    Vivaldi Four Seasons, (Winter) et Mendelssohn Violin Concerto in E Opus 64 with a cycling video is totally sublime. This was delightful. Brava Maestro Henry et Maestra Ms. Cools. Merci beaucoup.

    Professor Wilde, this is simply superb. I have ridden all those roads, on two wheels but with big horizontally-opposed piston engine. These scenes, viewing in the midst of this damn lockdown, fill me with the urgent need to get OUT and on the road again, pedaling my lugged steel Rivendell through the heights and backroads. The descent from Mariposa to Hornitos is quite special, isn't it? Cheers to Ms. Cools, who brings it all together.

    I once descended Mt Diablo when it was 42 degrees. I almost crashed because I couldn’t squeeze the brakes with frozen hands under a single layer of gloves. Had to stop 3 times to regain feeling and circulation in my fingers. Your adventures are seriously epic and inspirational.

    Nice trip, you two should be grateful for the spectacular cycling you have in N. California. Without a doubt some of the best riding in the country.
    I have a couple of SKF bottom brackets on bikes I ride. I've put a lot of trouble free miles on them which is probably their biggest selling point. Nice BB and durable, but pricey compared to the competition. A mechanic told me they add a little drag compared to other square tapered BBs. Don't know if that's true or not. Happy New Year! Richard

Semi trucks on either side, deep ruts in the snow, etc. Ive been doing it for over 25yrs. I am 62yrs old. I dont do it because I like it, because I dont. It's literally terrifying sometimes. • @wallacedavidg
      @wallacedavidg 5 років тому

      @@Henrywildeberry - We did enjoy some beautiful weather. The wind was very light and the sun was bright. RSR westbound is more enjoyable, eastbound looking at the traffic coming at you just a few feet away is a little unnerving. I understand that segments of the moveable k-rail that separate the bike lane from the traffic weighs 1,000 pounds each.The climb out of Marin eastbound to the first peak is a little over a mile at 3%. It looks formidable but it's just a mental thing.
      I hope they keep the bike lane open. It is listed as temporary and some drivers are asking that it be made into a third car lane. For those that may not know the lane has been closed to traffic since the 80s. The lane held a pipe to deliver water from the East Bay to Marin County for the sever drought.

    That's some good
    411 on the IRD bottom bracket! I've been considering adding a wired tailight to my rando bike and was wondering about the best way to get the wires though the BB. I'm guessing it's a bit lighter too because of the shape.
    I've never been one to name my bikes but if I owned Ms Cools bike I think I would call it the "Floatin' Goat". Those big ol' RTP's seem to eat everything up with a spoon.
    Once again great music. I was listening to my favorite San Francisco band the Flamin Groovies the other night and thinking man, some this stuff would be great in an H. Wildeberry video. Ever hear of 'em?

      Thank you, Phillip! I have to give credit to Boulder Bicycle for explaining why the bottom bracket was concave and the info on the warranty! great video!! great music!!! somehow you went from Berkeley to fresno...then up to and through mariposa...and back to the berkley area? and how do you carry so little stuff?? especially in those temperatures?? i just rode home to Washington DC on New years Eve from my daughters house in philadelphia, and it was wet (well, its usually wet) and cold. i carry two full pannier bags...and hand warmer packets...and i stay in hotels. do you drink a lot of liquor on these tours to keep warm? and how in the world did you do that ride with no fenders? theres a great trail from York PA almost the whole way to baltimore, MD, but its not paved, and it was muddy for the whole 50 miles...if i didnt have fenders id have been covered in mud. anyhow... i'll be in california in february...to ride from San Fran to LA...there is NOW WAY the weather can be worse than the NE USA...but I'll still have my fenders...haha.

      Hello bicycleutopia! We took the amtrak to Fresno and rode through Yosemite and down to Mariposa then Modesto and took the Amtrak back to the bay area from there. We stayed in hotels a couple of nights on the trip. We managed to get by with just an extra layer of clothes, a windbreaker and rain jacket, and two pairs of gloves, one that shielded the wind, each. Overall we stayed pretty warm by not really stopping until we got to our hotels. We only got a little rain and we didn't do any dirt on this tour so I managed ok without my fenders this time but Henrywildeberry was living the fender life dream with his!
      No, we didn't drink any liquor on the tour, just hot coffee in the morning and maybe once more later in the day to keep warm.
      Yes, the weather shouldn't be too cold when you ride here in February but there could be rain so fenders would be good!
      Sounds the weather where are is a little more harsh and frigid than here so I can understand why you need more layers!

      Best wishes to you in the New Year! I'm glad you didn't mind the long format. I wanted to share more of the descending footage, it was just so amazing up there this time of year! Ms. Cools picked all the music, except the first song:)

    Did you actually run into some ice on the roads and how did your tires/bikes handle the ice. Amazing ride. Thanks for sharing.

    • @Henrywildeberry

      Hi Brian, there was a little ice just above the 5200 ft elevation mark. Fortunately, the sections of roads above that elevation were pretty short and the roads had been coated with a layer of sand. The tires handled fine and I unclipped my inside foot from the pedal whenever there was curve or camber in the road. We also timed it to be crossing the passes during the afternoon hours. We took our chances, but we were also willing to turn back if things seemed too risky.

    Nice ride, nice video.why are you riding with 26 inch wheels?

    • @Henrywildeberry
      @Henrywildeberry  5 років тому

      Thank you. Ms. Cools is using the 26-inch wheels because her bike frame can fit a 2.3-inch wide tire on that sized wheel. She wanted to max out the tire size for both comfort and off-road riding. Safe riding!

    I tried riding in the cold. I started to sweat and lose body heat. How do you overcome that?

    • @Henrywildeberry
      @Henrywildeberry  5 років тому

      Head, hands, and feet are the things I think need to be covered the most. While climbing I try and avoid sweating, so I remove layers as I climb to regulate my temperature. On the descent, I layer back what I took off on the climb to keep warm. Fortunately, for us we were only in the snow for a few hours of our ride. All the best.

    So much to like about this - fun and great scenery but it would have been SO much more interesting with just a bit more explanation of some details like what towns you passed through, what roads you took, where you caught the trains - for those of us who might like to replicate the ride.
