Hey I just want to thank you for speaking so positively about the standard/basic edition. Too often especially in the board game youtube space you get the feeling/ the vibe that the standee version, the standard version etc... is "for ye peasants, you poor folk" and in order to get the "REAL" experience you have to buy the mini version, all in, super pledge etc...
Of course! I try to share what I think is most practical
This game seems to be of exceptional quality, so both the standees and the miniatures look amazing. Personally, I went for the minis, but I realy enjoy painting them, so it is a whole different kind of activity for me. To be honest, though, if I was not into painting them, I would 100% go for the standees. They are great!
Regarding the Queen design, I believe the core box alien race is inspired by the Zerg faction from Starcraft (and the Xyrian addon race seem to be like the Protoss, with the Player characters to be kinda like the Terran). So the Queen being a humanoid 'waifu' fits thematically based on the Queen of Blades (Kerrigan), and the alternate queen being more like a regular Zerg Queen.
My wife made that same comment. I still don't really care for it's design

I agree about the playmat. I'm normally a sucker for neoprene, but I just don't see the value here. I look forward to your "late pledge" coverage on this one (if you're still doing those).
Of course you should, but don't go crazy. The $100 option with a few ad ons looks fantastic. Also, that $65 option is very tempting, as I have enough mini's to paint already.
I really hate the monsters in Retaliation, especially the Queen. I think the character and monster art and models got worse with every installation of the franchise. The "bats" in Lockdown were already borderline acceptable, but the Vampires, these weird humanoid aliens and then this titty-Queen, ugh!!! Feels like it was designed by someone in puberty
Thank you SO much for this. I'm completely new to this BG world and got introduced to it by the Witcher Old World, and man what a mess this all is... Sooo many games that look awesome it's so hard to chose from, especially when they're existing IPs. Nemesis really interests me but I couldn't understand the exact differences and what should I get, your video helped tremendously! I think I'm gonna get Deluxe Retaliation. The thing is, I would also like to get Nemesis with some exclusive stuff since it's the occasion, but it's only available in english on the opposite of Retaliation, which is a bummer :(

I love Nemesis as a game system and have enjoyed painting it all. I think that the prices are very reasonable, although if I was new to the game, I would pick up either the original or Lockdown at retail rather than in the campaign. The medic character does sell for ridiculous amounts so I would advise getting it.
Thanks for the honest look at things, totally agree with your description regarding art books, the new queen, and lots of other good points in this. I will probably go for Nemesis OG and maybe Lockdown, for exactly the reasons you stated as to why people prefer those. I dont want a Zombicide
Amazing review tyvm as always. Question if you are new player, depending on personal money, do you agree this is a correct order to buy things if you want variety:
1) Original pack (Nemesis + Voidseeders + Aftermath) : 125$
2) Retaliation: 109$
3) Medic: 10$
4) Untold Stories 1,2,4: 27$

5) Extras: acrylic pack, terrains, etc
6) Lockdown + Untold Stories
7) Carnomorh
8) Kings, etc

That looks solid and stopping at 4 is probably the best economic way to get the max amount of good content. I still question if someone needs two Nemesis titles, but don't fault anyone if they want a different experience as retaliation and Nemesis OG have different feels.
I'd switch literally one-timer untold stories for acrylic pack, cause it's not about beauty, but for the reliability and resistance to damage mostly
It should also be said that Awaken Realms pack their game really well (shipping wise).
I hear you on the mini's, however my game group prefers full 3d mini's over a standee which is 2d. Their argument is that Mini's are better because with a standee you always have two people at the table seeing the standee and what it is, and the other two seeing a line which breaks immersion. To me it doesn't matter, but to them its a big deal. Got to do with what my game group wants lol. That being said Nemesis never really interested me, so I am passing on it. Not to mention If I really wanted it, I have a local gaming store selling the core box of main nemesis with mini's for 60$.
Everyone new to Nemesis should get the OG Nemesis with Medic and Aftermath

@@RiffLair For how cheap they are now, I highly recommend them with price and replayability compared to other expansions. Get them cheap in the gamesfound page. The characters, the trait cards and the Medic alone have given me the oh shit moments
About the cross-compatibility of Retaliation and the previous games, AR did mention that we'll be able to use the characters from all the previous games in Retaliation. It's explained in the second-last picture at the Characters section of the project story. I'm not too sure if they'll play exactly the same but I'm glad AR gave us the options.
On the campaign it says you will be able to use SOME of the previous characters, not all.

