The only bad thing about these videos is that every time I watch while eating while wearing headphones, I cannot actively listen because all I hear is my chewing and headphones moving around. So I must stop chewing. But I always stop chewing at the wrong time.
Hi Dude, I must have watched 25 of your vids now, and I must say I have learnt a lot. It has put me in touch with a weakness in my own mixing and mastering, which is I always want things to be too radical. At the end of this video we hear a track that is very nicely balanced - its sounds professional - you can hear everything, and there are no nasties anywhere. In fact, it is a pleasure to the ears. But I just know I would not have got there because I always want the groove to predominate, everything else takes a back seat. I wind up with "dance mixes" even when I don't want them. You, by contrast, mixed a nice, grooving low end and then were happy to let it find its right place in the overall mix. I am a good deal older than you, but less mature in my approach.
wow I just asked about a tutorial for low end on another video of yours and here it has been since a year. You are freaking awesome dude 👍👍 keep it up, subbed 😁
Once again, you nailed it. Great tutorial, glad I subscribed, I really love the way you approach things, not like, this is the way to do it, but rather, this is how I start, from there on, it’s a gradual slope, and I end up learning a lot by myself, trials and errors, and my mixes sound way better by doing this. Thanks
You explained your EQ choices wonderfully however would’ve also preferred a similar level of detail on why you set the bands up on Pro MB the way you did.
Im still in the process of tuning my room :/ lol its crucial for me to have accurate bass in my room cause of the genre I am starting to produce. 250 sq ft of rockwool in corners and reflections on all walls isnt enough. Im building carbon activated diagfragmatic absorbers and qrd 11 diffusors for the rear wall. That and a few 703 panels for the cloud, should be good to go! then I test the room to note the balanced bass response and THEN I know my bass and kick is right.
Good videos, man! By the way, I have a question for you about digital/analog sound. I know a lot of people prefer analog equipment because it adds analog warmth, extra harmonics etc. but personally I believe I could fool anyone on a blind test when it comes to recognizing analog vs digital sound. What I mean is I believe I can recreate or simulate analog sounds with digital equipment, because with the amount of plugins and everything we have today, we can practically change any sound into anything with endless possibilities. So my question is, do you believe there are any specific sounds you can only get with analog gear as opposed to digital? Are there any sounds or harmonics that can't possibly be recreated with digital plugins? I just can't imagine what analog gear could possibly do that is so magical that it can't be replicated with digital equipment. You could add saturation, tape simulation, vinylizer, harmonic exciter, eq for warmth, and so much more to make modern music sound old school or analog. So do you agree, or am I being ignorant? Sorry for the long question, but I'm very interested in your opinion on this, thanks! :)
you're right. and it really comes down to preference. the human ear can't really perceive all the subtle differences though a lot of people would like to think otherwise. ...as far as recreating or simulating analog sounds with digital equipment you should watch andew zeleno's channel he did a test with about 60 people to see if they could tell the difference. really interesting . ua-cam.com/video/YVwAX6FIJ74/v-deo.html
heyy man ..... I want to say thank you. you are one of the little ones who say their opinion and explain really technical things ... i really like your channel ... and hope you do more tutorials s ..... it is informative and funny every time the same ....... I know is foolish with stupid people but killer broo ..... shit on all idiots who only wank stupid stuff ..... hope to see you .... thx for now and best wishes
You get better results for this style if you use the Lin Multiband from waves .Start with presets elektromastering .that give you a perfect blend of low bands .The Fab multi is more analytic..
When you mix kick and bass, do you often have to deal with phase problems and frequency clashing, or is that something the producers more often deal with on their own? Also, what happened to your fingernail?
I have been bitten by a dog while playing a game with him... Nothing bad, it's restoring... It's good to highlight the fact that of course the production has to be good, the kick and bass have to fit each other... If not, there are still some workarounds, flipping the polarity or nudging with some stuff could work. What sometimes also works is cutting off a part of the tail of the kick...
Hello mate I have a question I had to make a change on a mastered track..If I use fruity loops to fix to a part that was loud at the beginning ..and I will render it at fpl daw as wave 16 bit ....the new rendered file will it sound as good as the original ? Please let me know thanks so much!!!
i didn't watch the whole video yet. i'm just at the point where we compare his and your mix, and i gotta say even though your mix sounds more professional, wide and clear, his mix has a certain kind of underground vibe. i admit that it makes the mix sound a bit 2dimensional but it just has so much flavour. and i think it has something to do with the density of the highend in his mix. that's pretty cool.
Beautiful especially the end result of how the bass and kick sit better with that simple Compression done in the MB.
Hey Zen nice to see you here!
Well Played, Well Played Sir!
Zen World he wassup browhh

I’ll try to make the listening moments a bit longer in the next video... but I’m always sooo full of energy that I don’t have the patience 😂
Don't change anything, you're good. I just need to not wear headphones. Or not eat 👍
You're just adding some 'extra snare' to the song. I do the same sometimes, and find myself chewing at the beat of the song,,lol
Use your arrow keys to jump back 5 seconds?
Waves got a plugin that allows you to phase inverse the noise your jaw generates using an IR response from an Abbey Road engineers mouth.
I will now be adding "air" to my acoustic bass tracks. Thank you for your dedication to innovation.
Multiband bass compression changed my life :) I never understood how to add weight properly to a mix until then.

