From an Australian I think it’s a great result with Portugal getting a well deserved victory but also allowing a deserving Fiji side an opportunity to show their true worth in the quarter finals. The Portuguese are now my favourite team outside the Wallabies. They play such an exciting brand of Rugby with a high level of skill and grit.

Did you bother to read the complete comment I praised the ‘deserving Fiji side’ Fiji beat an inexperienced Australian side by 7 an aging Georgian side by 5 lost to a well disciplined Welsh side by 6 and a gutsy Portugal side by 1. If Portugal get an end of game goal against Georgia they would be in the Quarterfinals. So yes a losing result to Fiji does allow them another chance. Do I think PORTUGAL just got enough points to win and keep Australia out No way Australia did not deserve to go any further, after their humiliating losses to Fiji and particularly Wales. Read the words don’t add alternate meaning to it…….

Bravissimo à toute l’équipe portugaise et à son staff. C’est l’équipe "surprise" car dernière qualifiée, et qui a prouvé qu’elle avait toute sa place au plus haut niveau, dès sa première qualification !
Os Lobos ont produit du beau jeu (j’ai vu 2 matches, à chaque fois conquise par le caractère de cette équipe), ont fait preuve d’une solidarité et d’une persévérance à toute épreuve... cette victoire au bout de l’effort était mille fois méritée, on a hâte de les revoir!
Bravo aux guerriers Fidji, ils ont les moyens de battre leur futur adversaire en s’inspirant de ce match. A condition de retrouver un jeu collectif...

Os frutos de uma boa organização de qualquer equipa começa onde o individualismo egocêntrico acaba.
O maravilhoso de uma equipa é que todos são estrelas mesmo que percam e não existe o primeiro e segundo ou último numa equipa.
Não percebo muito a fundo o mundo do Rugby mas consigo entender que existe uma coesão que vai desde o treinador até ao apanha bolas e esse estado de espírito transforma todos em estrelas.
Foi um honra para Portugal vencer uma equipa como as Fiji com tantas provas dadas em qualidade e com uma coesão também muito forte pois as Fiji são uma equipa de sonho e muito valente.
O jogo poderia ter sido vencido pelas Fiji e também seria merecida a sua vitória.
O importante foi a festa do jogo em si, as escolhas tácticas, a beleza do desporto com todos os seus movimentos complexos e o seu desportivismo salutar que tanto caracterizam este popular desporto e a emoção de um estádio cheio de pessoas não violentas e disfrutar de uma bela partida.
Como diziam os índios americanos: o corajoso tem de sentir mêdo senão nunca saberá o que significa a coragem, e foi isso que vimos, duas equipas destemidas e honestas a jogar disputando a atenção de um estádio cheio de pessoas que assistiram a este desenrolar de emoções tão particulares da incerteza do resultado final quase sempre presente num encontro de Rugby.
Dei por mim a apoiar as duas equipas em simultâneo de cada vêz que uma estava a perder.
Por isso mesmo, também eu fiquei a ganhar.
Só se perde verdadeiramente quando não se sabe ganhar honestamente.
E esta equipa das Fiji não perdeu, pelo contrário, também ganhou junto com Portugal.

After this RWC, we need relegation / promotion in the 6N and Rugby Championship.
There needs to be a seperate annual league for all internatiol teams to play each other twice a year. Leave the other championships how they are.
Big teams traveling to lower tier countries will foster more growth and experience.

A promotion-relegation process would make things fairer to teams like Georgia and Portugal and would force Italy to truly work hard to make sure they stay in. There are only positive outcomes doing it
We need a club/country structure such as they have for the Pacific Islanders. Smaller European countries should be in the European league structure as countries, not individual teams.
I agree that there is a need to make the 6 Nations a "Northern Championship". This RWC has shown teams, like Portugal & Georgia have developed. Let's face it. The 6 Nations have become a club and this has affected the skill quality of some teams. The competition needs a promotion/relegation inventive.

Going by what happened this WC. Get Portugal into the 6 nations, far more exciting to watch than Italy, will give a few teams a run for their money. Italy have been a disgrace this WC. There needs to be a 6 nations B, where winner gets promoted.

World Rugby needs to set up a new tournament. a Intercontinental cup, for Tire 2 nations maybe even 5th or 6th World rankand down.
Also ive beed saying for ages now that the 6 Nations need the treat of promotion and relegation to keep teams improving. The 6 Nations wooden spoon should have a play-off game or series of 3 games, tue winner has the 6 nations and the loser has the European rugby championship.

Hey how is englands rugby boring, can u elaborate? Genuine question, I just recently learned that rugby is not just a bunch of dudes rolling in the mud, so I’m trying the understand the intricacies of the game.
@@paulomsantossilva it may be controversial to say it, but imo the England coaches have consistently stifled creative players such as Danny Cipriani and now Marcus Smith. So much talent wasted, and if not careful going to waste. It’s a game where the coaches run things their way and their way only, by statistics. Anyone dare challenge their ideas and they simply don’t fit, hence the game hasn’t evolved in many years.
It was refreshing to see teams like Portugal, being daring, running lines and support play was at times beautiful. After this World Cup the game will have to change, make the game more exciting and spontaneous, Inspire kids to play because at the moment the game is becoming stagnant and the numbers playing the game have fallen off a cliff. World Rugby will reward Portugal by ignoring them and investing absolutely nothing in to their system.
That question about "portuguese portuguese" and double nationality players was quite loaded and malicious. If all players comply with requirements to be portuguese under Portugal's law, they are all equally portuguese and, thus, able to be drafted for a national team. I'm quite sure most of those portuguese descendants in France have quite some pride in identifying as portuguese.
