song not the Rickenbacker 325

Not on the live versions! Very rarely, in fact. I think maybe once he used the Gibson live at the NME Poll Winners concert. Other than that, you'll always see him playing the Rickenbacker 325 in live performances (see the Ed Sullivan '65 show).