Thank you for the support and video
Stem’s 1176 plug brought that kick to life, jeez.
There reference mix was so scooped and bler that high end, your mixes are always so balanced and punchy.
wow I just asked about a tutorial for low end on another video of yours and here it has been since a year. You are freaking awesome dude 👍👍 keep it up, subbed 😁
That kick got nice and snappy.
Fantastic and very helpful!
Sounds like sweet harmony from the beloved

cool stuff here,mb gives a nice character to the dynamics of the low end.
nice video... great tip on the high end air for bass...
this was the best video I have seen out of all the videos I have seen you make. :)
You explained your EQ choices wonderfully however would’ve also preferred a similar level of detail on why you set the bands up on Pro MB the way you did.
me too. i was especially surprised by the decision to turn attack and release all the way down on the sub. wouldn't that distort the fuck out of it?
More of this. Great walk through.
Awesome video i learn a lot every time i watch!!
Great skills, you have my respect! Also thanks for putting the effort for such great content!
love ur channel dude ! very well done explanations n very kind of you to share it so thnx a lot !
Some times i think i know what i am doing, then i watch this and realise i have no idea. Awesome mix! Thank for the video
this video is HEAT
Is a multiband specifically a big deal for gluing low end? Would a regular bus comp not do the same?

Awesome as always.. Greeting from Australia..
WOW your mix blew his clean out the water!
Maat klinkt geweldig! Ben geabboneerd : )
Can someone explain me the last step of the chain, how is the setup on the low bands?
Loving all your videos tho!
Good stuff, you made it sound so much better.
I hope to see more of those "A vs B" videos, with your process behind it!
Thank you man, you explained it crystal clear, learned!

those eqs sound good
Good stuff, White Sea!
Nice track man, n great production

And what do you think about sidechaining?
You get better results for this style if you use the Lin Multiband from waves .Start with presets elektromastering .that give you a perfect blend of low bands .The Fab multi is more analytic..
Gotta love Reaper
Yah man..dig & thanks again!
I sooooo wish I could mix one of my songs with you!!!
Moral of the video. Multiband compression.
Hi, do you need to gain stage again after boosting the eq? I am lacking in low end.
This guy is such a talented engineer!
Nice! Mooi verschil!
And no frequencies fighting between the kick and bass ?
What kind of eq’s /analog hardware do you use?
When you mix kick and bass, do you often have to deal with phase problems and frequency clashing, or is that something the producers more often deal with on their own? Also, what happened to your fingernail?

What was your Stam settings?
Are you also Dutch?

3:33 Ouch, that must have hurt! Seriously though, I wish I had your ears... but then we'd both look funny.
Don't you have phase issues (mostly for mono compatibility) when using a HPF on the sides?
bluesovietmoose you can use a linear phase eq
how would u do this without expensive hardware?
when did you switch from protools and why? also, what are your opinion on cubase? (for mixing/mastering)
Hi Wytse, was the 1176 before or after the EQ on the kick? 4:50
Cheers, Moos
When are you going to post a video on how NOT to use a hammer? how many nails have you lost?
You know, I would almost always sidechain the kick, but you haven't here... interesting...
GREAT job on this song, but this goes completely against the EQ mantra of "cut before you boost".
bro how'd you get a studio set-up so young? in terms of cost like?
Sad, I would've loved to see you use Sandstorm by Darude
i didn't watch the whole video yet. i'm just at the point where we compare his and your mix, and i gotta say even though your mix sounds more professional, wide and clear, his mix has a certain kind of underground vibe. i admit that it makes the mix sound a bit 2dimensional but it just has so much flavour. and i think it has something to do with the density of the highend in his mix. that's pretty cool.
For a second I thought you were going to say Sandstorm by Darude...
Hoe krijg je die bassisten zo afgericht dat ze zo nep klinken?
Why to subscribe again ?
Do you have a tutorial on mid side processing?
in this video all he did to the mids n sides was getting rid of all sides in the bass. the reason for that is simple: subwoofers only have one speaker
WOW
Too much movement in the mid range, vocals are like a whisper. Maybe it is the youtube compression.
Da Rude is in Hospital ?
Not strange to promote your bands/work
starsky en dutch
Lame. No explanation as to why he made those moves on the eq. No explanation on why he chose the attack on release settings on the multiband.
It sounds like the vocals are getting drowned out tho
In music like this, vocals are background elements.
I could work on that kind of muzak for about 30 seconds.
7:30 so . reaper your 2nd Daw?
Dude... chill out a little bit. You are VERY stressed. It kinda makes it difficult to see your videos, that are very interesting. Thanks for the info.