I agree the Carnomorphs remind me of the Necromorphs from Dead Space
Admittedly I'd like to standee versions of all three titles. I've already got a significant number of games which take up a large amount of space as a result of the miniatures.
Part of me doesn't mind having mini's and a part of me thinks maybe I'll get around to painting them but I know I won't as I'd rather be playing.
Given space considerations I'll be changing my trilogy pledge to the standee versions. I'd love the trilogy but I can't justify the cost or the real estate space.
As a suggestion can't you do an later update vid that groups all the games you deep dived into one vid, just to go over all the unlocks, and add-ons, later in those campaigns. The reason you get more people watching when it first comes out is because their unsure on if their backing or not, were near the near of the campaign people that choice not to back don't care anymore, and people that did already know everything about the campaign. Just a thought to group all the deep dives together in an update vid.

I use the Philips Hue system in my office. Several black Fridays ago they had a sale on the hue lights and I bought a bunch of the bars and strips. The strips are on my large shelf and the bars are behind my kalax shelf behind the game table. I love how they connect to my Google home so I just say "hey Google im recording" and they change the whole room to a filming set.
@@GameBrigade I have govee brand that has been working excellent and also connects to Google as well. The lighting makes all the difference. About to set up my first actual game table that a friend DIY'd for my birthday.
Got Nemesis recently and I really enjoy it. Waiting on carnomorph and void seeder. I am thinking of backing the standee version cause it looks different enough and the price is reasonnable.
Also to add on the sundrop, to be honest, even if you know nothing about painting (like me) you can apply a wash for a similar effect for perhaps $10-15 instead of $70+. It is not that long to do
Absolutely. I am a painter and always tell people to do their own sundrop as it doesn't take much skill and is a fraction of the cost.

I have played Nemesis 2 times and adored my experience. So I am actually considering of not only pledging for retaliation to be part of the original crowdfunding journey (I had missed the window for lockdown by one day) but also get the first game with the included expansions + medic. The biggest fear I have is not necessary the price I will have to pay but actually the space at home that all these boxes will take. That really is worrying. I presume you wouldn’t have any comforting thoughts for me on this front? 😅 I had hoped that I can skip with retaliation the acrylic and terrain pack but you made it sound like both are worth it so more space needed ahhhh
acrylic wont need extra space, it can definitely go with the original box, just throw the acrylic pack box

Thanks for the great video. Let’s say a person has all the minis from Nemesis core and Lockdown. If that person wasn’t too picky, do you think those previous minis could be used in the standee version of Retaliation? I get that they are not exactly the same, but is “close enough” reasonable for previous content that is just collecting dust?
Don't know from the model counts, likely not enough even with 2 sets/ races combined, you'd have to check the numbers yourself, but also would not work scale-wise. The board would be overflowing from minute 1 since the first two games minis are so enormous. You need to fit up to 8 adults on a single corridor tile, that just does not work out well.
Your biggest hurdle is that retaliations main theme in the aliens is the hired mechanic. Which spawns sometimes up to twelve aliens around a survivor. There just isn’t enough models in the other two for something like that. With that said, in my games, the most at a sink time was around 12 total aliens on the map. I’d check the components count and see what it comes to on the other games.

I haven't played invader, but I do agree that there are similar concepts to how you deal with zombie hordes and the aliens in this.

The solo wasn't available for retaliation so I can't say on that, but I feel like it depends on your overall style. If you want more of a survival horror go nemesis, if you want survival action go retaliation

Yeah that's what I'd do, but they came out with a lot of tokens now which I can see not needing because it's 3x now

If i really like the semi coop stuff and want to compliment retaliation - is lockdown more semi coop than the OG and does that conplement retaliation more? Also is at least retaliation and lockdown different enough or are those even too similar?
Both Nemesis and lockdown have similar semi co-op feels. The difference is within the mechanic walk down and produces with the light system. I personally think Nemesis OG is a fine system and the aliens work well with it. While lockdowns licensing only work specifically with one alien

Cosmetic addon. Normally they replace the board, but this uses the tiles. It's an easy skip.
