That's Bruce Lee's suit from Game of Death, and that's specifically what they're referencing since he's got nunchucks.

there is also a dark crystal reference, the crow that steals your children's happiness is a reference to the skeksis (Chamberlin specifically), and the crystal that absorbs the happiness is a reference to the crystal that steals the gelfling's essence.

So the bull looking thing is from The movie Kill Bill. With the yellow jumper, a good reference and many more references too.

Immediately puts me in mind of that bird themed one from a few years ago, Blazing Beaks which I thought was alright but there would always be games ahead of it. Only visually though and I'm at the start of the video
Hope this one gets an intro :3 I’m sure you know what I mean, either way though, it was fun watching you play this as I have been anticipating this game as well. Excited for the future updates it’s gonna get while I play what is already out. Which is why I hope you keep playing it, as I love to play beside you ^^
Thanks for reminding me of this, I Kickstartered (or whatever it's called) this and forgot about it. Currently focusing on an axe+trooper build, almost beat level 4 twice. Never thought I'd bring a knife to a gunfight, but here we are! :)

Yay, it's the hilarious Borderlands school of writing. Who needs talent when they can have references instead?
Overall though, it looks really cute and I remember the demo being quite fun back when it was on Steam's demo festival.
If this is the best of the year then we are utterly DOOMED. It needs a lot of work. I wouldn't call this a full game. With this amount of content, it's Early-Access level at best. Definitely not worth its current price tag at this stage, especially if you use Gungeon and Nuclear Throne as a yardstick.
Issues I had with this game:
- Extremely tedious and boring axolotl nurturing system
- Very very grindy
- Sluggish and slow gameplay
- HORRIBLE item design, I could write an essay on how badly the items are designed in this game. In a nutshell "I will buff your stat, at a cost of the game being less fun to play"
- Very little content in terms of those items and guns you can find
- Very bad axolotl customization
- Linear bosses
- Linear stages and biomes
- No extra content or modes after you beat the game
- Special skills literally overshadowed by the starting one which is actually reliable. The rest are literally gimmicks that you get to make your game harder
- Run-ending bugs (sometimes your dodge rolls will lose invincibility, making it impossible to hop over walls of bullets or rays, an item that buffs your damage based on money can bug out and make you do nearly zero damage - effectively ending your run, item that makes your bullets go through walls is fun.. until you run into a boss that spawns moving walls which you have to break to avoid damage.. and guess what happens there etc)
It needs a lot more content, a lot more polish, a lot more of everything. I played the demo, liked it - got the game on day one and was severely underwhelmed by it. The game just doesn't want you to have fun. Oh you wanna buff your damage output? Ok I'm gonna nerf you to the ground for daring to do so. Gonna make you move like a slug, and your guns lose nearly all range, gonna make you take 100 years to reload, gonna make your guns SO innacurate that you can miss a point-blank shot.. with a SHOTGUN.
20 euros is a robbery for the game in this current state. I'd value it at 5 right now. Hopefully they will deliver on their promises and bring more content to justify this price and get it at least close to gungeon and nuclear throne standards. I've played Mobile Games with deeper content and better gameplay than this (Soul Knight), and that one's free.

@@lemeltingpotdetontontaste7087 Yeah, it does 'borrow' the mechanics from EtG.. it's literally like EtG but instead of puns about guns and bullets, it's like a blend between Nuclear throne (in terms of guns) and Blazing Beaks (in terms of enemies and environment).
And personally, I really don't mind if a game 'borrows' concepts from other games, or directly copies them - as long as they introduce something new that builds up on those concepts and enhances the gameplay.
But this one... yeah it didn't bring very much so far.

But when i put the developper's shoes, i can't really accept a plagiat, because the dev are "copyrighting" their engine etc, and peoples rip them or steal them to put a new skin on it and voila, a new game, with no contribution to the original programmer / sound designer / artist etc.

If I were a dev, worked on a game, and then someone literally carbon-copied it, just with different looking sprites/weapons/stages, while it like played EXACTLY the same like mine, had exact same content - just named and masked differently, then yeah - I believe it would warrant a lawsuit.
It's quite a controversial area though.. like what if someone borrows the concept, but makes it completely differently, with different if not greater amount of content, adding more modes, storylines, while only borrowing the core game mechanic to build from.. like - where do we draw the line and say no.. this is plagiarism, you can't do that.
I mean, if there are no boundaries, then whoever created the first racing game with a 3rd person view could literally sue ALL devs who made a racing game, regardless of its theme, physics and settings.
AK-xolotl's gameplay is nearly identical to Gungeon.
The only differences are this abundance of meta-progression resources, being able to only carry one additional weapon (2 with a custom class), linear dungeons, and way less content.
This is why I think they need to work harder on making their game stand out, and if they did - I'd be willing to even forgive straight up copying the gameplay mechanics of the gungeon.

You're right, nobody said that. It's just that your title made it sound like a good game, rather than an at best mediocre imitation of a good game.
There haven’t been any good top down shooter roguelikes this year, so this is the best.

It’s the first run my guy lol. We played for 20 min and you’re upset about gun variety. At least wait like 4 episodes before you complain about the lack of content
Not complaining about content, whether a lack of or plethora of. Just a preference. I’ve never been a fan of the meta progress grind, but I understand others like or even prefer that method.

This is a really fun looking game, but that title is atrocious.
Such a bland rip-off game without replayability, but with grindy metaprogression instead.
"the Best Top Down Shooter Roguelike of the Year", sure buddy. At least Voidigo invented and capitalised on new mechanics. This one, on the other hand, is just bad.

another "roguelike" that has nothing in common with Rogue (1980)... true traditional roguelikes are so different from these games that they really ought not to be labelled under the same genre
