Nice video, thanks! I have a 2003 A2, which has a space saver tyre. This means it is a little different. The plastic plate which clamps down the battery is replaced with a large metal bracket which goes over the top of the battery - It also is the mounting for the space-saver clamp too, which is why it is metal. The good news is that this makes the removal of the foam covering those 13mm screws much easier.

Thank you! I have just replaced the battery on my A2 using your instructions. You made replacing that foam bit look a lot easier than I found it. My version involved much more sweat and swearing. I even considered lubricating the thing with washing up liquid, but it went in in the end.

On 7zap two batteries are stated for A2: 80AH/380A and 72AH/380A. But there is no info if it is for petrol or diesel. Check with your parts store...

Thanks for this, very helpful but
The 13mm spanner won’t fit the bolts you need a socket
The 13mm bolts aren’t long enough when you try to replace them so you need a couple of longer ones

They DO go back in but as usual it's a bit of a chew. Make sure the battery is as far forwards as possible, and push the battery retainer down as you tighten it with a socket.
