Social Learning Theory: Bandura’s Bobo Beatdown Experiments
Вставка
- Опубліковано 22 тра 2024
- What do you think? Can we learn only through direct experience, or also from studying others? To prove that children can learn by mere observation, american-canadian psychologist Albert Bandura came up with the Bobo Doll Experiments - a set of controversial studies, which involved preschool children, adult models and a stand-up punch doll. What did he find out?

CLASSROOM EXERCISE
Experiment! Choose two or more activities that your class will be doing together (best would be simple physical actions like summersaults or yoga poses). For each activity select a different style of demonstration (one demonstrate yourself, one let a student demonstrate, and one will only be described to the students). Make sure everyone executes each pose or activity once. Which learning style do your students prefer? Could they do it better? Encourage each of your students to demonstrate their own activity or pose and explain it in a way they think their classmates will get it. Vary the level of detail of explanation for more interesting results!

Remember when that mom was feeding her kid and he wouldn’t eat. so she tried to feed a teddy bear and the teddy wouldn’t eat so she punched the teddy bear. She tried to feed him again and then the baby ate the food.
:)
Should had punch the baby
That’s sick and abusive
@@jamesschultz8222 the baby needs to eat
@@shawnshawn8685 abusive to the teddy bear
interesting study. although i would think that people would naturally punch the bobo doll just for fun because it keeps coming back up
you can make a weeble wobble but it won't fall down
@Train of Taught no. It's the opposite. Bullies fear the strong, and those who feel indifferent to bullying. The Bully must lose interest in you. If u behave weak, the Bully will be determined to bully you more. At the same time, don't challenge the bully to a fight if u can't beat him.
Just look in the eyes of the bully, as if they are some vermin.
@Train of Taught No it's not the same because the bobo doll doesn't hit you back. Go punch a punching bag. Fun and easy, right? You can do this all day, easy, no worries, no second thoughts. Now go punch a fighter. The weak kids are punching bags and the strong kids are fighters. Even if you beat the fighter, you're going to walk (limp) away with two black eyes and think very hard and carefully before you go punch that fighter again. You might even get beat by the fighter and then take out your frustration on the punching bag aka the weak kid. So please, be a fighter not a punching bag. Even if you lose, you must stand up for yourself. Don't be a Bobo doll.
Haha
A good confounding factor. I am sure they would like ot incorporate that in replicating the experiment if it were to be performed today.
Learned about this in my adolescent psychology class, it’s nice to be reminded of useful theories and studies like these. Bandura a goat 🐐
As a parent, I try very hard to watch my own behaviour and words that I use especially when I am in front of the kids. Sometimes fatigue and stress will get the better of me. Every time I see these clips about how much children's behaviour is influenced by their surrounding, I am reminded that I need to do better.
You my friend are a very considerate parent and honestly might be one of the best parents ever
Same Lol
tru
It's human to make mistakes sometimes and it can actually be pretty good for children to see a parent model healthy ways to own up to mistakes and apologize.
Atleast someone agrees
I remember we once gave our dog a command we had never taught her and she did it immediately.
She had picked it up from observing her friend-dogs following the command during walks, without being taught it directly herself.
Brilliant
Interesting. Another good reason why we must read stories to children. They observe images and learn!
Your mission presented at the end is inspiring, thank you guys.

Thank you! These videos are so incredibly helpful for me.
The other day, I saw two women at a supermarket, accompanied by a young boy.
The little boy was frustrated and hitting one of the women. She threatened spanking him if he didn't behave.
I wonder WHERE the little boy learned that he could express his frustration by hitting others when they didn't behave the way he wanted. Truly a mystery for the ages, I think.
Thanks, I was waiting this video!
I find the use of terminology a bit unclear. The question at the beginning and the supporting visuals imply that the question is if we can learn a skill through observation. But the experiments seemed like they were less about learning how to punch, but rather if they would copy the adult's behavior. The kids didn't "learn" how to punch the doll, they learned/adopted the behavior.
Noted. Thanks
best video so far on this topic
1.Which book would you suggest for further reading.
2.Is there any books that are a "must read" when it comes to psychology
To the *incredible person* seeing this, I wish you all the best in life❤ don't over blame yourself, accept things and go forward. Don't let others define what “success” is for you. Get up, learn the skills needed and get after it, all the keys to a happy life is in your hands. Keep pushing.

My son is five and his been watching MMA and boxing since he was born. I'm a big fan and now he thinks his a warrior and he loves to wrestle
I can't believe I've never heard of this before.
I mostly believe this to be true. I could list things of examples of that happening in my family.
@2:34 “ seeing other being rewarded does not necessarily motivate us to copy they behavior.” I wonder if a reward has an significant monetary value will that influence the behavior to be copied?
thank you!
The fact that kids also learn by observing others was considered a profound revelation for the psychology world? My god… these are the experts, the professionals, and the highest paid amongst us?
Funny how some/most people before/after this experiment didn't understand these simple principles.
I mostly learned what not to do. By watching my caregivers and family I recognized I didn't want to imitate them. They all seem to follow a particular pattern, even though choosing different careers, that still made them miserable and not very good parents.
It is also known as *Will Smith slaps Chris Rock Social Experiment.*
Good one bro😅😅
Fun & Entertainment they should both get fined for ‘ ham acting ‘ 😂
I definitely think we copy our parents as kids. I am 32 and have never seen disagreements between my parents become demeaning or disrespectful. So I have always thought that, that is a person should argue. So I have soldem do it if I do I feel horrible and always apologise.
I would like to share the videos from this channel with my mom. However, she can’t listen and understand English, and so I would like to make an Indonesian subtitle for her. How do I submit subtitle to these videos?

