- It's tough to beat highspeed fishing big king salmon in the great lakes. It's so hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that these pelagic FRESHWATER king salmon are so willing to chase after out spoons in that deep of water.

I have been a long time viewer of yours and a northern illinois guy myself, I couldnt wait until you eventually chased after kings. My favorite memory fishing was when I was 13 and me and my brother convinced my dad to take us out on a charter last minute up in michigan. Lil old me got smoked by a 28 lber and it took me 30 minutes to reel it in. Best fight of my life. Keep fishing never stop man

Awesome dude. Kings are running in my local River in Washington. I've caught some big ones here, 25-30lbs. And seen some 50 pound monsters. Such a hard fishing fish.

My favorite memory of Lake Michigan fishing is the time two friends and I caught our limit of Lake Trout in the early AM and played 9 holes of golf by noon the same day. An amazing day and an amazing memory for 3 fishing buddies. That's what Wisconsin is all about. 😎Enjoy your time in our state. Safe travels wherever your adventures lead you!

FINALLY he makes a Great Lakes salmon trolling vid! I LOVE IT! Hope you plan on getting out again sometime in July or August when things are really on fire! ....And do it in Lake Ontario!... No offense to the other great lakes but Ontario's got others beat hands down when it come to salmon fishing, it's just booming right now.

Hey Jon, you asked about the paper burning..... then it caught on fire lol. One of my favorite camping tricks is to show kids how to boil water in a paper cup in a camp fire. You can put the salmon right in the grill w/o the paper too.
You need to go salmon fishing in the fall when they are running in the rivers up in Michigan, it's an absolute blast!
I've done this a few times, usually on Lake Ontario. Not recently but I'd love to do it again soon. Talk about FUN. I've got those same cannon downriggers too. They're great. A little bit of a learning curve setting the sensitivity right, I use mine for walleye and we're trolling at slower speeds for those guys probably, generally 1.8 to 2.3mph. Walleye don't always hit hard so it's a little tricky getting the sensitivity set just right so that it won't pop off on it's own when you're getting down to depth, but still sensitive enough to release when you get a soft bite from a walleye. It took me a few trips out to get them where I really liked it...but I'm so thankful I have them now. It's a lot better than doing things the old way with lead-core line and having 200+ feet of line hanging out the back of the boat lol.
Looked like you guys got into the fish right away as soon as you got the downrigger ball down to depth lol. Always a great feeling when you get into the fish on your first set.

Love the vid, my dad, grandpa, me and a bunch of other guys go out there twice a year, launch from the same marina and everything, so fun to reel in them big salmon. Biggest one I’ve ever caught out there was 22lbs

Kings are my primary species that I target! Our season is opening this weekend in Northern California and I can't wait. They taste even better when they come from the ocean ;)
