- This clip contains basic Crow language (Apsaalooke) vocabulary complimented by the Plains Sign Language. It was originally created in 2004 and modified in 2006 by Lanny Real Bird and Roy Stewart (editor). The narrator is Fatima Bad Horse. The purpose of this video is to teach basic words, phrases, and questions in Apsaalooke. The original production contains over 400 phrases in Crow and has been adapted in Hidatsa, Dakota, Mandan, Lakota, Nakona, Chippewa, and Cree. This design was to have a Crow word said and 2-3 seconds of silence to be used to imitate the speaker and perform the sign. The captions show the English meaning of each entry. That way a learner can say, understand, and learn vocabulary of the Apsaalooke. Copies are available at the LBHC Bookstore. It also accompanied by flashcards and an index. This video has been used extensively in the Plains Sign Language class, Conversational Crow, and in Crow language classes in the Wyola and Crow Agency Schools.
My Nana is also Crow tribe, and I recognise a lot of these gestures from her. Even if her voice doesn't know the spoken language, her being knows the common languge of the plains ♡
I've been drawn to learn Crow language as I've recently learned my Spirit guide was part of the Crow Tribe in Rising Sun 😇🙏 he has a beautiful energy, and was a Powerful and Wise Medicine Man

Could you communicate effectively with other plains nations using this sign language? Or just specifically Crow people?
It is an international language among the civilizations of the Plains of the Americas. There are variations just like dialects. When we talk we gesture and pisl is in our DNA.