This is why groomers need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Well so far teaching isn't an illegal profession yet so "fullest extent" doesn't go very far. The word you wanted I'm guessing is persecuted.
@@harlequingnoll5 prosecuted for their crimes
@@tos100returns the whole point of teaching is "grooming", molding kids into productive members of society. That's not illegal yet. If you have a problem with that I suggest home schooling (although you still need to teach enough to pass a GED)
@@harlequingnoll5 No one is missing what I am saying. I'd the law does not fix the problem, then the parents will. Teachers.....be afraid and keep your noses clean.
@@harlequingnoll5 And by the way, we ALL WILL PAY SPECIAL ATTENTION TO INDIVIDUALS LIKE YOURSELF AND OTHERS that say the things you say. Adults that care about kids are SICK AND TIRED of adults that want to "groom" (as you put in quotes) and abuse kids.
Thank you
Our pleasure:)
I also disagree, that this is a study on aggression. Bobo Doll is after all a toy, like a ball, you kick that too, regardless if you aggressive or not. You can not really tell, whether the children hitting the Bobo Doll are doing it out of hidden rage or joy. Children learn and adapt. In conclusion this episode does not make me hold Albert Bandura in awe. After all, he was bored, when attend psychology class, maybe he could use a Bobo Doll to pass time.
The first part of your argument was reasonable. The second half, however, was just plain Ad Hominem
who said this was a study on aggression?

Awesome! Thank you!
Didn't know Bandura was a lefty 01:52.
All these studies when the Bible had literally said, children live what they learnt 😅
1.Kids are more likely to copy same gender adults
2. Males are naturally more aggressive than females
3. Females are naturally more prone to be intimidated by punishments ( given to others)
Second observation is not precise. I would say (based on this video alone) that boys are more likely to EXPRESS their agressivity.
I think we all copy the people we admire
Hollywood does not condone violence. 🕊
🧢
its true. When i was a kid I had this doll pretended it was a baby would beat it up. Turns out that happened to me when I was a baby, not from my parents btw somobdy else
Hypothesis should include another scenario where the kid denies to go that room to begin with 🤔 Let alone observing. 😮
I see a fallacy of describing one adaptive behavior and stating that the behavior is the only method to achieve the goals of the said adaptive behavior. In other words, I argue for multiple learning matrices.
I don't think anyone was arguing that learning through observation was the only way to learn, the discussion was about learning through observation being possible.
@@bramvanduijn8086 Perhaps another viewing.
I love the shit they used to get away with in "science experiments"...
Yes
Buttttttt.....is the bobo doll alone in the room where the subjects could vent their frustrations into?

Conclusion: girls are built different
Our government is using this knowledge to force compliance. In Canada, if you do what they want you’re ok, if you Don’t do what they want; no more banking, no mtg payments or insurance transacted so you and your kids are on the streets.
Punishment does more to provoke behaviour then reward. Alas, this is effective
Many people's idea of sex first came from porn. A lot of things make sense now given social learning theory.
This is why the story of Jesus is so effective. He forgave those who bullied him. Its a hard thing to copy though.
So, those children who went through those was taken advantage of, right? Wer they ever able to unlearn what they learned. Marred forever? This is also abuse. With the kind of shows today, Television and cartoons is such a nuisance to their mental emotional and brain development.
(my opinion).
Children are your responsibility, parents. Spent purposive time with them. Do not verbally abuse them, but heal them with your words and touch.
Please add the traduction of arabic
my conclusion: internet, film, and mass media is the destroyer of humanity
nope. not quite I think.
Can I give the online classes for telling lies.🤔
My brothers and I had one of those punch dolls in the mid 60's....we punched the crap out of that poor doll because it was fun, until we punched it so hard it hit and broke the ceiling light fixture made of glass that put a rip in our punch doll. RIP Punch Doll....mom had no punches in the game, dad was no where to be seen.
Unnecessary to watch or learn about Bandura - its sufficient to watch nature where adult animals teach their offspring by showing how to do something right. And the children then will repeat it and understand - if i do it i will live well, have food and be safe. Often the solution is about going out into the world and start observing without going too much into school and book teachings.
And just as some critics - saying "The Man do it" or the "Female Actor do it" is discriminating and distorting peoples perception - I had to ask myself "WTF are they saying - that man are aggressive and women just act to be aggressive?" Who the actual fuck made this audio track. Its man and woman. Done.
Nope! I play violent shooters since 1999 first was Unreal Tournament my whole life! I visit Lan partys! 300 psycos caged in a small room over 3 days without light and crappy food and no sleep! All playing this violent onlineshooters! Never one beatup happens! This is why i think this study nonesense!
Boo Boo
And everyone said violent game film and animation still safe for children. Yes, those who said that never learn this theory.

as a psychologist,i say : this clip is NOT true !!! it's apalling and i'm outraged of this clip. what bandura demonstrated is that the MOST important thing is the punishment or reward that the agressive adult receives. the children will be more agressive if the model was rewarded, and less agressive if the model was punished. everything else is a lie
